2007 best tube scorers
So, theres a thread about ramps. How about the rest of us? Who is your favorite picker/placer (and no, you can't glorify your own team, as much as we all would like to)
If theres a picture of them, go ahead and post a link, also team # and regional that they attended I'd like to start this with the TechnoKats, team 45 has another solid robot. Saw them at both St. Louis and Boilermaker, hopefully we'll get to go to 'nats and see them again, look forward to seeing them at IRI. |
Re: 2007's best tube picker/placers?
I give major props to Team 100. Their grabber was amazing. It could pick a tube up quicker then any other robot at SVR. They were also very efficient with placing tubes as well...
|
Re: 2007's best tube picker/placers?
To name a few: Sparx 1126 was amazing at FLR. They had a very innovative gripper, and were extremely fast, even with one defensive bot on them at all times.
Obviousley 148 and 217. Hopefully everyone has seen the videos from St. Louis, these guys are offensive monsters. EDIT: Speaking of Offensive monsters, I don't know how I forgot about Simbots, Team 1114, I have seen video of these guys and they are the real deal, they are one of the best teams in FIRST, and deserve tons of recognition even if you haven't seen them. Check out video of these guys in action as soon as it's up And as long as we are on the subject of videos, I hope everyone has seen episode 5 of American Robot. The RhodeWarriors haven't even competed yet, but they are going to be a force to be reckoned with, guaranteed. I'll tell you one thing, as far as guarantees go, team 195, the Cyber Knights were one of the best scorers I saw on the UTC webcast, and I hope they make it to Atlanta again this year. As long as we're talking about UTC and 195, how about their alliance partners! The Uberbots, team 1124, was one of the fastest cappers at UTC. I hope they find a way to Atlanta as well. I'm sure I could list of 25 more teams, but for now, I will leave it at this. Actually, speaking about 25, they were decent too :p ;) |

I also want to say that team 987 did wonderfully at SVR this weekend. |

TOP GROUP
1114-This is by far the best bot I have seen, it loads and scores faster than anyone else, and the drive train is pretty sick as well. 67-Another great hanger, these guys are flying high was again. 1503-These guys are great and they can really score 217-Everyone has already picked them, but they are very good 2ND BEST 469-New claw has them scoring big time now 503-They are a strong scorer and are very sneaky. Re: 2007 best tube picker placers
Yea, that was the highest scoring round of the regional. It was 290-2.
|
Re: 2007 best tube picker placers
330, at least from what i have seen. love it and the WAVE ahahaha. I think the single joint arm is the most simple and best arm design i have seen. the wave claw just adds that touch of the Beach Bots. Not to mention that design won them the pre-ship scrimmage for SCRRF and the Los Angeles Regional. Definitely one of my favorite teams and friends.
|
Re: 2007 best tube picker placers
I would have to say that 25 has an extremely efficient and quick scoring mechanism.. and their 8 wheel drive doesn't help much in pushing them.
Of course, i cant go without saying that team 195 has a great mechanism as well- we worked together fluidly in some of those matches. |
Re: 2007 best tube picker placers
1622, the Spyders, and team 399, the only team to out-ringer us at L.A. in a match (undefended to double teamed, though)
|
Re: 2007 best tube picker placers
From a midwest point of view and leaving my team out, I would say that 111 and 71 have awesome ringer handling capabilities. 111's arm is amazing and 71 is quick to pick up ringers.
|
Re: 2007 best tube picker placers
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned 56 yet, they are competing at NYC as I type, however they are right now the team to beat. They are 8-0 right now and have had the match performance to prove it. In the short time I was at the regional yesterday I saw them score 136 points all by themselves (their alliance partners didn't even show up). They were at FL too, but by what I've seen they look like a real powerhouse right now.
|
Re: 2007 best tube picker placers
Another team I have to give props to is 114. These guys had a great setup and scored very consistently. Apart of that, the other scoring teams that stand out from SVR weer 254, 100, 852, 668, and 987. Congrats to all and good luck in your next regionals.
|
Re: 2007 best tube picker placers
1114 gets another vote from me. Also, 573:http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/img...b9935425_l.jpg
I dont know why it works so well, but it does hold and cap quite well. I'll go with team 65 (huskie brigade) as a good capping robot as well. I'm also a fan of 71's gripper. I think there are a few things that would quickly improve it in small ways, but it does a good job scooping tubes up, and a decent job capping too. |
Re: 2007 best tube picker placers
From the pictures, I noticed that 25's manipulator was very similar to 1746 (Otto), who we were allianced with for the Peachtree finals. They held the ringers from the inside, just like 25....the weak spot in the design, at least 1746's, was that they couldn't always hold on to the ringers when getting knocked around. Still a great design, and one of the top scorers at Peachtree.
EDIT: 1369, who won Peachtree, was also a solid scorer. |
Re: 2007 best tube picker placers
Some of my favorite Tube robots from Boilermaker are:
45 - Technokats (wow....brakes once they get on the lift) Kyle Love, you da man getting on in QM 69 with a robot in your way! video 234 - Cyberblue is so fast and have brakes too once they get on the lift. 868 - TechHounds the fastest tube picker-upper in Indiana, love the gripper then shoots the tube on the spider with self centering. 868 drive team, you guys have the best attitude of students I've ever met so far. Keep up the great work. |
Re: 2007 best tube picker placers
Did anyone else have/see any lists of average ringers scored per round? At Peachtree, 1533 (Triple Strange) had a very nice data table showing all the scoring bots and their average number of ringers per round. If I remember correctly, 1261 had an average of 4.0, 1369 had an average of 3.8, and 1746 had an average of 3.6.
|
Re: 2007 best tube picker placers
Does anyone else have a rotating base (base of their arm)? 537 has attending one regional and we were the only ones their that could rotate our arm 360 (its actually more like 450 total). It was a great asset while we were being defended by other teams.
Here is some inventor models and pictures: http://team537.com/inventor.php http://team537.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=23 |
Re: 2007 best tube picker placers
CyberBlue's arm rotates about 30º in either direction.
|
Re: 2007 best tube picker placers
Yes, the CircuitRunners (1002) had a chain-driven rotating arm...I'm not sure about their range of motion, though.
|
Re: 2007 best tube picker placers
I'm going to have to say Team 75 and Team 25 [based off of the NJ Regional] and team 56 and 375 are doing pretty well 2with their's at the NYC Regional. I may add another one or two after Long Island  So for now, my favorite are (in no order) 75, 25, 56, 375

