Thank you poem at MOE picnic
Below is a poem that was written by Andrea Agra (365 team co-captain who is on her way to RPI next year). She read it to the mentors at our end-of-year picnic. It touched a lot of us so I thought I would share it with everyone.
(To give proper credit, she adapted this from a Girl Scout poem). Also check out the pic below of our guest of honor at our picnic. Yes, we traditionally have a pig roast. http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/photos/28742 THE GREEN ANGEL There is a group of living angels, Who give and give each year These incredibly gifted people Are known as volunteers. Some ask "Why do you do it?" "You mean it doesn't pay a dime?" "Why, you'd have to be crazy To give away all that time!" But volunteers know without a doubt That kids need to know we care So if for no other reason They come--and give--and share. I dreamed I went to Heaven And saw among the dead Angels dressed in green A gear and halo ‘round their heads. And they looked kind of funny Midst all the glaring white. The Others asked them jealously What gave them such a right. They were Miracle Workerz, mentors They lay not hold to fame, But being such a person Means more than just a name. Their jobs on earth were many; Praise and thanks were few, They did more work in one day Then ten people ought to do. They guided us and gave us The skills and tools we will need the experience, the practice, The know how and the knowledge to succeed. The students here do a lot The mentors do even more And we move on, while they stay For whatever is in store We are all Miracle Workerz, And our mentors even more so Opening doors and giving keys To students as they go We have halos on our shirts They have halos on their heads They are our Green Angels We follow in their stead. |
