Prayers for super mentor
 
Jerry Smyth, our monocoque mentor, is in bad health.
He fought a bout of cancer and won but his medication made him sick. He had what appeared to be a stroke but nothing was found with the MRI so it was thought to be a reaction with his meds.
His latest battle is with Bells Palsy. He was doing pretty well but I was told today that he is in bad shape. They don't no if it's the palsy or what.
So if the FIRST community could take a moment and pray for him, I think it will help.

My heart goes out to Jerry, his family and friends, as well as team members of 1501.

Tell Jerry are thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. I hope he gets well soon. He is an amazing man and a tough fighter. I hope he can come to IRI.

Thank you all for your guys support. Jerry has been a fantastic mentor and I'm just so proud that how much he has taught me and the other students of 1501 and that we can show other teams about are designs. And be a great FIRST team for his abilties and a mentor and a friend and a just plan great person.

Jerry is teaching us all. I didn't know that riveting could be so much ... um... fun.

I didn't get the chance to know him all that well, but he has taught me much when we started working on the robot. I have learned as much from him on a few specific skills that I hope to master and use to benefit the team. As far as I'm concerned, Jerry is still teaching me through what he has taught the rest of our mentors, and I hope that I can do the same to spread what Jerry has taught us all.

Jerry Smyth update.

I just got this from Al Thorn:

I just wanted to let you know that they moved Jerry to the hospice unit at
Huntington Hospital last night. He is apparently starting to not make
sense with his communication.

Also we have set up a Blog on our website. It's under the 'General' forum tab.
If you have ever met him and have an anecdote, please enter it here. We will compile them and give them to him.

I can't even begin to imagine what you guys and gals are going through. While I know they must be difficult, thank you for the updates. I'm sure the thoughts and prayers of 1529, all Indiana teams, and the entire FRC community is with the members of 1501 and their families.

I just checked into the website, looking for the blog, and read Larry's post about Mr. Smyth's passing last night at 9 p.m.
I'm very sorry to hear this.
My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Smyth's family and with all of you during this sad and difficult time.

Yes, Jerry passed last night, everyone is so sad right now. I dunno what to say other than speak to him by prayer and hope he hears me and know that he has went home to be with our Lord and Savior.

P.S.: I apologize if these messages for the ones who have passed away seem melodramatic. The quote is from the musical Les Miserables, and it pretty much says all that can be said better than anything I can come up with. Please accept my sympathy for the losses of two (from what I've heard: I had never met them when they yet lived) truly great men, Mr. Mike Wade and Mr. Jerry Smyth.
