Re: USF Robotics Invitational in Tampa

here is my question, how does the invitational work.

i might be bringing up to THREE teams, im not confirming this, but i'll TRY

1402
1694
(New Semonile high School Team)

I'll talk to 945 as well

Do you mind making your question a bit more clear?

Brian has provided us with all the information needed for the Invitational (how to register, what is going to be happening, times/dates).

Oh also, Team 1402 doesn't exist anymore. Even if there are some members left from 1402, they don't have a robot from 2007, I would suggest asking veteran teams to let "1402" borrow practice bots and the same goes for your new school.

Please discuss about the offseason and let the committee know if your team will be able to make it after you discuss it with your team.

Last time I checked Nawaid, 1694 was short some drive team members in ATL.
Keep in mind I'm a graduating senior and won't be able to help you out with that predicament any longer, also you are no longer able to do anything but coach, seeing as that you are graduating also. Please if you are looking to ask all these teams to participate make sure that they have fully working robots and a full drive team.

Re: USF Robotics Invitational in Tampa

1592 is definitely interested in attended. nothing better for rookie students and mentors to see how a real competition works and how much fun it is. Right now our new people have to wait until March to see an actual competition, and until then all they see is hard work of fund raising and building a robot. This is a great team booster opportunity.

How many teams are you planning on being able to attend the event?

P.S. We will have a full drive team/pit crew available to compete. I am going to be a senior next year (+ this is my third and hopefully forth year as base driver) and we will have a new arm oporator who was our back-up this past year, and our pit will include experienced/new students, alumni, and mentors. If anyone needs any help in the pit with anything we have plenty of people willing to help.

I believe that USF Athletics provides free transportation to Raymond James Stadium and back to USF. If you have to drive it is approximately 15-30 minutes away from the campus.

tickets are available here:

wouldn't you rather go see the bulls for the 3rd year (or is it the 4th? i lose track) beat UCF though? Dan, Mike, Matt, George? any takers? :)

actually i think Student Government provides the buses to go to the stadium. be careful if you want to ride them... I think they're only for USF students (not 100% sure), and there was a nightmare last time because they got filled up really early and never came back to pick up more students, so a lot of people who didnt come extra early were stranded. :/

And if you drive there and you don't want to to pay the $10 for parking and you dont mind walking, theres free parking across the intersection at an office complex.

hahaha.....that is good.....trainface the mascot, and that stadium.....the high school metal bleachers are a lovely touch, try not to run into steel beam in that forest down there near the concessions

dear UCF, get a real stadium, stop letting your student government buy hummers with A&S fees....use it toward buying SEATS, don't get me wrong bleachers are very comfortable for the first 20 minutes of a 4 hour game.

dear dan, learn subtly, you aren't even making reference to FIRST anymore when you are dogging this awesome university....even with that stadium you still lost, "we put a scare into em and came close to winning," oooOOOooo.....

see ya in a week or so :p

Real fans don't sit down. We also stay in those metal bleachers even if it is lightning. Forget Trainface...UCF is 2007 National Champions (in cheerleading)

Less than a week until the event and we're busy collecting supplies for the optional backpack donation. Since teams are invited to "add something special to the pack" (like a button, letter, etc.), I was wondering if anyone had gotten creative. We're including a MARS 2007 year-in-review DVD and a LGM (little green man inflatable).

how many backpacks are there to be filled? we might be able to get something together by Friday.

Pat Arnold 25-09-2007 19:29

Re: USF Robotics Invitational in Tampa

I was referring in my earlier post to the optional backpack donation mentioned on the Tempest N' Tampa registration form:
Quote:

C. Entry Fees (FRC only):
1. Registration (on or before September 14th): $300.
2. Optional donation program: One Filled Back-Pack for an elementary school student collected at the event. This very successful school sponsorship program is something that we admired and wished to continue in our area. Team 79 has adopted the Clearwater Intermediate School; a special needs school in Pinellas County. The donated back packs will be presented to the school along with other collected school supplies at the competition. Materials to include: Small Backpack, 1 pair scissors, 3 pocket folders, 1 box of 24 crayons, 3 glue sticks, 1 ruler with inches and centimeters, 1 package pencils, 2 large erasers, 2 black pens, 2 red pens, 2 packages loose leaf notebook paper, 1 school supply box, 1 package colored pencils, 1 package washable markers, 2 packages tissues, 3 spiral notebooks. Teams are also encouraged to add something special to the pack such as a team button, good luck card, or letter to the student.
I'm sure as many school supplies as teams want to donate will be welcome.

BLCamp 26-09-2007 13:52

Re: USF Robotics Invitational in Tampa

Glad to hear some teams will be taking part in the back-pack donation to Clearwater Intermediate School. It will be a welcome addition to the school supplies we have already raised for them this year.

We have a great turnout expect, and being only 2 days away, I'm starting to get excited. Below is a list of the teams that have registered so far. There are a couple that I have not included that are tenative. In addition we have about 15 FLL teams competing and 6 FTC teams.

79 - Krunch
108 - SigmaC@ts
179 - Children of the Swamp
233 - The Pink Team
744 - Shark Attack
801 - Horsepower
1029 - Wolvcat Robotics
1251 - Tech Tigers
1345 - Platinum Dragons
1368 - Countryside HS
1369 - Minotaurs
1390 - WELETHEDAWGSOUT
1523 - MARS Robotics
1543 - Riddler's Revolution
1592 - Bionic Tigers
1842 - Twisted EGO
1902 - Exploding Bacon
2152 - Team Raptor

As part of the Friday night activities, we're encouraging teams to bring their x-Box 360's to connect to a LAN party. We have 6 high-res monitors available and are hoping to run a few tourneys for everyone's entertainment. So if you have an xbox, bring it along with any controllers and cables.

