CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship
Is anyone ready to rock the house? So who is going to be the next National Champion out of the Curie Division? The possible alliance combinations out of this division are ...... ?

1114, 67, 469, 330, 118--Some of the biggest guns this year, and at least three of those five have won a regional. I'm not going to make any predictions about alliances until the picking. |
Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship
I think the hybrid ramp/ringer bots will be the key to victory in Championship elimination rounds. Curie has 3 of the best in 330, 469, and 1114.

No more than two of the following teams will be on the same alliance, barring a miracle: 67, 330, 469, 1114, any other good hybrid-class robot. |
Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship
I completely forgot HOT was a hybrid too
|
Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship
Cyberblue will be coming into this division with 2 regional victories at Boilermaker and LI.

Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship
We're a hybrid, too.

Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship
I'm speechless...............seriously.........I am.
At the same time, I'm really pumped for this division, due to the level of competition and the headache pretty much everyone has to go through for the alliances. I'm also happy to see that our partners in crime from NASA/VCU (semi-finalists) 343 and from Chesapeake (Finalists) 339 are in the same division. May be if the stars allign well, we can group up again and rock this division ;) 612 is indeed a hybrid bot........but we are also known as Quote:

Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship
Team 141 is a hybrid as well...and we're pumped for the championship.
It shall be a good division. I can't wait =D |
Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship
Ramps are going to be big factor. This was proven during the finals at the Palmetto Regional. Hybrid robots combined with great defense is going to be huge.
|
Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship
*FYI
1535 is not a rookie team, last year we were half of team 1596 - the International Instigators - but grew too large and split into 1596 and 1535. This is our 3rd year and 2nd time in Atlanta (2005 Rookie All-Stars at GLR in Ypsilanti). Looking forward to joining all of our friends again this year. see you all in ATL! |
Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship
Wow... Curie is going to be intense. Good luck, teams
|
Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship
Where exactly do you find what devision you are in. I saw another user list us (1102) in curie, but I'm not quite sure. We only got in after winning an award so we may just not be on this list....anyone know where to find it?

With all you dual purpose bots you'll need a good sole-purpose tube scorer in 648 *thumbsup*.

Team 357 is a Dangerous hybrid too. we can not only score ringers but we can also lift flat

Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship
that list of champs and finalists is pretty long. do we have the most in our division or just the best? we haven't got the chance to show it yet, because of the need to score, but 910 is always ready for a little defence.

Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship
There is another type of hybrid people are forgetting about.
The Tube scorer and Ramp climber! These are the teams who focused on tube scoring and a drivetrain to be able to climb ramps. A lot of really good tube scorers sacrifice part of their ramp climbing ability for more manuverablity. I do know that mecnums, omni's, swerve, 2wd, 4wd and so on can drive up ramps - but how reliably and fast? Nothing beats a 6wd with a exposed wheel to eliminate any ground clearence problems. Yes thats what 1015 got guys and gals, a tube / climber hybrid! |

Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship
This is going to be an interesting division.
Lots of good hybrids, arms and ramps. By the way, 180's ramp is big enough to land a plane. And the arm is quite sweet. |
Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship
Links to match videos, photos, and FIRST's team information for each team can be found on The Blue Alliance's Championship Portal which will have more and more information added to it over the week left until Championship!

Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship
Now that a new version of the "hybrid" has been introduced, the scorer/climber, hows about the "double hybrid"? We are a four ramp, two platform (totaling around 45 square feet), ramp climbing, tube scoring (best was 5 at West Michigan) robot. After replacing our camera at the end of the West Michigan regional we were able to place six of six keepers in auton on the practice field.
The bottom line here is this. There are 344 exceptional robots heading to Atlanta as I write this. Every robot headed there can do one, two, three or more things well and will each be a threat on the field. How well we all work together with whatever assets we each bring to the field will determine the outcomes. Congratulations to all and Good Luck! Does anyone want to start a scouting type forum for Curie, or did I just miss it? |

Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship
This division seems like it'll be as intense as West Michigan was. It'll be good to see some old alliance partners here :) (141, 1114).. I think the HOT team has a thing for 1's and 4's ;)
Good Luck To All Teams!! Let's make Curie the BEST Division and the Championship winner :D |
Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship
We'll be on Curie again (our team has been on Curie every year at the Championship). Lots of good teams, it's going to be quite a challenge!
And don't automatically assume manuverability means bad ramp climbing, we've been lifted 3 times despite a 4 wheel with omnis set up. Good drivers are key! |

At both Palmetto and Peachtree ramps were a big factor. A good combo for an alliance is two good scorers and 1 good defensive robot. Kell did very well at Peachtree. That alliance made it to the finals with a combination of good scoring and Kell's defense and ramps. At Palmetto, the finals came down to the ramps. One alliance had 3 scorers the other had two and a defensive ramp bot. The ramp team got 60 bonus point in each of their two wins in the finals which lead to them being Region Champs. |

I don't think 365 deserves a spot only 4 places ahead of us, they performed far better at their Regional events than we did. It's just for fun anyway though, so I guess it doesn't really matter.
Going off that list though, I predict that at least 1 of the Curie winning alliance members comes from below spot #50 on that list. |

