Re: pic: 25's drive module
I keep ogling this drive system, and have been really wondering how the internals work on this thing. Is there any chance I could get my grubby little paws on the CAD for this thing? I have and use both Inventor and Solidworks. I'd love to see inside the design of a team that I've looked up to.

Re: pic: 25's drive module
The Behind the Design book has a CAD drawing of our drive system. If you search this forum, you will find a lot of information on how it works. If you have anymore questions though, feel free to ask here or contact me.

What wheels does your team use?

Any idea how much that module (as pictured) weighed?
I'm now working with Inventor to try and recreate this, so I can get a better picture on what it would work like with gears, as I've always used chain. |

Nice, I like the large gears. Where do you find such large gears and how much do they cost?
Thanks, Travis |

Am I seeing bronze gears (the golden color ones)? Why would you choose these gears over steel gears.
Thanks, Travis |

Could someone please elaborate on how the servo braking system works?
Thanks |

they use a spring to push the pin into the gear...this way, there is minimal side load on the gear when it is not exactly lined up and they are trying to engage their brakes. simple design, but very effective. |