See you all in two days!

Friday night there will be time for at least 4 practice matches. In reality, with teams arriving at various times, I believe the field will be available to use however often you like. On Saturday, our target is to have 7 qualifying matches per team. We will play with the match list generator on Friday evening to see if we can squeze it to 8, but no promises.

I'm wondering about traffic, since the USF / West Virginia game is tonight also and it's supposed to be sold out. Looks like Raymond James Stadium is far enough away that parking won't be an issue, but close enough that driving in from out of town may be affected.

On behalf of Team 1592, I would like to thank Teams 233, and 744 for picking us to apart of their alliance. To Teams 1251, 1902, 1369, you guys played a tough set of matches. One of the best finals matches I’ve been in/seen in a long time. always makes things a bit more interesting when there are 4 matches instead of the usual 3.

Also we’d like to thank 79 and USF for sponsoring this great event. And also thank you to all of the volunteers that helped make TNT possible. We had a great time and can’t wait to come back next year.

1 more thing… is there an archive of the matches from TNT or mainly the finals? I really want to see what was taking place during the matches. Being on the field I only got to really see what our bot was doing and didn’t see the entire match.

TNT was a BLAST. (no pun intended) Special thanks to Brian Camp, KRUNCH, and everyone who volunteered. Even more thanks to the teams who came too! :) We wouldn't have had anything to do without you.

This event has helped me realize that theres no way I can just omit robotics from my life. I've been doing this for years, and being away from my home team to go to college is no excuse to not get involved. So, as long as it doesn't kill me I'll keep volunteering and helping out. :) There's nothing like FIRST robotics. The atmosphere is friendly and fun; the people are open and helpful and wonderful. This is a wonderful trend that has every right to continue and flourish. :)

So... who's up for coming again next year? :D

I definatly think that givin enough time, and with some more teams this could be one of the best off season events. I thought that the lock in was a very good idea and seemed to keep everyone entertained. Plus those final matches were the most exiting matches i've ever driven. :D :yikes: :D

I definitely had a great time at TNT this weekend. Despite not doing so well competitively, I still had a blast.

The lock-in was an awesome plus to the event. Human Rack N' Roll was my favorite of the night. Sleep? HA!

Congrats to the winning alliance. I was sitting in the stands with 1902 and I could feel all of the anxiety and excitement during through finals even though we didn't even make it to elims.

I've uploaded most of the matches from Human Rack & Roll; more should be up in a few hours or tomorrow:
Match 1
Match 2

Ugh, finally ruined my 108 post count. I could only resist ChiefDelphi for so long :/

I agree with Noelle!
108 had a blast!

And personally, I wish I would have stayed at the dome friday night! LOL
I had so such fun with the other refs!!!! I'm so glad I got the chance to be a referee. It was a lot of fun! I am pretty sure that the other volunteers wish it didn't end but man, was it exhasting! LOL
Still, I am proud of and for all and any teams that came to Tempest in Tampa. I want to congratulate all of them, and kudos to 233, 744, and 1592 for winning.

Let's hope next year gets a bigger turn out! XD

By the way Brian, awesome trophies!

Team 1523 almost didn't make the event; thank goodness we were able to be part of the inauguration of this amazing off-season event.

Enough can't be said in praise of the TNT staff, volunteers & sponsors (and with one being Hooters you knew this invitational just had to be fun!). From the tour of USF engineering/robotics labs, to 1am gaming, to sleeping on the rubber arena floor, to the efficiently run matches/competition; all aspects of Tempest 'N' Tampa were well done. Thanks for the fun!

MARS appreciated the chance to play withTeams 179 & 79 in the quarterfinals. Congratulations to the 1st ever TNT winners; the "Pink, Bionic Sharks". Can't wait to attend again next year.

So,......was that the reason you folks shipped your robot to Florida?
If you folks ever did a Florida regional next year, that would be pretty intense with all of the other great robots year after year there.
We just got our robot back THIS afternoon and we just finished unpacking it.

Partially. Assuming we get into IRI they're gonna haul it up there in their trailer for us, and then back, if we decide to go to Tampa.

And so Mike could play with the bot ;)

Cory,
Once again, you make all the Hawaii teams so envious. A Poof-Pink-RAWC collaboration is just way too scary. If you folks DO decide to, I think a powdercoated partially PINK and BLUE robot with chrome wheels would be crazy beautiful.

1251 will be there.

This was definitely one of the best events we attended last year.

1592 will surely be there. Unfortunately I will probably not be able to attend since I will be up in Tallahassee at FSU, but if some miracle happens i will try to show up. TNT was by far the best off-season even we went to last year and we can't wait to go back.

Hey, SO who's excited about TNT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ??!??!??!?!??!?!

It was freaking amazing last year, my teammates and I have been dying to go back since we left last year.

We need to get more people to go....the website looks like there are only a few teams going, we need to let other Florida teams know how amazing it is and that it's going on!

I second what ductape dude said. 1251 is also fired up about getting to Tampa giving the 8 wd one last run. Defintely will be glad to see our out of state friends 254 and 832 Oscar at the event. So Wendy is there any plans for night activities yet? Chase the Pig around the field, Halo, Guitar hero and all that good stuff. Defintey can not wait to go into overdrive in the sundome.

We have some fun stuff up our sleeves. Hadnt thought about chase the pig.....but that could be fun. Or...launch the pig...... A Wii might be a good addition this year along with Rock Band.

Are there plans to play Human Overdrive? It was pretty hilarious watching the "robots" roam around the rack last year.