Re: 2007 best tube picker placers
I've only seen UTC, but 195 or 1124 would have been my first choices. (I was actually thinking this when alliance selections started, so I was very proud of myself when they won.) 236 was looking very good from what I saw of them. I also really like 716.
If you happen to have been at UTC, you may note that these are all robots that were on the practice field a few times. This has nothing to do with the fact that I spent my entire weekend there (until after the quarter finals), so I didn't see that much of any robots that weren't there very often/ever. I swear. |
Re: 2007 best tube picker placers
Team 330 and 1622, already mentioned, are amazing.
I also like the twins, (968 and 254) but no offense to 254, I think 968's driver is a bit better. Still they have a great robot. |

Eighteen solely ramp bots at SVR? I'm sure there's some defensive robots in there and some that could do both. But either way, that's a lot of ramp bots.

Re: 2007 best tube picker placers
I would say that 1736 Robot Casserole was far and away the best tube scoring bot at Wisconsin.

At the 2007 Florida Regional, in my opinion, the best arm robots were
(in no particular order): team 179: swampthing team 1523: mars team 233: pink team 1902: exploding bacon team 56: team 1270: red dragons team 1251: tech tigers team 70: krunch team 180: S.P.A.M. (had to throw my own team in there..haha..mainly because we scored 3-4 ringers, and most of the time they were on the back of the rack for strategy purposes) There are probably a couple more that i just can't think of too. |

just a little note from the first note what you are saying about our manipulator is a little off, with our manipulator, if we got the tube on,that sucker is not coming off, we actually had trouble one match cause the match ended with a tube on our manipulator, and it took me and a ref a good bit of force to pull it off most of our problems with dropping the tubes was us getting knocked around while attempting to pick them up and we wouldn't grab it right but our manipulator did work well for us and we were very happy with it And thanks again for all the help, you guys were great alliance partners, hopefully we will get to work with you again. as for the second yes i saw it it was pretty nice of them, i think the strategy guys on my team believed it was not fully accurate, but it did give a nice overall view of things |
Re: 2007 best tube scorers
I would have to agree that I think triple strange had the data a little off but it still helped. For instance for a period of 4 or 5 matches we were putting up 5 ringers per match and one match we put up 6. The least we put up was 3 in a match so I think the data is a little low at least for us. I'm sure there are some discrepancies for most teams. Also they did not take into account the practice matches which I'm sure was their decision but it can show what a team is capable of with minimal defense. I know we put up 6 and 7 ringers each round in practice. Overall though it was very gracious to hand out that data that they worked on.