I would keep an eye on team 1675...They always seem to struggle in the regionals but pull it all together in Atlanta.
They finished 10th in their division last year and was the #1 back up robot for the final rounds. They got in when another robot broke down (remember the Leher report on PBS) and performed well but were defeated by the alliance that eventually won the division. It surprising they didn't get picked up by an alliance. They're my sleeper pick for 2007. BC |

I think everything that will be said from now on would be repeated from earlier in this thread. ie, "Watch out for 1114 and 330!!!"
Does someone have something unique to post? Like... I don't know. Unique... not something about who's going to win, because I can assure you that there's a good chance that it won't be who you think. I donno... just an idea My $0.02 |

Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship
I watched video of the first 10 teams on the Curie list. IMO 67 had the best bot among those. It looked like they just had bad luck/strategy in the elims or they would've done better in regionals. Keep an eye on them.

Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship
There are couple of other threads going on discussing what kind of alliance can win the match and what kind of robot is yours.....
So I'll just share what I, personally, think about the division as a whole. I think this division has the potential to actually win the Championship. If you take a look at the list again, you can easily find awesome scorers, awesome def bots, and awesome ramp climbers and deployers. Its all going to boil down to alliances. I really cannot say what kind of alliance can win the Curie and the Championship, as everything is possible. It's going to be all about the strategy and who you're playing against. I would say for sure that good hybrid bots (scorers and ramps) are going to be really helpful, and might play a key role in an alliance. Other than that, I just cant wait......:D w000t! for Curie! Imad |
Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship
dude, curie is gonna be great!!! im at my computer and i am shaking i am soooo excited. maybe we'll get to hook up with our friends from chantilly (612) again. u guys are awesome.
we are siked to be in such an awesome division. it's gonna be tough. for the alliance parings, the second pick will be very important, just remember that. especially for the first few alliances. because there are enough amazing robots in curie that the 8 seeded alliance can get 3 very, very strong robots. so my message is.... DO YOUR SCOUTING!! my $.02 |

Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship
1510 wildcats are very excited for Curie division this year!
I wish we had shown what we could do at San Diego a little more. Our BaneBot gearbox broke literally 5 minutes before they kicked us out of the pits on thursday night. The next day we quickly put in a new one (missing the opening ceremony and one match) but when we plugged the electronics board back in, the lower arm pot was put in backwards so it burned out and we spent 2 matches trying to find the problem. We changed the pot and were finally out for one of the matches, but our arm presets were oscillating like crazy because of the new pots. By the time we finally got everything figure out, it was Friday after all our matches... yay for a series of unfortunate events. However, we have tested our autonomous (Saturday morning and two matches on Saturday) and we have it working at 100% (about 7 tries). Also, our arm is working perfectly again, and we found out we can do human loading (over the wall) easily as well. So we hope to show everyone what we can really do this time. I can't wait to see this competition. So many good teams, its going to be amazing. See you all there and the best of luck to all of you at the competition. Hope all you robots stay alive and running the whole time ;) |

Re: CURIE Discussion - 2007 Championship
Just wanted to say congratulations to all the Curie teams, Curie is ALWAYS the field to be on at the Championship.
A couple special shoutouts - Thanks to team 599 (whom didn't even have a FRC team at the Championships) and team 1114 for their extensive efforts with 1617 which enabled them to have a running robot to play with. Because of you guys, not a single team was unable to compete on Curie. Team 612 - You guys are awesome, I had a great time inspecting your robot (even when you guys made me autograph it :D That signature might be worth something some day) Team 330 - Amazing performance this year, and not just at the Championships. Winning 2 regionals and a Championship division says something about you guys. Especially with such a simple arm. Awesome job, we'll see you next year at the CA regionals. (I was expecting you guys to give those other 3 fields a run for their money on Einstein, but we couldn't let you guys win too many championships, can we? :p ) Oh, and Elijah .. you're crazy. Team 365 - I was a bit worried during your inspection, but was glad to see you got all the kinks worked out and made it into the final matches. Congratulations on the Chairmans Award, you guys really deserved that. Can't wait to see what you come up with next year! Was cool talking to you Lucas, been waiting to meet you for awhile. Team 180 - SPAM! My personal favorite this year - I loved the ramps, but the arm was awesome - I saw pictures of it, but didn't understand how it worked until I saw it, very cool. Was really disappointed to see your final ranking, with the random qualification paring, you sometimes get the short end of the stick. I was expecting you guys to get picked second round, but it doesn't always work out that way. Sorry about the miscommunication on the flag holder, I know you guys got tired of me with my clipboard in your pit :p Tell Scott I said hi, and that he owes me a SPAM shirt :D. (edit - hah! I just realized that I have 180 posts .. hehe) I could go on for hours with all the teams, but I'm going to stop here. All you guys on Curie were just awesome. Can't wait to see you guys again next year, only 364 more days till the next Championships in ATLANTA! (for those of you who don't know .. 04/16/08 - 04/19/08 :) ) |
