Interesting to see the East vs. West difference.

Wow, I never really thought about the fact that alot of the regionals are in the northeast.

Where's Hawaii?

Given the fact that this is a static image of a customized map, and couple that with the hint at TBA, I'm going to guess that it's a snapshot of a new TBA feature. I'm hard pressed to imagine that Greg completely forgot about Hawaii, Brazil and Israel...

Yup, but I think that is just a matter of time. :)

huh, it's almost as if the regional locations are somehow related to the population density of the US....

Just maybe...... haha but you also have to think that FIRST was started in the northeast so it only makes sence that there would be more there.

Two interesting maps. Superposition suggests possible growth targets for FIRST: North Carolina, Tennessee, a second regional in Texas (San Antonio or Dallas?), Salt Lake City, maybe Boise, perhaps Albuquerque, and so on ... many places have enough people -- so as Jane says it is just a matter of time.:)

You are right that many locations have the population density to support future regional competitions. However, the most important consideration is not the density of the general population (OK, there are at least three ways that one can be misinterpreted... :) ), but the density of the team population. Boise, Salt Lake City, Knoxville, Albuquerque (why can't I say that without thinking of Wierd Al?), etc are all reasonably large population centers. But with only nine teams in Idaho, three in Utah, four in Tennessee, and three in New Mexico, it may be a while before it makes sense to put any regional competitions there.

Developing FLL and FTC programs, finding sponsors/developing partnerships, finding/building support within the education systems and with the politicians, money, then money, then money....then there's networking, that very very powerful aspect of the success of FRC teams - something I think many teams don't realize or tend to take for granted.

Development, innovation, commitment.
Those types of things - but it'll come, I have no doubt.
There are some awesome teams in these states just not large amounts of them.
