You know what it was, I've been keeping an eye on this thread but it completely slipped my mind. So obviously I came home from work yesterday morning and I fell asleep. I woke up and religiously checked CD only to realize that I was suppose to be at BE =(.

On a happier note I'm glad to hear that things were smooth. The one chance I get to be in charge of something and I forget.

There's always next year =).

So how did you guys keep up with the tubes =), were there many popped tubes like at Champs or Monty? =) Details Details

Liz, Penn anyone lol

I'm eating some of the steak right now with some rice and bean and lemonade while I'm watching the Pats/Colts game.

I still haven't completely realized that 1923 won. This is not something we're used to, so it's honestly a bit of a shock.

Thanks to all the volunteers for doing what you do, BE definitely couldn't have run as well without you.

Thanks to 1626, 25, and 222, you guys were fantastic alliance partners.

888, 2888, 555, 869-- You were great competitors. To steal from that good ol' playbook of sports, good game.

Also, a special thanks to (see custom title) "IDK, my BFF" Michelle Celio for being 1923's cheering section.

All in all, an awesome event. Great robots, great people...interesting sundaes...I've never missed a single Brunswick Eruption, and I don't plan on ever doing so.

:)

I just wanted to thank all of the teams who contributed to our toy drive. It was a great success. Congratulations to Teams 869 and 1211 for winning the toy drive tikis. All donations were greatly appreciated and will be donated to the Toys for Tots foundation. Thanks for making a child's holiday a little bit brighter.

BE was a lot of fun! It was my first event without my team, not to mention the longest I've ever driven. Definitely worth the drive.

I took ~1400 photos over the course of the day. The best ones I just uploaded to Flickr (it took 3.5 hours!:ahh:) in their original size and resolution. They can be found here. Most look best at a larger size, so I recommend checking some out at the "Large" size. There will probably be more up tomorrow after I get back to school and do some hardcore studying.

Congrats to 1923, 1626, 222, and 25! Also congrats to 1089 for winning that intense Evil Sundae eating contest.

First of all I would like to say thanks to team 1626, 25 and 1923 for picking us as alliance partners. I know our performance in the practice rounds was almost horrible. Secondly I have to thank my high school students for working so hard through the previous week and the qualification rounds. For those who had not come through our pit, our robot was pretty much constructed in 6 days with some borrowed parts from our 07 competition bot. The purpose of this 6 day build was to test out some 80/20 quick frame and the nylon connectors it uses for strength and durability. Look for our findings sometime after November 10th because we are going to Ramp Riot and the robot will have two full competitions under its belt. I will tell you that the weight savings and what we saw the robot take at BE has already convinced 222 to take a new direction in robot building for the 2008 season.

So again after my ramblings thank you to our alliance partners, my team mates and also all the volunteers that made BE possible. Stop by and take a look at Ramp Riot We will be glad to talk about the quick frame we used.

Sweet pictures. I found that you took a great one of our drive team. It is image HH1Y0876. I am the guy in the middle with the yellow ballistics goggles.

In the full sized picture you can see some of our doodles on the robot. You must have an amazing telescopic lens, or you must have been right on top of us.

Thanks! I was pretty much on top of you guys. I was standing as close as possible to the field when teams were coming off. The lens did help, though.

Hey All,

Just wanted to drop a line and say us Crazy Canucks from Canada (oo, alliteration) had a great time! Wayne, you did an outstanding job with organizing and your students were incredibly friendly and helpful. Thanks for the TIKI statue, it is quite the conversation piece as it sits among the more... bland trophies.

I must say an enormous thank you to Sean and Sheri (I hope I spelled their names right). They took us out of their way to give us a true "New Jersey" experience at Harold's Deli. While the wait was long, it was well worth it when that 50 pound pastrami/corned beef sandwich hit the table. You guys were very generous in giving us your time and company.

Thanks again and we look forward to revisiting North Brunswick, New Jersey next year!

I finally uploaded the pictures that my step-mom took. Because of aperture, iso and speed being used, some of the pictures are terribly out of focus and others are badly lit, but I really didn't have time to sort through them before uploading. Anyway, it is mostly our team, oddly there are a bunch of me, and some random shots of other teams and their robots. (There is a really good one of Team 75)

Well, I just finished digitizing all of my tapes from North Brunswick. It was a great event and everyone did a great job. It feels great to finally see a competition after several months with no FRC. Congratulations to teams 1626,25,1923,and 222. You guys did an amazing job. Despite this, I was, however, a bit surprised about a calling made in one of the matches.

I was watching the final match of the day and it seems that the referees handled the penalties wrong. This corresponds to rule <R25>. To my knowledge, being in the opposing alliance's home-zone at the start of the end-game is a 10 point penalty. Another 10 point penalty is assessed for every five seconds of sitting in the opposing alliance home-zone after the initial penalty. The video that I have shows team 1923 in the home-zone for eight seconds after the start of the end-game. This means that the red alliance would incur an additional 10-point penalty. I am not sure if this would change the out come of the match, but it is something that was over looked in the heat of the moment.

I was also a bit surprised at the previous match (the final one was a replay of this match). During this match team 25 repeatedly rammed the player station. While there is the argument that they were trying to knock the tubes down so they could pick them up, and I realize that this is the only way some teams can pick up tubes, like team 1626, team 25 never once picked up any of these tubes. At one point they rammed something which disabled something on the blue alliance causing the match to be replayed. I am not sure if this would violate rule <R35>.

At any rate, I was just curious to see if anybody else noticed this. Maybe this is just splitting hairs, but what do you guys think?

In the final match, I distinctly remember the 25/222/1626/1923 alliance having the advantage on the rack, enough to overcome the penalties even with two endzone penalties under <G25>. (<R25> is a robot rule.) I remember remarking that had 1923 stayed in about three seconds longer, it would've gone to a rubber match. Penalties are a disincentive, but not defending against 869 with ramps deployed carries an even worse disincentive.

There could be many reasons why 25 decided not to take tubes in any given match; perhaps their gripper developed issues in the process of hitting the wall, perhaps their priorities shifted in the match due to opponent or partner actions, or perhaps their drivers that match just couldn't drive. (I have coached about 11 different drivers over the years on varying fields and teams; some have it, some don't.)

If something came loose on the field to such a degree that a robot lost signal, it would be a field fault and be grounds for a restart of the match. If the field control system experienced no issues, then the problem is with the team. If 25's robot reached over the wall, unscrewed the radio or competition cable, and then went back in bounds...then I want video. But you'd have a hard time convincing me that G35 is an issue here. If they were causing significant damage to the field, it could instead fall under G34. I quote:

and re-inspection, before the ROBOT will be allowed to compete in subsequent matches.

Neither recourse available to the head referee under G34 really does much in this case.

I would love to see that...

While 25 did hit the wall kind of hard, it was not the first time they used that technique to get tubes onto the floor - I first saw it used in Trenton early this year. One might argue that they hit the wall a bit hard, but I can't say or even believe that they intended to knock the wall-warts out of their sockets to disable part of the field. Disingenious if on purpose, since they were clearly winning and a match reset was not in their best interest.

I can imagine that their line of sight was difficult at best, and just a fraction of a second too long on the throttle is all it took.

I have never been a referee, but I can imagine that some penalties don't get called because they are not noticed. The refs try their best, but are not perfect.

I don't think that even if blue had won that game the overall outcome would have been any different. It is simply that 25 has a very good robot and drivers. Combined with 1626, they were unstoppable (No disrespect to the other alliance members)

Don
