Does anyone have an estimate for the price of the dorm rooms?

This information is not 100% confirmed, but this is the last I heard: there are a block of rooms that will be available at the Crown Plaza Hotel for $99/night (2 double beds), and the dorms will be $48/night for a single and $54/night for a double. The website will be updated to reflect the true costs once everything is fully confirmed.

Great - that gives us a good ballpark.

I just noticed last year's history page on the BattleCry website doesn't have any of the awards or Finals info. Also I'd love to have video of the final match of the finals if its available.

I just searched the forums for "wicked awesome" and this thread showed up on top.

Should I be surprised? Probably not.

Team 166 is glad to be coming back... for the 8th year :D

I don't have scores or anything, but here are videos of the finals:

From Battlecry site:
Autonomous bonus: Referees will place ringers to complete any vertical row occupied by a keeper scored during the autonomous period. These ringers shall come from a separate referee-accessible-only supply.
Are these ringers placed at the end of autonomous or at the end of the match? If at the end of the match, do these rings take scoring priority over rings placed there by the opposing alliance?

The ringers will be placed by the referee between autonomous and operator control. Also note that the bonus ringers are RINGERS, not KEEPERS.

Re: Announcing BattleCry@WPI 8!

Now that the change to the game has been officially released, I can talk about it. ;)

I honestly cannot wait for BattleCry@WPI, as now the autonomous portion of the game is finally getting the respect it deserved. Now, with their new "vertical row" addition to the game, one alliance can more or less own the rack in autonomous. If they are able to score one keeper on either side of the rack, the longest row the opposing alliance can get is only three tubes long!

IMHO, this will have two interesting effects on the game: it will be easier to start "growing" rows as now you have more freedom on where to place your first teleoperated tube (supposing that you scored in autonomous), as well as increasing the importance of spoilers to the game.

If wicked awesomeness could be could exist as a tangible noun, we'd have to look no further than BattleCry@WPI to find it. :D

Re: Announcing BattleCry@WPI 8!

Comparing the two approaches we've seen so far to enhance autonomous (Battlecry & IRI), it's really hard for me to say which I prefer. The 15 point bonus of IRI's approach gives you an instant point boost, and does not give one alliance a distinct advantage over controlling the game. Using the BC rules, scoring a keeper becomes a paramount factor in determining the game if only one alliance does it, as it promotes them to expand their rows vertically and locks teams into specific sections of the rack for their scoring, which is something we started to see at Nationals. While I'm sure this was bound to happen with the level of defense people from NE are going to play, a single keeper in autonomous is now worth 8 instant points, and very quickly, that 8 multiplies. I eagerly anticipate the high-level of play that this will promote, I worry for alliances that will be unable to cap during autonomous in qualifiers and be at a disadvantage. Nevertheless, I can't wait to see the elimination rounds :D .

I guess 177 better hurry over to RAGE's practice facility and get working on our auto...

PS: What happened to diagonal rows? :-p

The new autonomous rule created for BattleCry@WPI was made so they would not need to alter the scoring software, while still allowing for a bonus for autonomous. ;)

On that note (the scoring software), I might as well ask here: Will Battlecry be using the FIRST "Week 2" algorithm designed for more variety than the Week 1 Algorithm, or will something different be used to account for attendance on Friday?

- Please share this with your teams if signed up to attend BattleCry or planning to attend just to watch -

This is a good timeto start planning your team's Teambuilding efforts for next fall. If you are a mentor and have an interest in attending a NEMO-sponsored Teambuilding Workshop, please e-mail me. If enough people are interested I will contact my good friends at WPI and ask if they can arrange for a room for us to meet in on Saturday.
