C.) Movies like Sholay (ooold school), Lagan, and Kal Ho Na Ho are left to represent Bollywood and India because they are good, and they are very good with British/European audiences, and are slowly growing among American audiences.
D.) 3 HOURS!!!!!! 3 WHOLE HOURS!!! That is the REQUIREMENT!! '
E.) Amita, Shahrukh, Ashwaria and Preity and others are why some people still see some of those movies.

The comment:
Only if you appreciate romance movies you would enjoy Bollywood (in its current state). For those of you that like sports, Lagaan was nominated for some best foreign film years ago. Honestly, I haven't seen a movie since Kal Ho Na Ho and my brother says I haven't missed anything so I'm not gonna waste my time. I'd rather Transformers.

Side Note:
If you would like to see a Bollywood film please consider seeing Lagaan ("Tax/Taxes") if you like sports or Kal Ho Na Ho ("Tomorrow May Or May Not Be") if you like romace/sad movies, or Sholay ("Flames") if you like action and humor.

Since I grew up watching Bollywood movies I know them pretty well although i have stopped watching the recent films. I agree that Lagan was very good especially for a Bollywood movie. There are obvious good movies that come out every so often but I must say that from what I have seen before most Bollywood movies have a reoccurring theme and sometimes plot. This gets boring after a while

B.) Several Indian friends of ours have said that they would not go see a Bollywood movie themselves.
C.) The leading female role in JBJ was a British woman, and there were many references to France, Britain, and the US (Hollywood)
D.) JBJ was approximately 2.5 hours - fairly long.
E.) We plan to see Chak De India next!

Wow.. I asked my mom and brother and they said that movie is good...I might have to see this one.... As for the A-E stuff...those were my points about bollywood and my rant...Anyways I have only seen like 5-10 movies in the past 10 years and you said 2.5 hours?? ... seems fairly short! :) You've gotten me interested...And thats rare....

I just got back a little while ago from seeing Ratatouille.
To add to what Pete said, I think it is about making choices and figuring out who you are in this world. And the cream in the soup was yummy.

Gonna go out and see Sunshine tonight.
I cannot beleive Fox Searchlight is trying desperately to destroy thier own movies by unleashing major spoilers on Youtube and Rotten Tomatoes.
Somebody made them really angry to do this!

Well this is a bit late, but here are my faves so far, etc.

I frequently visit Apple Trailers, so have gotten to see some great trailers before they appeared available in the movies - very good site if you want to plan for movies to see. I was gone for a big chunk of summer without movies, so I did miss a lot of stuff unfortunately.

Movies I've enjoyed immensely:
Transformers
Harry Potter 5

Movies I really want to see:
Bourne Ultimatum
Sunshine
Moliere
Stardust (Not sure how this one's going to be - awesome trailer, but is getting attacked by critics)
The 11th Hour
War (C'mon, Jet Li is great... :) )

Best movie of the year!
Intense, smart and even poignant.
Well acted, written and directed.
Now I'm not just perplexed by what Fox Searchlight has done to this movie. I'm outright angry. This movie deserves much better than what it's getting from it's studio. Now thanks to Fox Searchlight there is no way this movie even has a chance. I mean it wasn't going to eat into the Harry Potter crowd or anything (too relentless and talky for that) but it would have had a better chance to find a bigger audiance. Danny Boyle should sue!

Sicko was by far one of the best movies of the summer.

Today, I saw Chak De! India. I thought that it was a very good movie. It had a lot of action in that it was a sports movie revolving around the women's field hockey team. It was not your traditional Bollywood movie in that there were not too many songs/dances. When songs were played, it was as background music or to show a video montage.

All in all, I thought it was a very, very good movie, especially if you enjoy sports movies!
