As much as that prediction sounds great (I have them in my FF Championship), I think 79 deserves CA the most. However, 365 and 217 will be right there with them in the end.

How cool would it be to have Paul Copioli win WFA, then the next year win the whole she-bang, and the third year win the CA? That would be truly amazing. I'm talking about 217, the ThunderChickens, if anyone was wondering.

Copioli was the 2005 WFA recipient, right?

Yes, he was.

It seems like every year it gets tougher and tougher to guess who will win the big one. My top picks are:

79, 842, 217, 71 and 234 as a underdog

That's all I could think of off the top of my head. I've never actually had the pleasure of reading their chairman's submission :)

However, that's not to undermine the creativity and success of every other deserving team out there: CyberBlue's international cooperation program, Miss Daisy's Team-in-a-box, 66 bringing younger students to competitions, and so many more.

And yes, my call might just be slightly biased. :D

_Alex

I think that every team does about all of those
I believe it comes down to the partenerships that the team has made over the years
That is just my personal opinion
I believe everyone has a fair shot

I agree with that one.
365 is on top of my list as well.

Send me an IM sometime, I can help (check my profile.)

As for general comments. Be prepared. Know people who've been through the program, your sponsors and how much they donate, how much money goes into various aspects of your robot and th program, know your main points (I follow the 3 pattern of 3 main points with minor points below it), and know FIRST enough to be on your toes.

Oh, and don't sweat, you'll do great! :D

I might be wrong here, but I don't believe 180 won chairman's this year?

On topic, I've had the privilege of talking to the 365 and 384 chairman's teams, and both blew me away. MOE is certainly due for credit, but if 612 could beat 384 and 1002 (among others) for the VCU chairman's, they certainly will be a large presence in Atlanta. Also 79 and 236, though I do not know the extent of their programs, must be doing something right to have 5 regional chairman's wins apiece.

The caliber of teams like these competing for the Championship Chairman's, and the fact that they have not won yet, really puts the magnitude of this award in perspective. Good luck to all!

The format in Atlanta is the same as the Regionals, except that you will probably have judges who have done Chairman's interviews for several years and will have a wide breadth of experience in evaluating teams. Your regional may have had one very experienced Chairmans judge and others newer to the process.

Know your material, relax, and be honest in all you say.

I hope that 236 wins Chairman's. It would be a huge relief to all teams in New England.

Ok......well lets put aside the that I'm part of 612 aside for a while....

I've been a judge assistant over the course of last year and I've also worked with the judges to get them know the teams and FIRST as a whole.

DISCLAIMER!!!: I've been a robot inspector to every event 612 has attended.

Judges don't look for how many times a team has won a chairmans. Infact half of them don't even know about it. They look at which team embodies FIRST and its message the most.
And heres my personal opinion about this. On a regional level, I think submissions/essay means the most and interviews are just to make an impression. But at Naitonal level, Interviews count heavily as judges are looking for how well you can represent FIRST and your team to the outside world.
As for this year, there are previous winners, five time winners, first time winners, and some well noted Honorable Mentions on the list. Good Luck Teams!!

Re: 2007 Championship Chairmans Award!!!

Yeah, Imad, thank you again for comforting us before our interview at VCU, that really helped us calm our nerves a ton.

But really, can one person who is just a bystander say, this team desrves it over all the other teams? Call me rash, but very few of us know everything about most of those teams up there. And to whoever does, I want in on it lol. I need some ideas of new stuff to do.
So to the teams that haven't been mentioned, don't worry, I remembered I was scared freshman-junior year when we weren't mentioned in these threads, im not saying these threads are bad in anyway, but just do your best and remember it isn't about the award, something Jeremy Roberts has been preaching to me since I was a small embryo.

Now after that little talk...
Sadly we wont be a part of this elite group this year, but we aren't really bummed out all because we got our friends 612 and 1311 to root for!
Watch out for 1311, they have taken an interesting approach to this thing. Very few people have heard of them before, but watch out.
And 612, those guys have SO MUCH STUFF that they have done. I was literally blown away (I fell over) when I heard some of the stuff they do.
However, when I think of teams that I myself look up to and try to get my team to somewhat feed off of, I think of 842 and 365. However, can you deny the BEAST? Those guys have spawned so many alumni that are doing so many great things and are a solidly built program.
So in short, there are simply too many good teams for my small brain to pick a clear cut winner. I am going to leave this to the one i beleive is a guru, lil lavery lol. Good luck to all.

Regionally? Perhaps. Championship level? HELL NO. These people are the same year to year (usually), they know. As they say when presenting the award, the Championship Chairmans is about SUSTAINED excellence, not just a one year win that manages to excite the judges. As Wayne said, to suggest that a one year win could win Championship chairmans defeats the whole point of the award.

Again, 365. 79, 236, and 612 as honorable mentions.

AMEND NOTE: This is what I see as happening, so don't make any bets on it, I tend to be wrong, just listen to the podcast. ;)

Joe, but you also have to look at the wording in the MANUAL this year. ;)

5.4.3Submission Information
The criteria for the 2007 Chairman's Award are essentially identical to those in 2006, with special emphasis on recent accomplishments in both the 2006/2007-year and the preceding two years. The judges focus on teams’ activities over a sustained period, as distinguished from just the six-week design-and-build time frame.
The FIRST Robotics Competition is not about machines; it is about the experience of people working together toward a shared goal. Documenting and preserving your team’s FIRST experience becomes an important component of the over-all FIRST experience.
As in the past, teams may only submit at one Regional competition for judging. Teams submitting for both the Chairman’s Award and the Woodie Flowers Award should note that both awards are judged at the same event. Students working on the Woodie Flowers Award submission and those team members working on the Chairman’s Award submission should coordinate to select the best event for the team.
5.4.3.1Submission Content
The Chairman’s Award is presented to the team judged to have created the best partnership effort among team participants and which best exemplified the true meaning of FIRST through measurable impact on its participants, school, and community at large. There is no single “best way” for a team to win the Chairman’s Award. Many factors come into play. The
primary factors the judges will evaluate are:
1) How strongly does the submission document the impact FIRST has on the learning experience of the students, school curriculum, engineers, and/or community during the 2006/2007 team year as well as in prior years?
2) Has the team explained/demonstrated why/how it should be a role model for other FIRST teams to emulate?
3) How well has the team communicated its excitement and impact within the entire school, community, and beyond (state/nation) through participation in FIRST during the 2006/2007 team year as well as in prior years?
4) Has the team documented an innovative way to spread the FIRST message?
5) How strong of a year-round team partnership effort is reflected during the 2006/2007- team year as well as in prior years? (You can define partnership in many ways, including: the partnership among the team’s students/corporate sponsor/engineers; school/university sponsor/engineers; students/adults; community/team)
6) As a whole, does the content of the documentation exemplify the true meaning of FIRST?
Your Chairman’s Award submission should include documentation for all the above factors.
