Re: Thoughts Go Out to 401/VT
As a Hokie alumni with lots of ties to (wife, brother, sister-in-law) and love for the university, I am in a state of shock that something like this could happen in such a peaceful university community. My thoughts and prayers are with all of the VT students, faculty, families, and the community. If there is anything that I can personally do (or that of team 2068) for anyone involved in this tragedy, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Re: VA Tech Shooting - Thoughts Go Out to 401/VT
Just thought I'd let you know that somebody announced they were going to do it on 4chan today. They posted it around 5:00 AM this morning.
![]() Other things that have actually happened on 4chan (just to say that some people on here are serious) include someone videotaping their own suicide and the origin of the national scare of bombing sports arenas were people on 4chan. |
Re: VA Tech Shooting - Thoughts Go Out to 401/VT
Hello All...
First and foremost we need to keep the families of the victims of this horrible act in our thoughts and prayers. They need us now more than ever. Please keep this in mind. I first heard of this, this morning while at work and tried to keep up with it as i could thru out the day. Our lead teacher and her husband are both graduates of Tech along with her oldest daughter so they are very close to all there. Her youngest daughter is in her second year there and ok. One of our mentors has a daughter in her third year and is a engineering student. She is fine also. Our team is like a large family and we try to keep up with one another and help out when we can. We have been next to 401 in the pits at VCU and routed for them in 2006 (they won VCU that year) and when we were off the field in 2007. While we don't know each other very well...we do talk and such and their mentors have given us many ideas for our team. I hope things can get back to normal at Tech (as normal can be after something like this) and Tech will continue the be the excellent school it is. One thing thats not mentioned here much is that they hold a FLL competition at Tech each year and a couple of our team students have been to it. Our lead teacher while a Tech grad and FRC team leader is also the team leader for our local FLL team. God bless the Hokies |

Re: VA Tech Shooting - Thoughts Go Out to 401/VT
"Chit-Chat" is a little belittling for this topic. I wish there was some other place we could hold this discussion. I just did a quick search, and all the 9/11 threads ended up in "Chit-Chat" too. I think that this forum label trivializes the important things being talked about here.
I don't know what you would call it (or where it would be placed, or who would moderate it, or what would be allowed to be posted in it, etc.), but I think we need a new place to talk about national and international events that occur beyond the scope of FIRST, but will most definitely have a profound effect on the FIRST community nonetheless. Or if this change can't be made, can we at least put this thread (or some type of announcement) somewhere that would appear in the standard portal? |
Re: VA Tech Shooting - Thoughts Go Out to 401/VT
I was shocked to find out when I heard about this in the morning and everyone that I know there is safe. This is scary because I was on campus and in that building on Thursday as the school is one of the colleges I would love to go to. My thoughts go out to those that died and their families.

Re: VA Tech Shooting - Thoughts Go Out to 401/VT
Team 342 would like to extend our deepest condolences to VT and Team 401. We are very thankful to hear that no 401 members were hurt and if there is anything we can do, please let us know. Our thoughts and prayers are with the VT community.
On a personal note, I will be attending VT in the fall. Even after this horrible tragedy today, I still think of VT as a welcoming, close knit community, where I have made many friends. I have been totally devstated watching the events unfold on TV and can't begin to imagine what its like to actually be there. My condolences to the entire VT community. |
Re: VA Tech Shooting - Thoughts Go Out to 401/VT
I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the friends and family of all the VTech students. This truly is a horrific tragedy. I am quite relieved to hear all the members of team 401 are safe. It hit home to think I was in those very same buildings only a few months prior on a visit.

Re: VA Tech Shooting - Thoughts Go Out to 401/VT
Wow, this is a real shame. We have an alum from 1089 that is an engineering student there. I should call his sister and make sure he's okay....
Heartfelt prayers go out to everyone at VA Tech & to all the families that were affected by this tragedy. |
Re: VA Tech Shooting - Thoughts Go Out to 401/VT
Thoughts and prayers go out from Cyber Blue 234. This is devastating news; it's hard to believe that someone would purposely do something like that.:( We're thinking about all the families and friends that have lost someone or have had to experience the effects of this tragedy.

Re: VA Tech Shooting - Thoughts Go Out to 401/VT
My thoughts go out to whoever else who are at VT or know those who fell victim to todays events. I am a Junior at Virginia Tech, but am currently working in New Jersey on a Co-op. I would like to send support to all of those on team 401, Hokie Guard, I hope that all of your members and loved ones are safe.
I would also like to assure any students who are applying or thinking of applying to Virginia Tech, to not let this deter you. Tech has always felt as safe as home, I hope that this freak occurrence will not deter you from a school where engineering, science and many other fields are taught and opportunities are available that are nowhere else. Prayers to all involved |
Re: VA Tech Shooting - Thoughts Go Out to 401/VT
How quickly the celebrations of Saturday turn to thoughts of sorrow for those who were lost in the VT massacre today...Team 987 gives our best to the survivors and our thoughts go out to all those innocents lost today. Man, reality can really suck sometimes...

Re: VA Tech Shooting - Thoughts Go Out to 401/VT
I just got home, and my mom asked me if I had heard about what happened at Virginia Tech. I said "No, What Happened?" She flipped on CNN, and one of the first things I could think of was to check CD to make sure that everyone from 401 is okay. I'm relieved to hear that everyone is fine, and I extend my thoughts and condolences (as well as those of team 852) to the students, faculty and administration of Virginia Tech. Best of luck making it through these trying times.