Re: 2007 best tube scorers
648 is definitely a force to reckon with. Their auton is impressive and their crab steer is extremely effective! I would partner with them anytime!

Team 45 scored very well and also was very fast.

Re: 2007 best tube scorers
i was very pleased to see 121 up there even though we have not competed.
I hope we can please at boston this weekend =D As for what ive seen at UTC... 1124, 195, 25 were best of show *when 195 wasnt broke ;) but they fixed it up and did an amazing job winning the regional w/ 1124... |

Re: 2007 best tube scorers
i would say that out of all the teams that were at the st. louis regional, the best scores i saw were 148 and 1444. these were two of the most changing opponets i've ever seen.

Re: 2007 best tube scorers
Some more tube scoring robots to mention from MWR are 107 and 1710. I liked both robots a lot, and 107 had gigantic ramps to climb up.
|
Re: 2007 best tube scorers
1369 is a dynamyte robot, but I havn't seen it at a competition.
From Florida I liked 179 1523 79 52 And I havn't watched much of the other regionals so I can't make a very good statement about any bots not at Florida |
Re: 2007 best tube scorers
heres my list, i havent seen every team but from what i have seen:
(not in any order) 1114 67 573 65 469 648 111 107 494 1503 217 148 45 75 25 123 302 thats all i can think of right now |
Re: 2007 best tube scorers
i think that there are two important factors when considering good arm bots. And those are; How quickly can they pick up and score undefended, and how well they pick up and score when they ARE defended.
Considering these two things I'm going to throw in vote for teams 148, 237 (TRIBE), 195 (cyber knights), and 1124 (uberbots). These bots score well while being defended and undefended. If i was just thinking about robots who do well undefended I would say team 25 is the best i've seen. In the matches in which they were being defended, they only put up 1 or 2 per match. Good luck for the rest of the season everyone! |
Re: 2007 best tube scorers
I wanted to put emphasis on team 302. They were hands down the best scorer at Detroit closely followed by 469. 302 was the only team there that I saw in three different rounds instead making the 8 in a row only do seven and go to the ramp. Those two made an awesome alliance. If only they could have beaten Da' Bears defense....

Re: 2007 best tube scorers
At Arizona, 39 and 1726 were far above any of the other tube scorers at the Regional, each putting up 7 in one of their matches. 39 could consistently score keepers and hung well even under defense. They were #1 seed the whole Regional and winners for a reason.
842 also was a good scorer, putting up 3 to 5 a match even though they were limited to the bottom row. 842 and 1726 both had damage to their manipulators by elimintations though, and didn't fair as well as they could have because of it (yes, they were still Finalists, but I think they could have given 39-60-1013 even tougher matches if their claws had been fully working). On webcast, 1124 was by and far the best scorer I saw. For them it looked like a robot playing defense simply meant a tube took 1 second longer to score. 111, 40, 190, and 1902 all had good machines as well. |
Re: 2007 best tube scorers
At Boilermaker, 45 was awesome. They were fast and accurate.
I also like 573, they were efficient and the only team that I noticed who successfully picked up and scored a deflated ringer.:) |
Re: 2007 best tube scorers
I remember that, good times. Well I think its all but obvious, nothing escapes that gripper!
|
Re: 2007 best tube scorers
540 is a very reliable scorer. The omni wheels let them school all the other non-omni wheel robots. There scorer was awesome.
|
Re: 2007 best tube scorers
Thanks for saying we are a good at placing ringers, it was one our goals, and I think we achieved it. There were other good teams such as 45, 573, 868, and 234. Best of luck to everybody in Nationals. The Boilermaker Regional was very tough, and congrats to everybody who competed.
|

