To the three alliances that versed us, you guys put up a tough fight. As such, every team made the competition fun, exciting, and (in the end) nerve racking. Thank you Teams 293 and 203 for being a great alliance.

To those who attended our Team Social, it was fun meeting you all.

All in all, I hope everyone had as much fun as I did. And I look forward to Atlanta!

First of all, congratulations to the "Jersey Alliance" who won (75, 293, 203), as well as to 1727 for winning the Chairman's award. Congrats as well to 1749 for making it to the finals in only their second year with FIRST. And to all BAA teams there, congratulations for doing such a great job.

As for us, Team 007, we had a rather difficult time. Despite not having scored a single point either Friday or Saturday, we still managed to end up in 29th out of 58 teams. We suffered moderate damage to our actuator as well as our drive system in consecutive matches, but somehow, we ended up being the 8th robot in the "Bullpen." Despite our troubles, the 12 members there, as well as our mentors, and those parents who decided to come and support us, all had a great time. This event will be a valuable experience to next year's team, and the years following.

As for me, personally, well, I'll save that for some other time. :þ

We beat the number 1 alliance in the first round, then lost to them in the second match 54-32 because 888 went to far up our ramps, and bumped the wall, and fell back down. And then in heartbreaking format we lost in match 3 in a score of 32-30 because 2199 accidentally lined up wrong and over shot the end of the ramp, thus falling off. If they had made it we would've beaten then 60-32, unfortunately we did, and Overall alliance number 1 was about to win it all. Fast fact - we were the only team to beat 293 all competition, had the closest matches all playoffs with 293 + 75, and ended up jumping from 53rd to 4th.

I would like to thank 888 and 2199 on working so well, and doing so wonderfully with us, and congratulate Spike and his teammates on their victory, and all the other winners of the day.

I'll be honest. I was seriously praying for you guys to win. No offence to the winning alliance, you guys well deserved it. It was just the matter of time, when the winning alliance figure out one thing no one was good at, scoring top row. Even when i realized we were going against them for the finals, i said it to one of the student "We are no match for this alliance, unless we come up with a darn good strategy."

And surprisingly, the very first match featured 4 (four) BAA teams :D (and no, Ms. Jenny had nothing to do with it.)

We had a lot of media at the event this year. We will try to get links on the Chesapeake website within the next week.
The Washington Times got it mostly right!

I disagree on one statement:

Even though you can "qualify" based on Engineering Inspiration Awards, Regional victories/finalists, Rookie awards, and Chairman's; you can go even if you don't "qualify". You just are not on the highest priority.

I would tell the people who wrote the article and Team HAVOC this:

Even though those slots are open for those winners, many winners and such already pre-register for the championship. Unless there's a dog and bone approach going on (get the bone of free championship for winning), there are always lots of spots available after regionals (because of this).

I am still in shock that we won the Chairman's award! This is technically my first year on the team(I was like a team little sister last year), and I had never imagined that we could have won. Now, our team can go to Atlanta(we were wait-listed previously).

In my opinion, the Chesapeake regional was much better than the Trenton regional. The teams seemed more friendly and close to one another, and everyone cheered for each other.

I'm also very proud that many teams from BAA (Baltimore Area Alliance) won numerous awards. The BAA seems to join teams closer together.

Congratulations to all of the teams in the finals, and to the Jersey alliance for winning the Chesapeake Regional!

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional - Discussion

i must say, though. this year, i had prepared alot wednesday night for the regional, and what i anticipated. then, thursday night, i prepared even more (getting about 3 hours sleep each night). every day of the competition was draining.

However, despite that, i enjoyed everything about the competition. the teams, the officials, the students, mentors, parents, everything. Oh, and the robots too. Can't forget the robots. Its true, though, that I didn't mention that the competition was stressful, because, although there were periods of stress, I was able to, thanks to a certain person who I don't think visits these forums, relax and calm down.

True, it's sad that all of our hard work didn't end up exactly how we planned, but this is a valuable learning experience, for all of us. We'll have a strong base of experienced members next year, and for the years to come. Even in the "off season" (for us at least), we'll continue to work on our team, and try to do better next year.

After all, life is what you do outside of FIRST. No wonder it's so short.

Does anyone know if any videos of the regional have been posted? I would love to watch some of the finals again.

They were going to do a FIRSTcast episode. The FIRSTcast people may have videos of Chesapeake.

Our team (1111) tried to get together with them at the local mall to try to socialize, maybe see a movie, and in general just make friends, but due to some problems with their robot, they were unable to come, from what I've gatehred. But hey, there's next year, and from what I've heard, they enjoyed it. And next year we'll do some extra planning ahead, just in case!

Oh you suburban people, ruinin our cities with your little "malls"! :D j/k

If I were in your shoes, I would definitely get into the habit of planning these sorts of things. Not just with the UK teams, but just in general with any team in particular. <Trying to convince 399 single-handedly to go to the South River's Improv show was kind of hard doing it all on Friday during the competition.>
