Technology Wing at Agawam HS to be named for John T. Burns

As you know (or may not know), Mr. Burns is retiring this year and the Agawam School Committee has decided to honor John for his 41 years of dedicated service to the education of our youth in Agawam. John is not only a dedicated teacher and mentor, but he has served on many statewide curriculum committees on math, science and tech ed and is a founding member of Rosie. He has tirelessly promoted FIRST in the community, state and nationally.

On June 7th at 6:30 pm, the Technology Wing at AHS will be named the John T. Burns Technology Wing. A dedication ceremony will take place
at that time on Rt. 839, the section of pavement outside John's former
classroom. In case of rain, the ceremony will move indoors to auditorium.

Mark your calendars now.........PM me for more details.

While I always love supporting Rosie at their pasta dinner fundraisers, it's not the meal I go for... it's to see the twinkle in John's eyes as he proudly shows me the FRC bot in progress, or Rosie's Lil Sis' Vex robot accomplishments, or the many newspaper clippings about the team or its members... His passion is contagious! John is one of those people that you are glad you have met through FIRST. Although I know he is probably embarassed by the acknowledgement, I give kudos to the school administration for recognizing his efforts in this way. Congratulations, John!

It's a beautiful sunny day here in Southern New England - I'm looking forward to tonight's ceremony - how wonderful that we get a chance to congratulate and thank mentors who have given so much to our youth and to FIRST. If you're in the MA/CT area please consider attending tonight's dedication and wear a FIRST shirt to show the Agawam community how much it means to be a member of the FIRST Family!

Directions to AHS, as requested by the many who said they are coming, are as follows:

From Rt. 91 (either North or South)
take exit 3 (Rt 5 N) over the Connecticut River.
At the end of the bridge, take your 1st exit, Rt 57 W.
Go down the ramp to the rotary, go 1/2 way around it to Rt 57 W
Go approx 2.5 miles to the Mill St, Feeding Hills exit.
Go up to the top of the ramp, bear to the right, stay to the right.
Agawam High School is right in front of you.
Take a right onto Cooper St and a quick left into the parking lot.
Park out front and make your way to the auditorium which is around to the right side of the building near the large flag pole in the circle.

The AHS address is 760 Cooper St, Agawam MA 01001
