2007 NFL Pick-em: Week 1

Same game as last year.
Open to everyone.
Pick the winning team by copying the schedule and highlighting the winning team in some fashion (I normally put the winning team in bold).
If it is not clear what team you are picking, you will not get any points for that game.
Explanations are optional.
Picks are final as soon as the first game kicks-off.
Changes can be made up until the deadline, but keep them to a minimum. Think your picks through the first time.
Week 1 deadline = Thursday, September 6th, 8:30 PM EST

Thursday
New Orleans at Indianapolis

Sunday
Pittsburgh at Cleveland
Atlanta at Minnesota
Tennessee at Jacksonville
Kansas City at Houston

Carolina at St Louis

Re: 2007 NFL Pick-em: Week 1

Thursday
New Orleans at Indianapolis
2 great offenses. Home-field for the tie-breaker.

Sunday
Pittsburgh at Cleveland
Browns would be better if they had Quinn starting... but still not good enough to win.
Atlanta at Minnesota
Falcons are in for a long season.
Tennessee at Jacksonville
Madden Curse?
Kansas City at Houston
Houston might sneak up on some teams. Now if they could just improve that O-line...
Philadelphia at Green Bay
McNabb was playing like an MVP before his injury last year, expect him to do it again this year.
Carolina at St Louis
Rookie Jon Beason (1st round pick out of Miami) is a beast at LB, but so is Steven Jackson.
Miami at Washington
You think Miami would have learned from signing Daunte Culpepper not to go and get another fragile veteran quarterback.
New England at New York Jets
Super Bowl favorites (at the moment).
Denver at Buffalo
This ones for Darrent Williams.
Detroit at Oakland
Anyone remember Robert Gallery? That worked out didn't it?
Chicago at San Diego
Watch Rex throw away another season for the Bears.
Tampa Bay at Seattle
Jeff Garcia won't be able to help the Bucs out enough to win.
New York Giants at Dallas
Cowboys are talented on both sides of the ball. If the Defense plays as well as the Offense, watch out.

Monday
Baltimore at Cincinnati
Baltimore's aging D starts its decline this year.
Arizona at San Francisco
Cardinals are still working on their O-line and D. 49ers are ready to win now.

Thursday
New Orleans at Indianapolis
New Orleans is my Super Bowl pick...
Sunday
Pittsburgh at Cleveland
Oy vey, Cleveland Sucks...
Atlanta at Minnesota
Game of two bad teams...
Tennessee at Jacksonville
I'll probably be the only one to pick the Titans... but I have faith.
Kansas City at Houston
Houston will not get a winning season until 2011.
Philadelphia at Green Bay
Toss up?
Carolina at St Louis
I like the Rams this year...
Miami at Washington
Repeat Cleveland quote, but with Miami substituted.
New England at New York Jets
New England looks poised, again.
Denver at Buffalo
Jay Cutler... !!!
Detroit at Oakland
Both these teams stink, but you have to go with the lesser of the bads.
Chicago at San Diego
Chicago sucks... Chicago sucks... I hate Chicago... Rex Grossman is from the University of Florida, explains a lot. Start Griese and they still don't have a chance. Go LT!
Tampa Bay at Seattle
Meh..
New York Giants at Dallas
Meh...

Monday
Baltimore at Cincinnati
Arizona at San Francisco

Monday night is filled with terrible games now. Boring...

Re: 2007 NFL Pick-em: Week 1

Thursday
New Orleans at Indianapolis
I will pick the Colts at home, It is going to be a shoot out

