Oh yes, the 330-1114 alliance is still possible! >_> <_< I can't wait to watch / hear the results in July, that list is epic.

Last year we went 6 teams into the waiting list I think, and that was with a 60 team limit.

I wouldn't want to guess for this year, but the requirements are for teams to make decisions quickly and complete their registrations so that others will have time to decide if given the option.

Interesting selection process. A lot of excellent teams, but not much chance if you are a rookie team and didn't know about IRI in the past. Too bad, some of us could have learned a lot from seasoned pros!

Consider going there to observe and enjoy, maybe even volunteer! You can learn a lot from watching the teams work, scout, strategize and socialize. It's a really fun event, $1/head for BBQ, and the talent show is included.

Indy is only about a 4-hour drive from St. Louis, I drove from Collinsville, IL last year and will do it again this year.

Watch that timezone thing, it used to be a little weird in Indiana, but now they've got it working...

GREAT Idea Dave (emphasis added),

I second that!

We all know volunteers are the lifeblood of FIRST. And this is one of the best events to attend - and maybe get your feet wet as a volunteer if you haven't tried it before. I guarantee you will be glad you did.

Just so everyone knows there was a lot of agony and thought put into these selections. I was not part of the group to choose teams but watched the process that they used. I can honestly say they tried to make the fairest and best selection criteria. They wanted for every team to be given an opportunity and gave every team that applied a chance to make it in. Due to size of our venue and it is a good venue we just can’t accept everyone. I hope that if your team was not chosen and if you are a rookie you would still take the time to attend or participate in some way or another. These guys that choose these teams are some of biggest bleeding hearts I know and for them to get this number to where it is was hard on them. Thanks for the time.

Next time come to our place, we could easily run two fields and have enough space for as many pit stalls as you would want.

Wow, the field of competitors must have been incredibly tough this year. A team who has gone to IRI, was the #8 seed (quarterfinalist) at Great Lakes and the #8 seeded finalist at West Michigan only made 6th on the wait list!

Wonder if the selection committee was chewing those little pink Pepto Bismol tablets - they don't taste half bad...

I was not suprised in the least that 648 wasn't invited... that's what you get when there isn't effort placed in the registration essay.

Oh well! I'll still be there! I'm asking for the time off tomorrow! I'm so excited that 107 got in... I'll be there in my maroon platoon shirt.

Oh yeah, I emailed to volunteer yesterday, go me!

Can't wait to see the exillerating competition!

(Can you tell I'm excited?)

Actually, LNHS is big enough for two fields and 150 teams.
We simply do not want the IRI to grow to that level.

At the size we are (66 - 72 teams), teams get 8 good matches, almost 1/2 of the field will be in the eliminations, the competition is tough, the organization of the event is manageable for people who do this as volunteers, the parent crews can cook and feed all of the teams, and we keep the "fun" feel for everybody.

There is a challenge to not letting this get too big and so cumbersome that it is no longer fun for everyone involved. We think the current team level (72) is just about right. :)
