I predict this division will have some very surprising matches. Don't be shocked to see some rookies in the top 8, and scores less than 20 in elims.

i'm excited. it will be fun to play with some of the teams that i've seen at lone star and the bayou. i've been wanting to get a closer look at 1501's lifts too

Re: ARCHIMEDES DIVISION - 2007

Impressions:
-I'd watch for Woodside, team 100. They have a great scoring machine coming from the West, and also got scoring in autonomous down. Their grabber is awesome.
-Pink and the Poofs meet again. Both of them have amazing scoring machines. Watch out for them if they team up.
This is all I can recognize from what I've seen, but this division looks impressive.

Re: ARCHIMEDES DIVISION - 2007

904 didn't have the strongest showing at West Mich. We've fixed that and we're going to bounce back hard. (Just an FYI.)

Indeed. Knowing the defense at the last few regionals, you can bet that strategy will be high enough that you will not easily be left alone. Ramping will be a necessity (Think about it: if defense is strong enough that you can score maybe 16 points, ramping for 45~60pts is going to be huge.)

We have Beatty, BOB, and Chief Delphi. 3 robots that can grab and have ramps. Plus they've done well at their regionals, IIRC. Put big stars next to these teams.

I would not be surprised, in fact, if there was nothing breaking 200 at all of nats. At least half of the teams going are regional winners. 2/3 of the other half is chairman's and engineering inspiration award winners. Even if they didn't win a regional, 5/6 of the teams there will have it together.

This is probably obvious to those who have gone. For those of us that haven't: Buckle up. This, I'm suspecting, is going to be a particularly exciting year.

.

Don't forget the poofs. They have their ramps on and did pretty well at all their regionals.

Go ramping!
It's worked at 2 regionals so far :-)
I think it looks like an awesome Devision :)

Re: ARCHIMEDES DIVISION - 2007

Teams to watch: Element, Rush, The Chief, Hammond, BOB, R.O.B.O.T.I.C.S., GUNN, Pink, Poofs, Dragons, Martians, Digital Goats, THRUST, and how can I forget - Precision Guessworks. We've had some trouble at our regionals, looking to put that behind us and make this the real deal. Watch out for us, our ramps will be working and our drive will be pushing thanks to an easy wheel switch out.

Don't forget to keep your eyes out for 364 .. I may be a little biased, but being finalists at two regionals this season is pretty dang good.

This looks like it is going to be a fun division to play in. I can't wait until next week, but see everyone there.:)

Re: ARCHIMEDES DIVISION - 2007

All I have to say is 71, 494, and 435.:)

Looks like a tough division though. The number of great hangers/hybrids is better than the number of good ramps. The teams that are there are all very good. I already have started my pick list.

If anyone in Archimedes wants to collaborate with team 494 on scouting we would love to introduce you to our system. Please PM me if you want more details.

Re: ARCHIMEDES DIVISION - 2007

This will be 179's 3rd year in a row in Archimedes. Each year we lose to 217 in the finals. Thank God they're in Galileo.... Last year we beat them the first match, but they got us twice after that, then went on to win the whole thing...
Check out my regional performance ranking sheet, to get a feel for how the teams in Archi did at their regionals during seeding.
Code:

Regional        Regional
Winners                Finalists
293                364
100                179
1516                302
997                386
494                1533
832
175
254
935
1912
1216
354
1824
1127
342
1302
555
125
1713
1997
2274
1458
462
829
1013
1745

I don't think its safe to assume the Veteran teams are going to do well. There will only be 6-7 seeding matches most likely. Therefore anybody can make it in the top 8. There are a lot of strong high number teams in this division, they have the advantage with the match algorithm pairings. Therefore they will most likely be putting together the alliance that goes to Einstien. Scouting will be at a premium. Its hard to judge 86 teams in just 6 matches. Better do your homework people!

Watch out for the Technowarriors (768) and Spike (293)! Those robots look really good and may cause a few upsets here and there.

Re: ARCHIMEDES DIVISION - 2007

Wow, could Archimedes be last year's Newton?

As said before, there seem to be a lot of hybrids. That should make for some interesting game-play; perhaps more scoring and less bashing...

Team 100, will likely have a fully functional Auto mode by Champs. We’ve got both our gyro and camera working - just need to put them together.