Re: 2007 best tube scorers
Team 56 is THE fastest scorer I've seen this year. I only wish they'd be more productive while being defended, and that they could find it within themselves to climb ramps. I've been wondering why they don't dance circles around the defense with their low, fast, and agile machine.. is the drivetrain sub-par?
Team 1114, after watching the GLR video, is a little bit slower (at putting up the tubes) than 56, but their drivetrain is rock solid, and I look forward to watching them again in Waterloo to see how they handle defense. Their low(er) ground clearance makes it a bit of an issue for them to climb ramps, but if they are smart, they'll learn to pull away and use their own set of amazing ramps to get it done for their alliance.. or send their partners back for 30 points. Team 148 is also amazing. They are tied right now with 217, in my mind, for coming up with the fastest scoring roller claws. While they do roll the tubes in, they can simply yank the tubes from their grasp and onto the rack using a pneumatic wrist motion (148), or by pushing down on their arm (217). 217 was very smart with their roller claw design, only picking up 50-70% of the tube, making for a quick release. Both robots are adept at climbing ramps. If only 217 responded better while being hounded by defense. 175 is good. They (only) put up 4-5 tubes per match, but their drivers have a lock on this game: they know how to play on the field. This agile machine is much like 56 in speed, and maneuverability, so it takes smarts, rather than muscles to make it around the defense. This isn't a bad thing, because spinning circles, a team can put up 2-3 with defense. Using brute force, maybe a team can get 1 or 2. They have ramp climbing ability, and the drivers haven't been afraid to use it. 67, another team with a roller claw. I watched them in the finals with 1114, and saw a great display of team work during autonomous, and during the match. I watched their qualification rounds, and saw that they are fully aware of what they are doing. Their roller claw is doing a great job for them, but so are their drivers. They are learning how to play the(ir) game. Its only a matter of time. They have a tremendous amount of raw skill, and scoring power. Perhaps they'll have to out run the defense in the future, the drivetrain doesn't seem ready to help them force their way into scoring position. 121 is on deck! They'll be making an appearance tommorow at the Boston regional. Their robot is solid, once again, this year, and they've gone with the roller gripper design, a very promising choice. It looks like their drivetrain is at a medium between pushing ability and speed, so it will be interesting how they perform under the pressures of defense. I saw the American Robot video of their drivers practicing, and it looks like they still have a bit of work to do as far as getting the operation of their robot down to a science. But as soon as the drivers come up to speed, this robot will be worlds ahead of the competition at Boston. We may finally see the 121+173 alliance! Or perhaps it will be 121+69........ 100. I haven't seen them in action yet, but I'm curious how well they deliver. I've seen pictures of their roller claw design, and it looked good. I'm sure they are everything they are being made out to be. a few others I've seen: 45 233 254/968 375 365 469 1124 1369/1902 1730 |
Re: 2007 best tube scorers
Going with teams that I've played against, 75 sticks out first in my mind. They were just fast
|
Re: 2007 best tube scorers
I would have to nominate 1038 at being a good offensive robot. One of the main reasons for this was it could score on the top row of the rack during autonomous, which was something that not many teams can do currently. They were fast and accurate when scoring and could play so descent defense when needed in order to get to the rack.

Re: 2007 best tube scorers
Just read through the whole thread. I am going to go a little off-topic then I will get back on the topic. It gets annoying when you see people post back and forth in a thread challenging one another to come to certain regional and compete. It's okay to have pride, but let us stay on the topic. I may be guilty of this also, but I try to stay away from it. Take it to PMs or IMs if you are going to derail a topic.
Now, back to topic... this is the year when I have seen the most competitive robots ever in FIRST. My view on the game totally changed today, when I watched the Boston and Waterloo elimination rounds. Here are some teams that I think scores the best out there. 1) 148 2) 1114 3) 1626 4) 2056 5) 217 6) 175 7) 79 8) 1902 9) 25 10) 233 11) 111 12) 1251 13) 854 14) 330 15) 121 ... I won't be surprised if I see some of these teams on Einstein in three weeks. Also, keep in mind, I didn't see every single robot in the nation. I may have missed a very good scorer out there. |

