Beta version of the Segway
 

I found this exclusive look at the beta version of the Segway, before the design was finalized and put into production.


I actually saw it on Digg and thought everyone would get a kick out of it.

Come visit me in Austin. I'll take you to the family store, Callahans, and you can ride for free. (You might have to help move some feed bags or boots or something, but you could eventually grab a ride.) :D

I just got my Segway Beta, but I think I am going to take it back. When I got on it I leaned forward and it tipped over and I fell on my face. Maybe the gyro is off.

Did you charge the batteries? It doesn't work with dead batteries....:p

One day a long time ago, a young Dean Kamen - already with engineer tendencies - saw other kids on the playground riding handcarts (and occasionally falling over). He decided that one day, he would one-up them with a handcart that wouldn't fall over.

When I got mine, I couldn't really turn with it =/ wonder what the problem is......;)

And remember kids, the helmet the guy is wearing in that pic isn't just a good idea... in some states, it's the law!

And also a really good idea even if it's not the law. Trust me. ;)
