Re: VA Tech Shooting - Thoughts Go Out to 401/VT
Well I ended up working a double yesterday at work and didn’t get to hear about this till I left work at about 11 pm last night.
I immediately called my 5 friends that I know go to VA Tech and they are all safe, but scared and sadden. My prayers and thoughts are with everyone there and I know investigators will be able to sort out everything. Now I would like to address another issue out of this. First thing I heard last night when I turned on the news was the bashing of how Law Enforcement handled this situation and why didn’t they lock down the campus after the first two shootings. Then today when I woke up I saw they are calling for the firing of the President and Police Chief of Virginia Tech. The first two shootings were of the girlfriend and an adviser. First thing I thought of was domestic dispute. Now I am sure that is what the police were thinking. With that thought of mine there is no need to secure the whole campus. You just secure the immediate crime scene and surrounding area. I personally think that everyone did a great job in handling this. There is no way to prepare for something like this. Even after Columbine you can only prepare so much and that was eight years ago. After that long even if you stepped up security, you know it will get lax and go back to how it used to be. Look at the airports before and after 9/11 and now look at them; they are almost back to the way they are before 9/11. This is just a sad tragedy that no one had ever seen happening. My prayers are with everyone involved. |

Re: VA Tech Shooting - Thoughts Go Out to 401/VT
I'm glad to hear that everyone on 401 is okay. We just talked about the whole thing in my class and I heard that a professor who had survived the holocaust placed himself in front of a door so that his students would be safe. The professor was then shot. That's the most touching thing I've ever heard and I'm glad to hear that people still have this kind of kindness. I'd like to send out my regards for any family members of the wounded or murdered. I hope that time, if nothing else, will make things better.

She also said there was one guy in the French class who didn't get shot at all. Somehow he managed to avoid bullets even though the room was sprayed with bullets on three occasions. He arrived late for class and ended up sitting in the back of the classroom & as soon as he saw the gunman dove underneath his desk. A girl was shrieking next to him, and he advised her to be quiet. He also told his classmates that were moaning in pain to lie on the ground and "play dead." The two of them (him and the girl with a superficial bullet wound next to him) managed to walk out of the classroom. |