Sunday
Pittsburgh at Cleveland
Look for Big Ben and the Steelers to kill the Browns.
Atlanta at Minnesota
Minnesota might have the best running game in football.
Tennessee at Jacksonville
Mojo and Fred Taylor are going to run wild against that paltry Tennessee defense
Kansas City at Houston
LJ is in big trouble, he rushed 8000000 times last year and I question his legs. Plus look out for Houston.
Philadelphia at Green Bay
If McNabb is healthy he is a major threat.
Carolina at St Louis
STL still has a pretty good offense, Carolina has Steve Smith
Miami at Washington
I think Washington will be a serious threat in that division.
New England at New York Jets
I think NE might just have the best offense in the league.
Denver at Buffalo
My dark horse in the AFC, look for them to win their division.
Detroit at Oakland
Oakland has a solid defense, Detroit can't win on the road, I will pick Oakland.
Chicago at San Diego
Chicago stinks of 6-10, San Diego stinks of Norv Turner, I will pick LT and Phil Rivers of Rex and Cedric.
Tampa Bay at Seattle
Seattle had a bad year last year, but they should bounce back.
New York Giants at Dallas
Eli on the road with no TIKI, I think I will take America's team.

Monday
Baltimore at Cincinnati
This is the best game of the week, Baltimore should definitly be better than there very good team last year, but as long as Carson Palmer, TJ Whoseyomama, and Ocho Cinco aren't the Bengals being arrested, they are the better team.
Arizona at San Francisco
The Niners are much better than people think, they are the best team in their division.

Re: 2007 NFL Pick-em: Week 1

Thursday
New Orleans at Indianapolis
Colts show they can still win in the Hoosier Dome (hey, I'm old-school.) BTW a 2008 Super Bowl team is playing in this game.

Sunday
Pittsburgh at Cleveland
Maybe next year this will be different....
Atlanta at Minnesota
It's still too early to make jokes.
Tennessee at Jacksonville
Jax will be a very good team this year, but they need a couple weeks to get started.
Kansas City at Houston
LJ is the most overrated player in the league. Their second best player is an old TE.
Philadelphia at Green Bay
I feel bad for Favre, I really do.
Carolina at St Louis
Upset pick of the week.
Miami at Washington
Wash WRs > Miami WRs
New England at New York Jets
If this game was in week 10, it would be too close to call.
Denver at Buffalo
Best D in the league.
Detroit at Oakland
Underrated D on the bay
Chicago at San Diego
A 2008 Super Bowl team is playing in this game.
Tampa Bay at Seattle
Hasselback gets his hassel back.
New York Giants at Dallas
The real star of that team is Terry Glenn.

Monday
Baltimore at Cincinnati
CJ gets his Ocho Cinco back.
Arizona at San Francisco
Two possible division champs a couple years from now.

Re: 2007 NFL Pick-em: Week 1

Ok now for my explinations

Thursday
New Orleans at Indianapolis
my superbowl pick right here. They are just tooooo good.
Sunday
Pittsburgh at Cleveland
I have little faith in these guys any more, plus i started to dislike them after the fixed superbowl they won
Atlanta at Minnesota
JOEY BALLGAME IS ATLANTAS SAVIOR!!!! yes i said it, i am a joey fan.
Tennessee at Jacksonville
i am sorry, i cant stand young, i hate that style of quarterback
Kansas City at Houston
i am a houston fan, plus i like schuab or how ever you spell his name, plus i think the quarterbackposition for KC is still too shakey for anything to go good for them, plus LJ is too worried about money to care about the game.
Philadelphia at Green Bay
I HATE PHILADELPHIA!!! with a passion so i will change my original pick from phili to GB
Carolina at St Louis
carolina will struggle the first couple of games, but they will get the hang of it soon, so for now im going to pick Steven Jackson and the rams
Miami at Washington
Miami will suprise some people this year, i like trent green and thier defence. i like thier defence so much i picked them in my offline fantasy league. and who is washington...i have no clue.
New England at New York Jets
oh come on. the jets are an up and comming team, but with pennington aging and with their ok at best defence, they will have no chance to beat Randy Moss and Tom Brady.
Denver at Buffalo
I love buffalo, but they are still having some troubles, they were one of the best defences a couple of years ago, but now that thye lost london fletcher, they are lacking again. J.P can throw the ball to Lee Evans, but will his o-line hold up to the rough and tough denver defence. Denver has one strong running offence. so expect that to be the main focus of their offence this year.
Detroit at Oakland
I am a detroit fan. what can i say. but in an unbiased opionion i still pick detroit. i think that they are more talented then oakland, even though i am a huge oakland fan as well. i think that russel will be the future of that team, i am not impressed with cullpepper at all so i think that he will be released sometime this season, mcnown is a never was so he will get smoked too. so exprect detroit to kill them with te passing game.
Chicago at San Diego
chicago......hahahaha hahahah haha hahahahaha haha hahahahah ahahahahhahaha hahahahahahaha..sorry i was too busy laughing at them because the are not very good. their offence is worse then the detroit lions pass defence during that game vs. indy last week. and they are playind my boys...SAN DIEGO. San Diego will crush.
Tampa Bay at Seattle
What happened to Seattle, after that superbowl loss to pit, wich i think that game was fixed to have the bus win in his last game in his home town, watch it again, some shady calls that game. they just kind of dissapeard from the game, they did decent last year, without alexander and hasselbeck for those games. but expet them to beat this lowley tampa team that will only be good because they have a decent defence.
New York Giants at Dallas
My boys Eli and Plaxico will smoke this team. I still have faith in eli. he wont ever be as good as his brother but his will do just fine against these boys.

