I have access to some servers/hosting bandwidth. Let me know if this takes off, and I can host it. At least temporarily. Sorry I don't have the time to do anying scripting myself.... many other projects. Maybe at a later date.

I think this sounds like a great idea. I think it would help more teams to open up to each other and help more people to get to know each other. Then you would be able to be on CD and actually know background information about some of the people and teams through the FIRST myspace. It would help everyone feel even more connected. If I had any knowledge of how to do this, I would help. Unfortunately, I don't, so good luck to those who are thinking about following through on this. :)

I like the idea. I can't host (unfortunately), though I'd be more than honored to participate in such a project should you need a programmer :) /whatever.

Open source project? That might be the way to go, but it would be up to whoever's in charge...

Keep me updated. I'd be glad to help with anything I know how to do and more than glad to learn if I don't know something.

I'll be one of the first to sign up in any case. :D

Open Source is a good thought, but it would depend a lot on the capabilities of the software. The hope for this is to make a more customized version. We already have 3 on board that I know of, not including anyone late last night or today. It shouldn't be too difficult for a decent team of programmers to put it together. I have enough background with the databasing (probably MySQL for this one. sorry gigaman) and if we delegate well enough we should be able to have it done by the end of summer for release for next season.

Anyone interested in helping, PM Tluck234. He's heading it up and taking names.

We could also use some input on what to call it. We did some domain searching and firstspace.org, firstconnect.org, and myfirstspace.org / .net are available. If you like any of these or have another idea, please post it.

Has someone actually approached myspace about possibly adding a section. Kinda like Myspace Music it could be something like FIRST.myspace.com and they could do something that requires memebers to prove they are apart of FIRST in order to register for it. It would be like myspace music but instead of a band it would be a FIRST Team. I think if somebody (or a group of people) professionally approached Mysapce about that they may take it into consideration and it would have a lot of potential...

the problem with that is that "first.myspace.com" would still be blocked at a lot of schools. because they block the "myspace.com" part so no matter the subdomain its still blocked. it would also be a pain IMO because myspace code is pretty bad it would be nice to have one set up tats efficient and easy to customize. instead of having to figure out the codes to do it on myspace you could have a set of common tags that you can set styles too.

Yah I think that the First Wiki's are attiquite... I know that with a lot of people, parents look at myspace as a terrible website, that is bad for kids. I myself have one, but I am not sure about bringing myspace to the whole FIRST crowd, because not only do some parents not like them, but some schools will definitely have a problem with there high school being on a myspace that they have no control over. Our high school made us take there name "Northville High School" off of our website, and change it to Northville Michigan. Like I said I think that the First Wiki's are attiquite, and there is not really a need to bring myspace into the FIRST scene.

I agree with the fact that they are blocked. But for us (our region anyways) chiefdelphi was blocked at our school to. All it took was a few phone calls and the board unblocked it for us because they now know what it is for. So I think if you get it up and running ( It seems like a very sweet idea) that if you inform your schools on what it is for, and no one abuses it ( thankfully the people of FIRST aren't jerks like that :D) then it shouldn't be a major problem with school. If you could get the bandwidth then go for it! I think it would be a great way to promote our teams to other teams lol.

OUch...our school is simi strict but it would never get to that point. What is so wrong with your website?
