It's teensy, but between being able to tell what match it is and see the seconds left, I'll take it.

Yeah, it has too much dead space as it stands.
They could use the whole bottom half of the bar and get rid of the status bar. it would look so much nicer, and they could make the numbers actually clear to read.

The numbers don't go all the way to the edges due to what is called "Title Safe" zones. On analog video equipment, some of the edge of the picture is always lost, usually on the receiving end (aka your TV). So you keep stuff that needs to be read in the middle so none of it gets cut off.

That isn't as big of a problem with digital things.

I do understand that, I've dealt with that stuff before (Yay media production club), however I still think it is grossly overdone.