Monday
Baltimore at Cincinnati
Palmer, Johnson, Johnson, Housemakldngfkgbdvk..haha..come on can you really think they will be stopped?
Arizona at San Francisco
san fran will do good things this year. very good things. watch for them. but arizona is on the come up.

Re: 2007 NFL Pick-em: Week 1

B]Thursday[/b]
New Orleans at Indianapolis-Too much lost on D for Indy to handle NO.

Sunday
Pittsburgh at Cleveland-No brainer
Atlanta at Minnesota-Best running game in the league? I don't think so. Top 10 at best. They should be able to handle an absolutely terrible Falcons team, even though they're pretty bad themselves.
Tennessee at Jacksonville-Would pick Tenn, but who is Young going to throw to?
Kansas City at Houston-Even if LJ isn't ready, even if their QB sucks, LJ will still run all over a bad Houston D.
Philadelphia at Green Bay-No brainer
Carolina at St Louis-The Rams are one of the top 5 offenses in the league, if not the top.
Miami at Washington-Could change if Cambell can't play.
New England at New York Jets-NE trounces the rebuilding Jets.
Denver at Buffalo-Travis Henry could run for close to 200 yards.
Detroit at Oakland-This week's "who the heck cares?" game. Both teams suck. Detroit has a better offense.
Chicago at San Diego-Norv Turner shouldnt be a downgrade. Schottenheimer was downright moronic at times. The offense SD has been running the last few years was instilled by Turner at the beginning anyways.
Tampa Bay at Seattle-Too much offense for TB to overcome
New York Giants at Dallas-NY has no Tiki. End of story. An always mediocre Eli now becomes worse.

Monday
Baltimore at Cincinnati-Baltimore's D is great, but so is Cincy's O. Baltimore only has a shot if McGahee can be productive from the start.
Arizona at San Francisco 2008 NFC West champions (You heard it here first ;)).

Pittsburgh at Cleveland - I'd pick the Browns if Quinn were starting. Frye is a bum. I predict he'll put up decent numbers but make 4 boneheaded mistakes to blow the game. I'm liking the Browns' O-line, though. I think they could surprise if the idiot QB doesn't blow the game each week.

Now I'll pick....

Thursday
New Orleans at Indianapolis
Go with the veteran home team who just knows how to win. This'll probably be the highest scoring game of the year!

