same. I have all the computers in my house hooked up to Curie field at the moment, and nothing is working sound wise...

(I'm SUPPOSED to be in Atlanta. But then I got sick... I miss my team!)

Also, this is through windows media player...cause real player hates Vista with a passion. I installed real player and got the blue screen of death the moment it was installed XD)

Is there a problem with the audio feed?
I am watching Newton and there is no aduio on both the Real Media and Windows Media Player feeds.

There just seems to be many problems with the webcasts overall. I wonder whats up. Some have audio, but the ones with audio dont have match video.

Well Gal had fed of the field then swtiched back to videos, at that point there was no audio. what's with all these problems...

edit/ now back to field, and now audio. about time.

Re: 2007 Championship Webcast

Curie field is still having problems with sound. I hate how it's so far away from the field...

My team's bot has what seems to be a somewhat common design for robots with ramps, so it's hard to see.

I tried calling a couple of mentors and team members to see if they have the match list... but I can't get ahold of them.

BoyWithCape195 12-04-2007 10:02

Re: 2007 Championship Webcast

I have Galileo up with real, but it "communicates" every few seconds. My Internet connection is not slow either. Also, the video quality goes from very good quality to very poor.

Edit: More audio problems...

Ashley Weed 12-04-2007 10:10

Re: 2007 Championship Webcast

Glad to see Gali up and going now. Like said earlier, its hard to see with just the overhead cam.

Bongle 12-04-2007 10:19

Re: 2007 Championship Webcast

Galileo is apparently live and working properly (practice match 5 just ended). I hear audio, and it will be providing my music all day.

Loving the overhead camera: I don't really like the cameraman view, because quite often, they miss action on the other end of the field*. Hope they keep it this way for the real action tomorrow.

*Examples:
-With a zoomed-in view, you can only ever see one team ramping. At GTR, quite often you'd hear the announcer scream about rampings on the other side of the field, but only see the other team
-You can generally only see one team scoring at a time. Compression artifacts from the ramp swinging and the close-by robot often make the far side of the rack unviewable.

Sakura141 12-04-2007 10:21

Re: 2007 Championship Webcast

Hey! Sound on Curie is starting to sputter a bit for me. That's nice.

Edit: It's on now! It's nice being able to hear the stuff going on.

I finally left a message for my main mentor so that she can possibly give me the match schedule so I don't need to attach my face to the computer screen to see the robots.

The overhead cam is pretty bad though, especially when they put the scoring up and it covers the bottom part of the field (I know it's not a big deal, but it does bother me a bit).

Ashley Weed 12-04-2007 10:23

Re: 2007 Championship Webcast

The real test for me will come tomorrow around 1 when I hook this all up to my 32" LCD HDTV. 17" just isn't going to do it for me during the matches!

Bongle 12-04-2007 10:28

Re: 2007 Championship Webcast

I think it'd be nice if one year a team got 4 consumer 1080p cameras, locked them into overhead view, and afterwards distributed a bunch of gorgeous 720p or 1080p match videos via bit torrent. With 1080p resolution (1920x1080), a robot would, instead of being 45x45 pixels like it is on this webcast, be approximately 300x300 pixels. It would pretty much be the same as having the cameraman having the camera right up next to the robot, except you'd have all 6 on screen. As far as costs are concerned, a $1,500 camera isn't that bad when you're paying $10,000 for trip costs and entry fees.

Edit: Ok, so that camera can 6mbps HD video. This means that a single match (assuming a 2m 30s average) would be 900 megaBITS, or 112mb. An entire regional would, depending on the regional, be just 13gb. That's not that bad.

-Try rebooting.

-Try a different media player. Real Alternative is a codec that lets you play the Real stream in something that isn't RealNetworks official player. Just install it, no fancy stuff required. If you also hate the Apple Quicktime player for windows, you can find quicktime alternative as well.

-Try pressing stop on the media player, then pressing play again. This might help, though it only ever has helped me when I already had video

Those are all the ideas I have.

Here are all the stream links for the various fields (including VEX and lego league). These are the .ram and .asx files that tell the media player where to find the actual stream, hopefully you'll be able to open these.

Tried rebooting...all I got was no sound and video. But thevideo isn't of the matches its of the animations of teams in each respective division. Is this supposed to be happening?

Real Alternative is being really annoying but I'm trying to get it to cooperate.

When I press stop then play, I get the 2006 matches (some of them). Wierd, No?
Thanks for the help, I'll Keep Trying.

At least for galileo, there was still video though (sponsor ads and blurbs), so it shouldn't have been a black screen.

2056-1057-45 just scored 76-0. I know Cormier was looking for that.

Edit: VEX is soooo cool. The ability to rebuild your robot in a week just blows my mind. I would kill for an adult-aimed version of that.

XD I would if I could. But realplayer hates on my new computer. I actually have 3 of them open on 2 computers right now. Archimedes and Newton on my mom's, and Curie on mine (since I'm here more obviously)

I picked Archimedes because the other two Holland area teams are there (85 and 107).

141 and 74 (The other two HA teams) are both in Curie, as well as 2054, the rookie team my team bussed down and all that. It's nice to have them all in one field.

Case in point: near the end of a match with the one team there that I know, they cut to the close-in rack camera. Of course, this caused me to totally miss rampings on both ends of the field.

