**FIRST EMAIL**/FIRST President Paul Gudonis Announces New Initiative - The President
 

Those of you who attended the 2007 Championship Closing Ceremonies or watched them on NASA TV/webcast will recall that FIRST President Paul Gudonis, in conjunction with Chad Hurley, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of YouTube, made an exciting announcement about the formation of his President's Circle. As May 1st is coming fast, we want to provide you with the following key information so you can be ready to "get in the game!"*

• Paul's video will be posted at 1:00 pm EDT on May 1st, 2007;
• The URL to view the video will be both emailed to you prior to May 1st, and posted on our website;
• Watch the video all the way through for full instructions on the challenge;
• Deadline for submitting your video is May 30th, 2007 at 5:00 pm EDT.
• Criteria for Submission: In order to participate, a team must have successfully recruited and started at least one (1) other FRC team.

We encourage all of you that qualify to participate, however, we encourage you NOT to start creating a video until after the guidelines are posted.

Ugh... I don't like that criteria for submission... we've tried very hard, with no avail to start another team. Too bad it doesn't count for FVC teams... we've got at least 3 on the way. :(

Yeah. We're a rookie team and we're starting at least 4 FLL teams and possibly one or two FVC teams to go along with the one we already have, but the schools in our district are both not very well off in the money department, and it's pretty hard to find people interested. Our school is a math/science magnet school, the only one in our district, so we tend to attract almost everyone who might be interested in this type of thing... tough stuff... we were looking forward to this challenge too... we might make one just for fun and then use it for our own recruitment purposes... depending on the actual challenge of course.

I can't wait to see until the "kickoff" video is released; I've been looking for a good excuse for a while to film a new promotional film for our team, as the last one I made explicitly as a team promotional film was from the 2005 season.

Isnt the video supposed to be about starting an FRC team ? Vex teams are great to start...but i think starting an FRC team is a tad more challenging.

I mean NO DISRESPECT whatsoever to VEX with this post.

578 is in the process of starting up a new FIRST robotics team in the rochester area right now. And while this probably doesn't apply to us this year, next year we will definitly have an entry! (If they continue the challenge)

even though either of my teams haven't started a team, I'm going to still add in our imput if we have any. Not to win, but to get the ideas out there.

Does this include FLL and FVC teams or just FRC?
The video indicated it could be any, but this seems limited.

From what I gathered from watching this once, it looks like they want you to mention any team that you've inspired, whether it be FLL, FVC, or FRC. It asks you to name them as well in one of your title slides.

Pres. Gudonis indicates at 1:32 and 2:36 in the video that this year's video challenge is about recruiting new FRC teams, but the slide indicates that they want you to list the FRC, FVC and FLL teams (and I assume JFLL also) you have started already. Post your question at forums.usfirst.org in the President's Circle forum for an official answer.

As someone who has been to the Founder's Reception, the notion of someone walking around WestWind without those blue shoe covers on is just a little mind-boggling. (Then again, even photography in there is a concept, at least since I've been involved.)

If anyone needs a hand with editing for small formats, I have a smidgeon of experience there.

Do they expect the numbers and names of all teams our teams have started? In 781's case allowing enough time for everyone to read the names of 4 FRC teams and 22* FLL teams would eat up a bit of time (and I am sure there are many teams out there with higher numbers then that)... One thought someone on our team had was mentioning numbers on the video and referring people to our website for info on each team. Do you think that would be effective or would it be better to stick with names and numbers cutting a bit of time out for us?

Good luck to everybody in this! I look forward to seeing how this challenge progresses mostly seeing its impact on FIRST, which with the right leverage could be big.

*22 includes this years Power Puzzle FLL game, if you were to include only the teams from last year it would be 10 FLL teams.
