Detroit Regional

wow, what a day filled with robots...... Theres a lot of defensive bots and there are some good scoring teams as well...33 was looking good with there amazing arm, las gorillas got everything up and together and now there capping, chief delphi was scoring like no other. This is going to be a sweet regional i think, there are so many defensive bots i can see some low scoring matches, how does everyone else feel about it?

Did 469 change from their original end effector? No offense to one of the greatest teams in FIRST but I am surprised if they are scoring with their original design.

Watch out for Team 1941 - Frederick Douglass Hurricanes. At GLR, they were playing some sick defense and they have nice ramps.

Good luck Hurricanes!

-see you on Saturday!:D

We did climb them once, but they were on the opposing side, but hey who cares it just practice. I think tomorrow will be great, today was fun but the real stuff starts tomorrow.:)

The gripper changed. The main problem with the other one was that we had to tilt it to get to the floor, and that the opening was too small, making it hard to center on the ringers.
The new one is simpler, lighter and way more efficient (apparently).
No risk of offending us with your comment. We are always our own fiercest critics anyways and many of us wanted a new gripper from day 1 of GLR.

Francois.

Edit: let's not forget 703 with their huge carbon fiber ramp, or 374 (or is it 394? 397? sorry, i forgot) with their very efficient gripper.

Just got home, wow 247 you guys have the best defensive robot I have seen this year. Your speed and power make you guys really really good, couple that with 123 being able to hang a few and 903 also able to provide some strong defense, you are one of the best alliances I have seen this season.

They are a straight ramp, no hanging tubes. They have a 6WD I believe and have very smart and skilled drivers running it. The speed and power their robot has is incredible. Their ramp system is one robot drives up, the other then gets on the ramp and they lift their ramp to support that team. They are very good and need to be seen to be believed.

I would like to congratulate team 903, who worked hard all weekend. It was great that you stuck with it after not getting selected at Great Lakes. Good luck if you go to Atlanta!

Gratz go out to 247, 123, and 903. I was there for most of the day Saturday and saw some great matches! Also congrats to the team from Mexico 2283 *It was nice to see you guys again after meeting at GM* you did amazing. Hopefully we'll be seeing all ya'll at Atlanta.

Did anyone else see the 2283's video they had playing in their pit? It was pretty sweet.

Also, a shoutout to the Robocubs (just cause I love you guys :D) Sad I probably won't be able to see your bot next year!

I would like to Congratulate all the teams at the Detroit Regional, you all did a great job and did F.I.R.S.T. proud. As a referee it was a great pleasure to meet so many wonderful young adults who present themselves in a very professional manner. Teams 247, 123 and 903 way to go on the win, your list of accomplishments this year is far to lenghty to list here. Team 217 congratulations on back to back Detroit Regional Chairmans awards ( will next year be a three-peat?).

Re: Detroit Regional

Hi ya'll, my name is Fennig and I am aprt of Team 247, Da' Bears. I wanna say wow, this has been a great year for us and for everyone that we have been with. I am a senior and all I can say is this is how I would want my year to end and no other way.

As a team, we have been doing great and the Detroit Regional topped it off.

People asked about our robot, a little more about it, it is not 6WD...it is 4WD with a combination of High (15ft/sec) and Low(8ft/sec) gear. Two omni wheels and two tracion wheels (we acutally went threw 4 pairs throughout the Detroit weekend). Our ramp is at 14 Degrees and raises up to 12 1/2".

I wanna make a shout out to all the teams in Detroit and Pittsburgh. You did a fantastic job and that was some hard competition.

Another shoutout to teams 337 and 903 for the regional wins, as a team we couldnt have done it with out you guys and I am glad we picked you guys up.

A special shout out to team 123. Two regionals in a row in one week. Thank you guys for the pick in Pittsburgh and we are glad that we returned the favor by picking you guys up in Detroit. And to the scouting team from both 123 and us (247), I am glad that I was a part of scouting and glad I did all that I could from running to our matches, and helping out 123 with their matches. This was a great two competitions and I am glad 123 was there with us for both.

I hope to see all of you guys in Nationals again and can't wait for it to come.

Re: Detroit Regional

As Field Manager again at Detroit, I would like to say thanks to everybody for an awesome event. The energy level at the Detroit Regional is unbelievable. After putting four long days into Great Lakes then 2 1/2 days of work you'd think I'd be dragging at Detroit, but the event is so much fun and everybody is so hyped its a total joy.

A couple of big shout outs.

1- The field reset and queing crews, you guys were awesome yet again. Constantly blowing up tubes is a pain but you guys stayed on top of it without any prompting. We had a couple of special situations and a visit from the governor and you guys handled it like pros. A truly fantastic job.

2- Thanks to all the teams, "No Blood before Ten", silly as it seems, cut our injuries to nearly zero. Compared to last year, even compared to Great Lakes the week before this was a phenomenal accomplishment. In addition, the pits were kept clean with hardly a shaving to be found on the floor.

3- Thanks to FIRST for overhauling the scoring system, it operated nearly flawlessly for two weeks in a row. Given the problems I've experienced over the past four years this was a welcome surprise.

Thanks to everyone for a wonderful time.

Cheers to all,

Ben Tower

P.S. We left the "Found" stuff at the Wayne State Matthai Field House facility office, if you're missing something give them a call.

P.P.S. Go Bears

PPPS. I've got thousands of pictures taken from field level. Give me a shout if you want some.

Thanks Ben for the great work at the event. I was there Sat and everything went great and it looked like everyone was having a great time.

Thanks for the note on the "Found" items. The blue jacket was mine. I took the tag off it that morning. It got knocked off the bleacher seat in all the cheering.

I think a lot of people dropped things off those bleachers. At one point Saturday morning I dropped my cell phone off the bleachers...definitely not a good thing. Luckily it managed to just pop out the battery so thank God it didn't break.
