2008 Regional Dates

Does anybody know the dates for the 2008 Regionals. We are interested in the new Oklahoma City Regional, and would like to know when it will be. We are hoping that there will not be any scheduling conflicts with Lone Star. We are also wanting to add one more regional to our schedule. :)

Re: 2008 Regional Dates

The "Welcome to 2007 FRC Season" email was sent out on 12 Sep 2006. It had links to the calendar, but I don't know if all the regional dates were finalized then. If not then, it was shortly thereafter, as regional registration began 2 Oct 2006.

Re: 2008 Regional Dates

In July - August normally some information from individual users that are on planning committees is release/rumor on when a regional is. Of course that information isn't official until FIRST posts it in Mid September.

Until then many will be wondering

Get in touch with someone on the Regional Planning Committee, or better, the Regional Director. It's possible that they will have already arranged for the venue, and will be able to let you know in advance.

Tristan's right. Many events use venues that must be booked well in advance, and quite a few are already booked now for their 2008 events. Your regional planning committee or regional director will know if dates for a particular event are already set by venue availability.

The Hawaii regional is set! March 27-29, 2008.
The committee had to secure the Stan Sheriff Center at the UH Manoa campus and move some of our mens volleyball games already.
It will be official when Dean Kamen makes the announcement in Hawaii on May 14!
Hope all of you can come!

I'm looking for expected dates of regionals March 13-15... my spring break. That looks as though it would be the only time I could go to a regional that isn't in Chicago. I'm looking for a fun place to go that's pretty far from here. I was planning on Hawaii but I just can't afford to miss any school again.

Hello...

I wondered about this too and since we go to VCU every year I looked up the
VCU Segal center's schedule and as usual they have the first Thurs, Fri, and Sat in March scheduled, but what was odd was that wednesday was scheduled also..then again...it might be a set-up day.

Odd that they call it a conference...

Isn't Easter in the middle of March next year? Is FIRST going to skip that week or are they going to go on with the regionals? If they do have regionals during that weekend, would anyone actually go?

Good Friday is March 21, Holy Saturday is March 22 and Easter is March 23, 2008.
Passover is April 19, 2008 (during Championships in Atlanta).

Sorry about delay in confirmation of previous estimate for Las Vegas Regional...the regional venue is available for us March 27-29 (at UNLV's Thomas and Mack Arena of course). Expect an even bigger and better event with many positive changes our planning committee is implimenting! Of course this is not "official"...but I am on the planning team so draw your own conclusions.

Wednesday is a set up day. When FIRST rents a venue they like rent it from Wed.-Saturday night. It's quite interesting being there on Wednesday, seeing everything come together.

Seeing that I had nothing to do this moment, I compiled the list of responses about regionals so far, (ill post updates as time goes along)

In this thread so far it's been said:

Wisconsin Regional - March 13 - 15, 2008

Peachtree Regional - March 13 - 15, 2008

New Minnesota Regional - March 27 - 29, 2008

Hawaii regional - March 27-29, 2008.

Las Vegas Regional - March 27-29, 2008 (not official)

What I've heard for seattle is that it will be at the Key Arena (possibly just a rumor), and I haven't heard much beyond speculation about dates.

Will team 1983 possibly be seeing the high rollers up here in seattle? We're not sure yet if we're going to have the funds for 3 regionals, and we are definitely attending portland and seattle. I know many of our members would like to go back down to vegas though, we were thrilled to get a win under our belts in vegas our rookie year. You guys were definitely a team for us to look up to.

The High Rollers are indeed planning to attend the new Seattle Regional, especially if it is scheduled during the first couple of weeks. We are excited about a chance to visit Seattle (who wouldn't be?). We are hoping to continue the momentum gained co-winning the Championship in Atlanta and think being a part of a new regional is a great way for the kids to continue growing...

Week Six! Does this mean other regionals can be on week 6? or is this an NYC-only kind of thing?

In the greater northeast area you have FRC Regionals in Manchester, NH, Boston, MA, Hartford, CT, NYC, Long Island, NY, and then spreading out further from that are the Trenton, NJ, Philadelphia and Pittsburg, PA regionals, Finger Lakes, etc. Lots of opportunities.

And please note that while much of this information is being released by people "in the know", nothing's official until FIRST releases the schedule.

What, the three games weren't enough for us? Me thinks you're addicted! (Actually, it's never enough.) I might go down to Long Island next year so I can explain the game to my father. Much better than trying to explain it over the phone. 80+ years old and he goes over to watch.

Philidelphia? Pittsburgh? Annapolis? New Jersey? Hartford? Long Island? NYC?(I'm not familiar with the east coast so I don't know the distances.)

You should be correct. Hawaii has been CONFIRMED for week 5 during the same dates. that's too bad, we can't go to Vegas, again.:(

Re: 2008 Regional Dates

If you are deeply concerned, contacting the planning committee is your best bet. Here are a couple other things you can try:

If the event is at a university, there is a high probability that it will be near the school's spring break when athletic teams and events aren't using the facilities as much as they normally would.

If the event is at any sort of conference center / stadium, they may have a calendar of events for the year that lists FIRST as some sort of conference or competition (generally listed as open to public).

It may be wise, though, to have a couple back-up plans ready in case the dates you want really really don't work out - somebody mentioned Easter as a mid-competition season big holiday, that is definitely something to look at.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Week 5 is the last weekend of regionals prior to the Championships in Atlanta April 17-19.

On another note, it looks like there will only be about 15 slots or so for non-Hawaii teams. :(

Boy you guys are really going for the extreame.
Careful you might crack from the temperature difference (If you need a good reference point watch Cool Runnings for the scene when the Jamacians first experience winter in Calgary. That's sort of upstate NY).

Figured we stay on the East Coast since we are over 5k miles away from home already. Last year's NJ event with NYC in close to 0 degree weather was an eye-opener for many of our team members who never even been on a plane out of Hawaii before.

It's always been at the end of Purdue's spring break in the past. If that holds true for next year, it would make it March 13-15, 2008. I believe that's FRC Regional Week 3.
