Explain KK please.

What is FIRST's (everybody that participates in a usFIRST event) obsession with Krispy Kreme? Krispy Kreme is overated.

Can somebody explain????

I think it has something to do with this guy

(KK are really good anyway too. I try to avoid them, because I know I'll end up eating too many)

They're tasty, they fill you up, and they're something nearly everyone can agree on (EddieMcD notwithstanding).

[plug=shameless]It should be noted that one regional I'm near and dear to has distributed the delicacies themselves for two years running now. ;)[/plug]

I really don't like them. They are all air.

Because I'm on a Tae Kwon Do tournament performance diet, I get to do a 2 hour intensive workout for every donut I eat. So I don't have any. Right now I'm working on not drinking soda. We'll see how that runs.

:p

As previously stated, I can't stand Krispy Kremes (they just don't taste good, period). Luckily, I'm from New England, home to Dunkin' Donuts, the obviously superior brand of doughnuts. :D

Seriously, look at the sweetener. If it's High Fructose Corn Syrup, just cut said soda out of your diet. There are plenty of good sodas that use other sweeteners. I completely removed High Fructose Corn Syrup and MSG from my diet about 5 months ago, and I've since lost a few pounds (nothing spectacular, but it's better than gaining) and I feel much better overall. I'm also currently shifting over to a more natural diet.

Back on topic, Dunkin Donuts > Krispy Kreme.

Actually, I wondered the same thing, until finally I decided to stop being lazy and do some research.
Apparently, Dave Lavery loves Krispy Kreme donuts, and anything one of the Big Three (Dean, Dave, Woodie) loves becomes a FIRST obsession (ex: Segways).

Everything will be explained after reading the following post:
http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...5&postcount=28

Now, if you'll excuse me, I am very hungry from all of this donut research and need some cookies.

[EDIT/]I have only gone to Krispy Kreme once, and didn't like it. Their donuts are small and expensive. Where I live there is a local donut shop line called Manley's Donuts, with donuts that are big and moist. My favorite: Apple Fritter :] [EDIT]

Re: Explain KK please.

Guys,
There's a trick to finding a good Krispy Kreme, it's going to an actual Krispy Kreme store and waiting for the "HOT" sign to light up. They're only good if they're hot. My personal opinion is that donuts are only good if they're fresh, but Krispy Kremes are only good if they're Hot as well. We have Older Krispy Kremes at our grocery stores in town, but they don't compare to the ones from the actual store when they're HOT. Plus, if you're lucky you can get one for free (per store policy) which is really nice!

Cut out the corn syrup, you'll save money on gas in the long run if enough people do. :)

I don't drink pop often, mostly water or apple juice. As for KK, only if they are fresh and my room mates buy them, then maybe one (or two, or three).

I used to like Krispy Kreme but we can only get it from Walmart up here. I had my first Dunkin' Donuts experience last weekend though and I must say...DD takes it over KK

I know you RIGHT! :D
I've been trying to figure out the KK thing since coming south back in '89.
They ain't all that. Would much rather go to DD (Dunkin Donuts) or TH (Tim Hurton's) anyday of the week and twice on Sunday.

Ahh, Tim Hortons. Best coffee I've ever had, my dad actually got a Tim Horton's coffee machine (yes, a real one, just like the ones at Timmy's) just to get that delicious flavor while in the southern US. Admittedly, its not as good as the coffee actually from a real Tim Horton's (especially when we run out of actual Tim Hortons coffee to use in it) but its a heck of a lot better than a lot of the swill around here that masquerades as coffee. Never tried their doughnuts though....

ICK! Coffee is the essence of many bad things. Seriously, why call coffee "black" when it's really more brown? I can think of one other brown thing that smells as bad as coffee...

Mmm. reflecting on my FIRST doughnut experiences make me smile. haha

Krispy Kreme - good when fresh on your way to LA Reg.
DD- good on your way to UTC Reg
TimH's - good on your way to GTR
:D

but in my opinion, i think i'd go for Tim Horton's doughnuts just because they have good ice caps and soft doughnuts. (and i blame team 188 to getting me into them! ;P )

I think all doughnuts are good. One of my favorites is Shoppers brand colossal doughnuts...mostly because they're really big

On a side note,

Powdered doughnuts are really good with maple syrup...don't ask how I found out

two and a half words...

"icing water-fall"

where else can you get glazed doughnuts that have been run THROUGH the icing waterfall?

nowhere but KK's (I am going to Chicago in may, I'm gonna get my fix!)

Yeah, I saw that on a Discovery Channel special about food factories (I still say the inside of a Twinkie is made from the residue of the Roswell Crash, but that's another debate entirely :p). And the first thought in my head upon seeing said icingfall was "ew".

Though for some strange reason, I'm now tempted to try that powdered donut and maple syrup combo (using natural syrup, of course)...

Here's my rule of thumb: if the Krispy Kreme glazed aren't hot (reheats do not count), go for Dunkin Donuts.

Krispy Kreme is a southern thing. In the humble opinion of this displaced Southerner (south Florida really isn't in the South), a stale KK is better than any fresh DD.

I dunno, I thik they're both good. And, as EddieMcD says, BAD for you, in a serious way. Not to worry when you're under 20, but kinda serious at twice that - assuming you want to live to twice that.

Krispy Kreme Vs. Dunkin Donuts is possibly the single greatest rivalry running (greater than Coke Vs. Pepsi or Packers Vs. Bears). Luckily I don't have to deal with it out here; all the Krispy Kremes packed up and left Arizona, so we've only got one donut shop around these parts.

What about Mac vs PC? West vs East coast rap? Chocolate vs Penut butter? Google vs Yahoo? Nintendo vs Sega?

KK was mismanaged like crazy, I'm surprised they're even still around.

Krispy Kreme shops are starting to close in LA too. The only one i used to go to closed recently.

This is for people who went to NASA/VCU Regional.

Did you see the guy running away with 6 boxes of KK, and cops chasing him? Yes that was not me.......but just trying to highlight the passion here.

I bet a lot of VCUers will agree with me......the BEST part about VCU social was 632 12 dozen boxes of KK.
As far for KK vs DD...... I dont like to discriminate about food.....its all GooooOOooOooOOooD

Love KK's, but I found a good way of suppressing my appetite. Just visit their web site & ponder the nutritional information.....

http://www.krispykreme.com/doughnuts.pdf

Original Glazed: 200 Calories, 12 fat grams (7 grams being saturated/trans)
Glazed, Kreme Filled: 340 Calories, 20 fat grams (11 grams saturated/trans)

These little sweeties are a precursor to Angioplasty!!! :yikes:

I don't know wether to be suprised or worried that Dave hasn't posted anything in this thread
Probably both

Then again, maybe he's working on writing a 5-page post explaining why KKs are the best. That actually wouldn't be that suprising.

The one in Rochester is one that gives them out. The getting one FREE is the best part of a Krispy Kreme. Watch those donuts go through that icing fall, then saunter over to the counter where they hand you one that is truly HOT FRESH NOW. It's a tourist stop here in Rochester, like visiting Wegman's grocery stores. We took our German foreign exchange student to a KK "factory" her first weekend in America and its a good thing its a whole 15 minutes away from us or she'd have us take her there every day.