In the match in question (practice 34 part 2), the rack only had 3 unscored legs, with a full field of robots. I think the best I'd seen in any regional I attended was 19, and that's been beaten already IN PRACTICE. Spoilers might finally be worth throwing out now.

I know that 195 gave 330 their spot in the most recent match due to technical issues. I don’t know if it was a trade for another practice match time or what. I feel bad for my old team though, broke in their first match, and haven’t been able to show their stuff yet; oh well....it happens...

I'm good with Curie. I like being able to see this close to the field. Yesterday I had to glue my face to the screen to see my team. I did see Trent, who I could tell because of how he walks, and I could see David because of his fro... but that's about it XD... Our bot has what seems to be a somewhat common design for hybrid ramp/scorer bots, so I needed to look hard yesterday to see where my team was.

That's not always true...he just told us 2 or 3 days ago, and he's MCed other fields and other regionals (that we're not at) before. He does like to be where we are, though.

Are they rotating the MCs/announcers, or do they just have guest people on Curie right now? Dave was on this morning with Sir Charles, but neither of them are doing it right now.

Whenever other teams such as the CircuitRunners or the Blue Alliance get around to uploading them, which can be anywhere from days to weeks after the event.

Newton wasn't doing that when I was watching it earlier, but Archemedes does seem to have commercials in between each match. Admittedly, they're much better than the commercials on TV, but I'd also like to watch teams setting up. It's a good way to pick out what robot belongs with what team when you're watching the webcast.

Galileo hasn't had any commercials yet (except at Lunch). Although I have heard from several people about Archmedies and the commercials. I know that it isn't the same but they have the standings and results posted here:http://www.usfirst.org/community/frc/content.aspx?id=432&menu_id=80&terms=championship& rawsearchtype=1&fragment=false&SearchType=AndWords.

Also Try refreshing the webcast every once in a while. That has worked for me in the past.

I'm pretty tired of it too... I want to see my team setup...

Curie is being horrible with commercials.

On Curie, if there is not a match or the score posted there are commercials, the same ones played over and over. I would rather see my kids setting up the robot or there team in the stands cheering for them. Most of the time they don't make it back to the match before announcing the teams and you miss seeing the kids all together.

I was watching the Archemedes webcast while doing physics with my friend this morning. When Buzz's match, match 22 started playing I stopped to watch. About half way through the match I realized that my friend was watching really intently. After the match ended she said "Wow! That was awesome!" I though that was pretty neat, because she had never seen a FIRST match before.

Trust me, I'm just as tired of seeing them as you are (even in person).

Well, after the first day of the 2007 FIRST Championship, my alma mater team, 34 The Rockets, is ranked... 34  out of 86 robots in Curie.

Also, there's nothing coincidental about 1511 Rolling Thunder being 19 ;) out of 86 robots in Newton. Glad to see them on the rise.

I found the commercials to be rather silly. They cut in and out of them randomly, sometimes not showing the start of the match or the announcing of the teams. The commercials should be taken off.

Most of the time the sound was still comming through from the match, I didnt understand half of them. I hope they don't fix the sound, it might interupt my dancing! Afterall, got to keep in spirt even if your not there in the flesh. =D

i dont know why but i cant watch the real player version and the wmp version.
anybody have any idea how to watch it. it just says connecting.. and it just gives me this error:

Windows Media Player cannot play any items in the playlist. To find information about the problem, click the Now Playing tab, and then click the icon next to each file in the List pane.

I had something similar happen with a few of my classmates when I was watching the webcast with a teammate this morning in precalc. A few of them came over to watch, but none really stayed that long. The lack of sound probably didn't help much, the computer had no speakers.

The public agenda says opening ceremonies were supposed to start at 8:30, but they're still playing the commercials over and over again. :( I wonder what's up?

EDIT: Nevermind, the matches are up now. :)

Well, at least they came over to see what was going on =D That's pretty cool.

The only ones here that are watching it are me, my grandma (She's VERY impressed by what we build in 6 weeks, and how we act and all that), and my mom (Who is equally impressed).

Last year, when I was on drive team and we were in the finals at the midwest, my grandpa had a chance to watch the webcast. According to my mom, he was getting into it, thought it was amazing, and extremely proud of his granddaughter for being involved in something THIS cool =D (Unfortunatly, he passed away a week after he got to see me at the Midwest).

But I think it's pretty cool that so many other people think this is amazing. Webcasts are awesome because they can provide something of this experience to those who cannot be at the events.

Thank god for the webcast of the championships =D

Where is the SOUND! We need sound on Curie!

Re: 2007 Championship Webcast

I came back from my shower to see no webcast, because Curie disconnected.
Now, loading it back, there's no sound, and it's very choppy.

WE NEED SOUND BEFORE ALLIANCE SELECTIONS!

yeah Curie's webcast opens in frames, doesn't play, you just get the initial picture

Arcamedies has sound... and were those teams just attacking the announcer? I need a bigger picture!

It's kinda annoying >.< I hope they get it figured out before alliance selections. Team 141 still has a chance as does every other team in the division.

So what if we're ranked... 46th at the time (I think).

If teams have done their scouting, they'll go by scouting, not by ranks.

In case the NASA guys are reading this, the Curie WMP stream is running at about 4.9 frames per second, with no sound.

I tried RealPlayer as well, and it's doing the same thing as WMP.