We've also improved our drive-train enormously - it should turn smoother with less bouncing.

Looks like the whole Davis/Sac alliance is on Archimedes -1458,997,100 :D

Are we the only team in this division with a "roller" style manipulator?

A lot of robots from Davis/Sac, Really excited to be in this division We got our robot consistently scoring 3-4 tubes a game we fought hard against 100/997 alliance just didn't get enough offence oh well at least we lost to the winners. Maybe a return of the cotton candy alliance? 233/1323. All teams just remember to ask what can blue to for you?

What might be helpful is if every team were to place pics of their robot on this thread for pre-scouting purposes. I know teams like mine, 1403, don't have too many people going so every bit helps. Try to pick photos that allow for a good view of the robot. I'll start!

Shameless Self Promotion

Team 66

Great Lakes: 0-7-1 :(

Buckeye: 6-2-0 :) Went to Semis Only to be Shut Down by the better of 2 equals - Delphi ELITE 48 and their alliance - With their better ramps and better drive.

Champs: who knows , I stay optimistic.

Other than that, it is really cool to see RUSH, BEAST, and Martians are landing on the same field this year. Makes me feel REAL comfortable.

This is a personal message to 3 certain teams that I have admired my entire FIRST career..... TEAMs 71, 254, and 494

I have watched you guys since I was a little frosh back in high school. I have dreamed to play with you, or even against you. In my 6+ years in FIRST, never once has my team competed with/against any one of you. I hope this year is the year (and were preferably on the same alliance) ;)... if not, so be it, we'll give you our best shot!

Sounds an awful lot like the Midwest Regional finals matches - #7 seed against #1 seed. Except that the caption (111) is in Newton.

BTW, anything to say here other than "we're gonna rock nats!"?

Archimedes:

I am looking forward to seeing 175 in action. I thoroughly enjoy watching them play because you can count on them putting on a great show. I know Buzz has been on the Einstein field before and I am willing to bet they'll put up a fight for another chance.

From what I understand team 71 is a force to watch out for. I haven't personally seen them in action, but I've heard great things.. I mean comon' its Hammond.:)

Team 254... the CHEESY POOFS! This is one team everyone strives to be like. A regional win every year I believe? Their bot is extremely quick this year and if left alone they can be devastating.

Team 233, Think Pink has always been great. When I heard they were rebuilding their 2005 robot, I knew they started the formula for another dominating robot. They had their issues this year, but I think they straightened them out now. I wouldn't be surprised if they start putting up 7+ a match consistently.

Team 179, Swamp Thing is a quick scorer. If by some really slim chance that they fall to the 2nd round and get with 2 other great scorers, Archimedes will have the Championship event in the bag.

Team 125, Nutrons. Another great robot that can certainly deliver. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up in the top eight.

Team 494, the Martians. I have heard great things about their robot and I'll be watching out for them in qualifying rounds.

Archimedes - The Only Division where screwing around gets us somewhere.

On a more focused note though, this division seriously looks like it will do something beyond the normal in Atlanta. If Tim's Data mining is correct (and thats quite a long list of winners and runners up) it should be a very competitive field. And if it isn't competitive on the field, you will see some awards come out of this division, there are a lot of Chairmans and EI teams here too.

Scores less than 20 because everyone is scoring on the rack and they aren't able to get rows, you might see 10 tubes on the rack but only 20 points scored, it is possible to do this with the amount these robots are capable of.

I don't think there is really a way to rank robots like that.
A teams performance varies based on; the way they work with other teams; their driver and drive style, and who they are against.

Plus it's all from a personal point of view

If you are referring to the A,B,C, that is above it isn't a ranking it is the way that the scoring system groups the teams for the purpose of creating matches. Each match will have and ABC vs ABC. Most people agree that this is not a good way to do it, but that is how it is done so we must accept it.

I think he is refering to the alliance selection algorythm as opposed to a straight ranking of teams.

Of course, team number predicting performance is sort of the reason for this particular craziness.

So unless they change the algorithm (wouldn't that be nice  ) this is how it is going to be (well, except for the colors, Red could be Blue). I recommend getting a jump on your scouting for your 1st match.

I just want to throw it out there for those scouts thta you are going to have to be on it and don't get your hopes up for certain teams because it comes down to performance with a little like.