Re: 2007 best tube scorers
When left alone 56, 121, 237, 1369, and 1902 are lethal, but each suffers greatly when defense enters the picture. 1114 is, by far, the most dangerous tube scoring team when defended. It has taken mechanical or electrical failures (or a tube to the flag) to hold them up, and even when that happens, they can still deploy their ramp. 25, 148, 343, and 1251 can each scored through defense pretty well also.
|
Re: 2007 best tube scorers
I'd add 114 and 254 to the list of teams that can score while under heavy defense, and 100 to the list that struggles. Because of their slightlty tip-prone drive train, they have an aissue with defense. The poofs, and Eagle Strike (114) can both score under pretty heavy defense.
|
Re: 2007 best tube scorers
Quote:
Anyways, I am very very impressed with 1114's robot this year. The design is extremely unique and effective, and they put ringers on like mad, even with heavy defense on them. I was amazed while watching TBA archives of Waterloo at how many ringers they managed to put on both the middle and bottom levels, and they would still come back to deploy their ramp. Can they score on the top level though? I see the four bar being used for the middle, bottom as well as ground, but do they have a way of reaching the top? I never saw them attempt to in the matches I saw of them. Also, their autonomous, very consistent. Great job 1114! |
Re: 2007 best tube scorers
Anyone have the statistics on the best scorers at GLR?
|
Re: 2007 best tube scorers
We all know how good 1114 is, but two other teams caught my eye this weekend at Waterloo; 2056 and 854.
2056: think of 1902's bot in the 4' limit, their 4 bar linkage is beautiful and can easily put up 6-7 ringers in a match. These guys are the best rookies I have seen since 1503, its no coincidence they come from the Niagara FIRST family. Their only weakness is that they can get bullied, but their drivers are no rookies (having past experience in off-season events). 854: Their omni system is fluid and the drivers use it to its fullest abilities (which is rare for omni systems). The have a great pickup position which makes it easy for them to pick up, they have a great scoring motion on their arm, and a great release point. Then on top of that they have great ramps that are easy to get up on. Watch out for these two bots at GTR they are going to put on a show with the rest of the great scorers. |
Re: 2007 best tube scorers
1626 when left alone was quite impressive at boston
121 obviously we know these folks know how to build a bot 126 did an amazing job of picking up tubes...they were "wicked fast" I'd say these 3 were the best scorers at boston |

Re: 2007 best tube scorers
i would have to say 1038 not only because of their great auton with that top row but also because they averaged 5 tubes a match according to our data!! that is 1 and a half tubes ahead of us at the same competition!!(we were the second tube scorer by the data)

Re: 2007 best tube scorers
The best scoring robot that i've not only seen and played against in 2 regionals is team 330, the beach bots. They almost manage to score 8 ringers on every match. They are the best and no team has really been able to stop them defensively. They have also won 2 regionals this year, Los Angeles and San Diego. How many other teams can say that? They have also won it almost single handedly. My team, 1266 Devil DUckies, only lost to any alliance with the beach bots. Even when we defended them, which we did very affectively, we still had to deploy our ramps with 30 seconds left which gave them time to score 6 ringers and deploy their own ramps. They are just amazing.

Re: 2007 best tube scorers
I have been watching a lot of robots recently and I must say that 1114, 67, and 968/254 really impress me. I was talking to my co-pilot and we love the challenge of playing against great teams. It really brings out the best in you and it can sometimes surprise you to see what you are capable of doing. I would really love to play with and more importantly face off against these teams in Atlanta! Good luck to everyone and we'll see you in 2 weeks at the big show.

Re: 2007 best tube scorers
There were quite a few teams that effectively scored in San Diego. I especially enjoyed watching 368, 1622, 1540, 1425, and 968 play.

I'm aware of that, but I am primarily talking about in qualifying matches where you don't know who you are allied with and you have to work with whatever you've got. :) |
Re: 2007 best tube scorers
Thanks for the recognition Eric, we did get our arm working in the end and were able to place about 3 a minute while defended we maxed out at 4 in one match before we had to return with about 35 seconds left we could prolly do 5 or 6 if we stayed out the whole time...
But your robot, 330, was absolutely amazing. Your drivers were beyond impressive and scoring seemed second nature to your team. Thanks for an exciting and tough finals, I'm sure you guys will show Atlanta how a robot is supposed to score rings - great job guys. Also 968/254, 368, 1388, 1622, and 1425 proved to also be very proficient at scoring too. |
