Songs during the Awards Ceremony

Does anyone know the songs that are played during the Closing Awards Ceremony?

Example:

Chairmans Award
Winners

I'm pretty sure it varies from regional to regional. I think that they were playing "My Immortal" by Evanescense at GLR for the Rookie All Star (or some similar slow song), but normally they play "All Star". I don't think there's a set playlist...

I only recognized 'Starry Eyed Surprise' by Paul Oakenfold. That's probably the only song that didn't make me cringe a little :P

The same songs played at both of the regionals that my team attended, and I'm pretty sure that there was a different DJ for both. I'm guessing that FIRST already organized a playlist. Most of the songs for the matches were cool, although they played 'Sandstorm' at least 30 times :X

I couldn't imagine any team running up to the arena to pick up an award while 'My Immortal' is playing in the background ;X

I do not really remember exactly which songs were played for certain awards. But I did notice that the same songs were played for the same awards between the Los Angeles Regional and the San Diego Regional.

The Chairmans Award song is We're At The Top of the World by The Juliana Theory.

Mr. Roboto by Styx is used often; not sure which award it's used for though.

I remember hearing Breaking Free from High School Musical.. I know it was used for the Finalists in Boston, I don't remember what it was used for at Boilermaker, but it was definitely there. I know that there was a song from High School Musical at Granite State also, but I don't know what song it was or what award it was for.

Sorry, I only notice random Disney kids music

One thing I noticed is that they weren't playing "My Hero" for the WFA winners this year and any of the 3 regionals I've attended. Does anyone know why? I wish they'd bring it back.

Re: Songs during the Awards Ceremony

The 3 regionals I attended (NJ, UTC, Boston), were all run by Sargent Productions (Also did kickoff), and they were the one's doing music during the awards, not a DJ, so they played the same songs at every one of them.

Ironically, the song from High School Musical, "Breaking Free," was played during the regional finalists. Its lyrics include, "There’s not a star in heaven / That we can’t reach," yet the finalists didn't quite reach the Regional Champion Star. Of course, this is similar to how they play "We are the Champions," following the finals which includes, "No time for losers / Because we are the champions..."

The Awards music changed this year, and I have been to 3 regionals so far, and I believe the same songs have been used for the awards at all 3.

At both LA and San Diego, they played Avril Lavigne - Keep Holding On. I don't recal what awards it was for. I don't think she's a good singer, but the lyrics are very applicable to FIRST and this game.

That song was for Rookie Inspiration if I'm remembering this correctly (which doesn't happen as frequently as I'd like!)

It is nice that the music changes, I recall the looped clip of Tina Turner's "The Best" that they used to play during awards got old real quick.

Although someday, I would love to hear them play "Everyday Superhero" by Smash Mouth for the Woodie Flowers Award or Volunteer of the year award. Nudge Nudge ;) ;)

Who does that song where the lyrics just seem to repeat "I feel happy" over and over again. I can't seem to find it online.

Re: Songs during the Awards Ceremony

The songs have bbeen the same for the past 4 events I've been at -- they're picked to coincide with the award being given out.

One song not listed yet is Brian Wilson - Let It Shine.

Is There Any Way Someone Can Make a List of All The Songs Played During the Awards?

DUCKIE 01-04-2007 11:10

Re: Songs during the Awards Ceremony

I believe the "Feel Happy" song is actually titled "I Feel Happy".

iTunes has two versions of it and although the lyrics are correct for both, the one by the Super Preachers sounds like the one they use.

I can't remember which awards these songs were used for, but La La by Ashlee Simpson and Hold You High by Smash Mouth were also two of the songs used during every award ceremony this year.

Re: Songs during the Awards Ceremony

After the awards, they usually play "We are the champions" by Queen. I don't keep up to date with modern music, so it's always kinda interesting hearing what they play at the competitions. I've bought a couple of songs I've heard them play-

"Final Countdown" by Europe
"Funkytown" by Lipps Inc
"Play that Funky Music" by Wild Cherry
"I love Rock and Roll" (I'm not sure which version they played, but I got the one by the Blackhearts)
"Y.M.C.A" by the Village People
"We Will Rock You" by Queen
"Sirius" by the Alan Parsons Project (they usually play this before the first match)
"Zoot Suit Riot" by Cherry Poppin Daddies
"Brick House" by the Commodores

You guys remember any others they play?

Re: Songs during the Awards Ceremony

I know that they played "Ride The Lightning" by Metallica at the Davis Regional for quite a few matches on Friday and Saturday.

At SVR, they even played "Closer" by NIN. I was lolling at that song, mainly because some of the lyrics are: "I wanna F*** you like an animal, I want to feel you from the inside", and we were at a FIRST event of all places =/

Re: Songs during the Awards Ceremony

To my knowledge, during matches, the DJ just plays from a list that FIRST provides. Along with that, what ever he or she feels like playing at the time. During the award ceremony there is a master CD that is used that goes with every award. Each award has a set song. If you attend a diffrent regional and they play diffrent songs, its because the production company that is used is not the same. For example, the NYC regional, when they swtiched to the Javits Center, they used a diffrent production company, they played diffrent music. This is what i was told along with years of announcing. hanging out with the crew :D

Re: Songs during the Awards Ceremony

FIRST has a recommended music list that DJ's can be go by, along with that FIRST allows DJ the freedom to play what ever they wish under the circumstance that the songs the DJ chooses are Clean Edited versions or Explicitive Deleted versions. As for the songs for the awards ceremony, those songs are pre-set to the awards announced which are on a CD however the DJ at the NYC Regional seem to do his own thing with the CD along with the additional audience clapping effects which was really annoying.