Sunday
Pittsburgh at Cleveland
It doesn't matter who plays quarterback for Cleveland. They're not going to come close to beating Pittsburgh.
Atlanta at Minnesota
Atlanta comes out looking to prove everybody wrong.
Tennessee at Jacksonville
Garrad will make Jacksonville a very dangerous team this year!
Kansas City at Houston
KC's unsettled QB situation stunts Johnson's ability to get loose.
Philadelphia at Green Bay
McNabb is back. Farve is washed up.
Carolina at St Louis
The Panthers can play defense. Last I heard the Rams can't.
Miami at Washington
Miami is falling apart.
New England at New York Jets
The Jets steal one from New England at home.
Denver at Buffalo
Henry will get over 200 yards and three touchdowns against this sad defense.
Detroit at Oakland
Detroit isn't much but they are a hundred times better than the Raiders.
Chicago at San Diego
A possible Superbowl showdown with the home team taking the game.
Tampa Bay at Seattle
Seattle is not going to let TB come into their home and steal a game.
New York Giants at Dallas
Dallas rips New York a new one.

Monday
Baltimore at Cincinnati
So long as Cincy has that pourous defense of theirs I don't trust them to beat any playoff caliber team. Even if they're at home.
Arizona at San Francisco
All teams in the NFC West are the same. All right with nagging flaws. When in doubt take the home team.

Re: 2007 NFL Pick-em: Week 1

Thursday
New Orleans at Indianapolis
--Manning versus a suspect Saints defensive back. While I expect both teams to take a small step back this year, Colts win.

Sunday
Pittsburgh at Cleveland
-- While I think Tomlin will be a great coach, no one is talking about that in his only year as cordinator he led and awful pass defense.
Atlanta at Minnesota
-- I don't think Harrington has ever beaten the Vikings. That and the fact that its in Minnesota gives the Vikings a win, starting very long seasons for both teams.
Tennessee at Jacksonville
-- Does Young have any weapons?
Kansas City at Houston
-- I think both of these teams will struggle alot this year, but Chiefs win because they can run the ball.
Philadelphia at Green Bay
-- Green Bay has a chance at the playoffs, but eagles are still better
Carolina at St Louis
-- Besides Steve Smith who do the Panthers have on offense, while the Rams have Bulger, Jackson, and Holt
Miami at Washington
-- I think Camble will be much improved this year while Green is clearly past his prime
New England at New York Jets
Denver at Buffalo
Detroit at Oakland
Chicago at San Diego
Tampa Bay at Seattle
New York Giants at Dallas
Monday
Baltimore at Cincinnati
Arizona at San Francisco

Wow all my fantasy football teams are all a bunch of chokers (Drew Brees, this means you!!!) but at least I can pick winners in Week 1.....

I think raymaniac's score is just a wee bit off. I don't think anyone's that bad of a prognosticator!!!

(My score is actually 10) If Buffalo and Philly hadn't choked away their games on last second field goals, I'd have had 12 grrrrrr.

So you want credit for something your favorite team did? We can go all day with that point system... unless your favorite team is: Oakland, Kansas City, Cleveland, Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, or [insert your least favorite team here]. :D

.... Houston is my home team... Dallas was my home team.... Vikings and Broncos used to be my favorite teams... I haven't kept up with football to have a current favorite team... But you have to admit getting rid of David was the best move the Texans ever made...

I don't know what to think about Carr personally. I never really payed attention to football (college or pro) until his rookie year, so I don't know how good he was in college. All I've heard about him and the Texans since his "record-breaking" rookie year is how bad the O-line is. Granted, it could be his fault he got sacked so many times if he wasn't getting the ball to his receivers quick enough. Either way, Andre Johnson is a beast at WR, that defense is coming along nicely with Mario, Ryans, and Okoye, and Matt Schaub is definitely an upgrade over Carr. Right now, I think they're heading for 2nd in the division, behind the Colts, and maybe a Wild Card playoff spot... or maybe I'm going crazy.

One game does not a season make.

KC is terrible on both sides of the ball. Schaub didn't even have a great game. I would call his performance average at best.

There was nothing wrong with Carr. He may have had his confidence shattered irreparably by playing behind Houston's sieve of an offensive line, but he had just as much talent as Schaub does, if not more.

If at the end of the season Schaub hasn't been sacked 40-50 times and throws for more than a 1:1 ratio of TD's to picks, and leads the Texans to more wins than Carr, I'll be impressed.
