Re: Prayers for super mentor

I didn't get the chance to know him all that well, but he has taught me much when we started working on the robot. I have learned as much from him on a few specific skills that I hope to master and use to benefit the team. As far as I'm concerned, Jerry is still teaching me through what he has taught the rest of our mentors, and I hope that I can do the same to spread what Jerry has taught us all.
Thank you Jerry, for all of what you have done.
Seth Cook

EDIT:Thank you all very much for your support.

Re: Prayers for super mentor

Jerry Smyth update.

I just got this from Al Thorn:

I just wanted to let you know that they moved Jerry to the hospice unit at
Huntington Hospital last night. He is apparently starting to not make
sense with his communication.

Also we have set up a Blog on our website. It's under the 'General' forum tab.
If you have ever met him and have an anecdote, please enter it here. We will compile them and give them to him.
Website is: http://www.huntingtonrobotics.org/

Thanks to all that have responded so far.

I can't even begin to imagine what you guys and gals are going through. While I know they must be difficult, thank you for the updates. I'm sure the thoughts and prayers of 1529, all Indiana teams, and the entire FRC community is with the members of 1501 and their families.

Wayne and Team 1501:
I just checked into the website, looking for the blog, and read Larry's post about Mr. Smyth's passing last night at 9 p.m.
I'm very sorry to hear this.
My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Smyth's family and with all of you during this sad and difficult time.
Jane

EDIT: I just got off the phone with Al Thorn. He says that someone will post the details and information as soon as they can. They thank everyone for their prayers and thoughts during this time.

Jane,

Yes, Jerry passed last night, everyone is so sad right now. I dunno what to say other than speak to him by prayer and hope he hears me and know that he has went home to be with our Lord and Savior.

Edit: When I get more information, I will post it. Don't have it just yet.

Not much more to be said, but please keep Jerry in your prayers and thank you all for the support you have given, it means very much to us.

Here they talked of revolution, here it was they lit the flame, here they sang about tomorrow, but tomorrow never came.
From the table in the corner, they could see a world reborn, and they rose with voices ringing, and I can hear them now!
The very words that they had sung became their last Communion on the lowly barricade…at dawn…
Oh my friends, my friends forgive me, that I live and you are gone. There's a grief that can't be spoken…there's a pain goes on and on.
Phantom faces at the window, phantom shadows on the floor, empty chairs at empty tables, where my friends will meet no more.
Oh my friends, my friends, don't ask me what your sacrifice was for! Empty chairs at empty tables, where my friends will sing no more...

Be at peace, Mr. Smyth, for there are on this earth people who would have followed you to the ends of the world. The ghosts of the barricade honor you.

P.S.: I apologize if these messages for the ones who have passed away seem melodramatic. The quote is from the musical Les Miserables, and it pretty much says all that can be said better than anything I can come up with. Please accept my sympathy for the losses of two (from what I've heard: I had never met them when they yet lived) truly great men, Mr. Mike Wade and Mr. Jerry Smyth.
