IRI Webhug?

Is anyone interested in some sort of IRI Webhug like Atlanta? I know a lot of people from CD are going to IRI and it would be a great chance to meet people you didn't get to see at Atlanta (or to see them again). If somebody from Indy could give us a location to have it (since I've never been to Indy) and/or a good time it would be helpful to get this thing set up it would be appreciated. If anybody has any time suggestions it would be helpful to get this thing set up.

How about outside of the aux. gym doors, at lunch on Friday.

That's not a good time. Opening ceremonies start at 10:30, Q matches start at 11, and there is no lunch break.

Dinner starts at 5:30pm, Q matches end at 6pm, and the talent show starts at 7pm.

Some time between 6 and 7pm on Friday would be better.

Would anybody object to the hug being around 6:15 on Friday, in front of the auxiliary gym doors? If not, I think we may have a time and date.

Mike, if you and the CD crew would like to take over this event please feel free. You have more experience and a success rate! :)

A webhug should be fun, it will let people meet up with those they missed at the champs.

at least now I'm a little more used to people coming up to me saying,
"hey rawrimapanda?" (i still get a kick out of hearing that though :D )

You know, since there is no lunch break, we could always set the fire alarm off in the middle of the mentor's round, then web hug!

As far as I was aware, they cut the mentor's rounds this year.

For the webhug, I suggest making a little nametag similar to . I wore one to Atlanta and it was very helpful when it came to people recognizing me.

Also thanks for putting this event on the SMS reminder Brandon!

Pavan.

If anyone wants me to, I can make a sticker like the one that he has above for you, just there are conditions:
1) You MUST go so I don't waist ink on someone who doesn't go. If something comes up such as sickness/missed flight or what ever, that's ok. I won't print them until the night before so get to me if you know you can't make it.
2) You must find me to get it as I will not go around to pits searching for people. I should be in the TechnoKat's pit most of the time, but if not just ask for me and they can point you to me.

Just PM me if you want one or if you have any questions.

P.S. They are decent size all according to your picture and avatar.

EDIT: Congrats Pavan on 700 posts!

Ok so I went to see how much sticker paper I have left and I figured out that I have about half of it gone. Depending on what your Avatar, WAI Pic, and the text by it's size is, I can fit about 6-7 on a page. So I am making the current cut off at 25 as I think that is as far as my paper will get me, but if I have more room after 25, I will post as say so. Please remember to PM me as it sends me an email and gets my attention to make one for you.

There is a "Who Am I?" picture and there is an avatar. They are two different things. You will have to upload the COW as an avatar, and upload the picture of yourself to CD-Media and tag it "Who Am I?". For more information, please click here.

I don't know about two avatars, but to get one, go to "user cp" and on the left side click "Edit Avatar." I can't wait to see the cow!! :p

I'll take one of those nice name tags if you've still got room. If you could put David instead of my username that would be great too but I'll take whatever you can do.

Schnabel 19-07-2007 10:19

Re: IRI Webhug?

Well the point of the name tag is so when CD'ers see it, they will recognize who you are since they may not be able to tell. I'll give you one, but it will just be your regular user name. Since you have your normal name under your user name though, you should be fine.

Yeah, Eric was back with the Dean Simmons and the Kamens band, coordinating the lyrics and picture presentation files when we both realized that we missed the beginning of the webhug. Time flies when you're having IRI.

Re: IRI Webhug?

There is about a 99% chance that it will stay at Lawrence North for a few years, so let's defiantly do it in the same spot again next year. Next year let's also have the mc announce it so that everyone will know it is going on and let's make it a more convenient time such as right before the matches start or during practice matches.

Convenient for those that don't leave the extreme western side of IL at 4:30AM the morning of, get lost in Indy, and then forget that Indiana is completely EST?

It's all cool, though. I'll do my best to be there. (I've missed 2 of 3 Webhugs I've ever had the chance to attend.)

BTW, I walked past the concessions probably 15 times before I decided I was just going to eat [good food].

I think we should do it right before the matches start. It seems most convinient to me.

Re: IRI Webhug?

You might lose a bit of your volunteer contingent if you do it too close to the beginning of actual matches - also, people fixing their robots in the morning might not be able to come.

Just a thought - I noticed that a lot of people showed up by 6:30 PM and after we announced it kinda (i.e. Mike Martus yelling across that lobby area). Maybe if it was more publicized, there would be more attendance?

GaryVoshol 24-07-2007 22:14

Re: IRI Webhug?

No offense, but I was headed toward the line to eat. Timing was shorter than expected between the end of the last match (a makeup) and the beginning of the talent show.

The IRI Organizing Committee put together the neatest little booklet. It had everything in it. Perhaps the Webhug information could be included in the booklet next year.

Maybe a team that will be attending the '08 IRI could volunteer to develop an advertising campaign for the Webhug that would remind folks in a fun way to attend, obtaining final approval for their campaign idea from the IRI Organizing Committee.

Just a thought.
