How many Inventorians?

As a first year Inventorian, I wondered how many people do inventor on other teams...

We don't touch tools until the bot is fuly designed. That way we come out with a much more manageable bot, and we can test plausiblity of all our crazy ideas before we waste metal. Plus it's better preparation for the real world.

this year, I drew the robot after it was designed and tried to keep ahead of its manufacturing, but ultimately fell behind :( and finished after the robot was done. As I was the only one drawing, it took a looooong time, and I still never really finished :(

On Cyber Blue we are usually cadding up the drive first and as soon as that is done we start building the drive and cadding the rest of the robot. We found this to be the best use of our time.

We, for the first time ever, have about 6 inventor students helping to make the robot. This is very relieving for us since it was taking forever to get things done. I just hope that the students next year continue the Inventor group of 6+ because it helps a lot.

During the past 3 years, we only had 3 CADDers. We won the award with only three of us. This year, we have four people. Mostly because two of us will be leaving and we need to train more people for the program.

There's not too many of them on our team, most of them rarely do Inventor.
But I'm among the few that really spend a lot of time on Inventor, though for me it was mostly for the manipulator.

I'm also a first year Inventorian, I got good training from our officers, and I ended up doing quite a lot of inventorizing during build, which is why I am also Mr. Inventorizer:p

Our Inventor team was 4 Freshman this year. It was tough at the beginning seeing as being rookies we didnt know to much, but we caught up quickly. Even though we didnt finish before the robot. We designed most of the robot at the very beginning. It turned out really well and im proud of what we came up with for our first year.:D

Team 852 uses SolidWorks to model every single part made on the machines (even spacers). By the end of the season we have a working 3D model of the robot to play around with.

Re: How many Inventorians?

I do all the design CADing - by which I mean I draw things that need to be machined. Since I do most of the machining this is logical.

I didin't do very much on the submission this year. We have about 4 people who work on the submission and they did a very good job. Most of the other CADers are animators, who work on the AIA submission after submitting the animation.

We CAD the whole robot before building, but we do a lot of "adjusting" in the machine shop - so what we draw often doesn't resemble what we built.

By the way, where can I view the AIA submissions?

Re: How many Inventorians?

There are actually around 7 or 8 cadders on 1072 but they are very slow and don't have much experience with designing. I, being a rather impatient and fast cadder, would take the parts that they couldn't do well/in time, and ended up doing everything. For one thing, it took too long to finish the cad because I had other obligations and could only work on one thing at a time, and for another, we had a couple of annoying (although fortunately not critical) design flaws because there was no one to look over the cad closely enough to catch errors. Looking back on the season, I realized that (a) the new cadders did not get enough experience and (b) I was completely burnt out after all that cad. We will definitely invest more time into training the new cadders next year.

same is true with us. Really all cad has to be done before a system can be integrated. There was one exception with the drive train this year, where we designed a drive train to allow an omni or 4 wheel drive to accommodate the drivers preference.

my team is decent with inventor, but sometimes they make constraint errors so sometimes i have to lean over their shoulders:)

Too many of the students graduate this year. We may be in trouble next year for our CAD team because the engineers, myself included, are all Pro/E Wildfire users and don't know anything about inventor to get the new students started.

All four of us actually. There are some kids who know something about Inventor though. Spike is taking the CADD class right now (I just so happen to be posting from his computer). Eddie is taking it as well. I know Bigman is pretty good, and we may have someone joining next year who knows what he's doing. Besides, Jake is taking a year off before college so he can come and teach everyone.

It's easy -- just reverse your whole workflow :)

It shouldn't be too hard to make the hop... we jumped to inventor ~1/17 :yikes: with 4 guys (2 students, 2 mentors) and had a decent model to build from.

None of us had seen inventor before kick-off. Keeping everyone headed in the same direction seems more important to success than the software itself.

I'd try an jump in slightly earlier than we did though. :)
