The Sept. 13 issue of the SCRRF Newsletter reports the following teams indicating they will be there:
Team 0294 Beach Cities Robotics co-host
Team 0330 BeachBots, co-host,
Team 0599 RoboDocs
Team 0980 Thunderbots
Team 0981 Fraizer Mountain Robotics
Team 1070 Royal Robotrons
Team 1138 Eagle Engineering
Team 1538 The Holy Cows
Team 1752 Stars]
Team 2029 Chadwick School

Teams that are still deciding
Team 0968 RAWC
Team 1515 MorTorq
Team 1678 Davis High

How many more teams have committed since Sept. 13??

This is a great opportunity to introduce new students, schools and sponsors to FIRST. We expect to play a lot of matches and allow our new drivers to get a workout. Maybe there'll be a couple of mentor rounds???

This is great news. Look forward to seeing all these robots this Saturday. Oh yeah, by the way, I am coming ;).

Currently we are scraping together the last few dollars of our entrance fee, but it looks like we will have it.

I wanted to see if there was any desire for us to bring our practice bot for a rookie team to drive/play with/potentially compete with? With enough notice (before early afternoon tomorrow) we could have it up and running.

Let us know if that is something that would be beneficial. Obviously we wouldnt be driving it ourselves and wouldnt be able to pay for the second entrance fee, but if it is something that people would like us to do (to add to the total number of teams, or just for the rookies to play with) we'd be happy to bring it.

Will it be 3 vs. 3 or 2 vs 2? What will finals be like?

I think that's a great idea.

Team 980 could bring last year's bot to give pre-rookies something to drive around, maybe play a little defense and get up on the ramp...

Due to the small number of teams, bring any robot you are willing to run. Just be sure you bring lots of batteries too! Remember, previous years batteries are legal. BeachBots might have their practice bot running too and I know 294 is planning to bring an experimental 'bot.

All I ask is that you be prepared to keep all robots entered running the entire event. (At least until Eliminations)

To answer David's question: Right now we are planning to run 2 v 2. If we ran 3 v 3 we would have to run teams with back to back matches every match. But if we get enough second robots we might change that.

Team 980's bringing last year's robot, but we're not going to have the shooter active (wouldn't want it to rain on the field)!

Maybe there'll be an opportunity for mentors to drive? We can always use a humbling experience in front of our students to prove how human we are...

Re: SCRRF Fall Classic Official Thread

I just wanted to send out a few Thank Yous

First to Team 294 and Team 330 for partnering to host the event. Team 330 has recently been blest with the use of a very large facility, but they are a small team. There is no way they could run their robot and host a competition without help.

The facility we used, while large, required a great deal of cleanup to get it ready for the competition. Teams 597 and 980 came and helped with getting the facility ready. Their presence and willingness to jump in were a great encouragement to me. The Hope Chapel leadership also asked me to convey their thanks for your helping with the rennovation project. It should be complete in time for the Pre-Ship Scrimmage.

Special thanks to NASA Ames for the loan of the field, Ken Leung and Krystine Throughman for driving it down to us (9 hours in a truck each way!) and Team 1538 for providing the plexiglas (and driving two hours each way to do so!). The WRRF control system worked great.

Team 1070 provided the music and Team 599 handled cueing and field re-set.

Individuals that deserve special recognition include:

Cindy of 294 and Richard and Dakota of 330 who together mopped most of the 20,000 sqft of the competition area the night before. This was a thankless job that much improved the environment.

Dave Drennon allowed us to use his personal sound system. Terry Wells handled the field control system. Jon Jack and Ken Leung acted as refs. LeRoy Nelson and Marni Hagar did scoring. Andrea Wagner made the awards and ran local publicity in addition to running 294. Eric and Yulia from 599 ran cueing and Reset respectively and did an excellent job.

A few numbers:

Ten teams were represented by 12 robots

We ran 2 practice matches, 27 Qualifying Matches and 6 Elimination matches betweem 9:30am and 4:03pm. Compared to a Regional this doesn't sound like much. However, each team took the field a minimum of 10 times. So they got a Regional's worth of play in a few hours.

The best part was locking the door to the building at 5:06pm with the field re-loaded on the truck and the room cleaned out. Thanks to all the people who helped with the teardown and re-packing. Nobody from Hope Chapel, which owns the building, really believed we would be gone before the 6pm service.

As we know, the control system was not entirely without incident,
these being problems that surfaced in the design of the system.
The WRRF would like to thank the SCRRF for giving it a workout,
the control system will be that much more bullet proof for the
Cal Games event as a result.

Regards,
Eugene

Hey it worked great while it lasted. The blue side functioned throughout the event and even working in a limited fashion it greatly simplified radio channel assignment. Once you figure out the bugs we might want to build one of our own, if you make the plans available.

I don't, I was too busy. :D

But I know that team 1515 was there with a full camera crew ( their robot smoked itself a day or two before so they weren't competing ) and 1138 also had somebody taking pictures. They are supposed to get some to me. Hopefully this will be a reminder to them!
