Class of 2008 !
I was working on my Purdue application, and wondered where the rest of the class of 2008 FIRSTers are applying.
So class of 2008, where are you applying, & what do you want to major in? |
Re: Class of 2008 !
I've applied to the University of Michigan, Michigan Tech, and Kettering.
Because of my time in robotics, I want to major in Engineering, probably electrical or computer to be specific. |
Re: Class of 2008 !
I'm applying at:
Cedarville University, OH (first choice) Worcester Polytechnic Le Tourneau University, TX Most likely major: Mechanical Engineering |
Re: Class of 2008 !
Im applying to Baylor University in Waco, Texas To start pre-medical :D
Then i will apply to BCU (Baylor college of medicine [Not in any way related to Baylor Univeristy]) Then i will do my residency followed by specialization hopefully this all leads to becoming a Cardiologist or a Cardiac Surgeon. If applying to Baylor does not work out then i will accept an invatation to an honors colledge in Louisiana. |
Re: Class of 2008 !
I'm applying to:
RIT for Computer Science (early decision) WPI for Robotics |
Re: Class of 2008 !
I'm applying to:
-UC Berkley -Cal Poly (San Luis Obisbo) -UC Davis I'm probably going to major in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or something else engineering related. It depends on which universtiy I go to. So many people from my team go to Davis that if I went there we'd probably have to move the whole team :D But seriously, we're acumulating quite a cheering section... |
Re: Class of 2008 !
I am applying to
Michigan State University (Early Decision) Central Michigan University Aquinas Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts My major is probably Broadcast Journalism with a minor in either teaching or Literature. |
Re: Class of 2008 !
Major:
Civil Engineering (Emphasis on Transportation type stuff). Applied to: Michigan Tech. Michigan State University of Michigan Tri-State University University of Toledo (all are early decision schools so i'll know by December the latest). Accepted to: Still awaiting replies. |
Re: Class of 2008 !
I'm looking at applying to several places.
Purdue Drexel UNH UConn RPI WPI MIT (doubt I'll get in, though... one can hope!) I'll either major in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering. |
Re: Class of 2008 !
Good luck to everyone that are applying for colleges. As you are going through your list to apply for colleges, please also put down "Apply for FIRST Scholarships." As Genia pointed out in the "2008 FIRST Scholarships" thread, I believe FIRST will post a list of scholarships available in October. Keep in mind, when you get to college, no matter how rich you are, you will be struggling for money. Even if it's a $100 scholarship, apply for it, money adds up REAL fast.
|
Re: Class of 2008 !
I'm applying to:
University of Texas at Dallas - First Choice Texas Tech - Second Choice University of Houston - Third Choice I have teams lined up for UTD and TTU if I get into one of them... If I am binded by Houston then I will see about taking a small role in a team within an hours drive... What I want to major in: Electrical Engineering, but I also might minor in CS (if UTD) or possibly even dual degree. Pavan. |
Re: Class of 2008 !
I've been offered a half scholarship to RPI, but I have to get into the school first.
RPI Early Desicion Civil Engineering with a concentration in Transportation Maybe a minor in something cool If not accepted(in no order): Drexel Cornell Binghamton Stony Brook Delaware Northeastern Polytechnic Buffalo |
Re: Class of 2008 !
applying to,
UCF, UF, FIT Hopefully mechanical engineering |
Re: Class of 2008 !
As a proud Purdue grad, I'm encouraged by the number of out-of-staters looking at the Old Gold and Black. In addition to being a top-5 engineering/technology school (as well as being a pharmacy, business management, agriculture, and veterinary science mecca), I should hope the Boilermaker Regional has swayed some apps as well. Best regional in Indiana!
|
Re: Class of 2008 !
I'm intending on majoring in computer engineering (I might move to electrical engineering or computer science, but I'm fairly confident in the general field.)
My current list (in no particular order): Franklin W. Olin Harvey Mudd Rose-Hulman CalPoly Stanford WPI MIT CMU Case Western Northwestern Wash U in St. Louis |
Re: Class of 2008 !
Quote:
I was going to do MIT just for the heck of it, but I have prior engagements on the only days remaining for the SAT subject tests. Oh well. Oh and mechanical engineering. Before FIRST I was pretty set on computer programming or something, but one ThunderChicken season (and a summer internship at FANUC Robotics) later I've been convinced otherwise. |
Re: Class of 2008 !
I'm applying to VA Tech, Duke, UVA and Cornell. Tech and Duke are my favorites. I want to do either biomedical or mechanical engineering; I haven't decided.
|
Re: Class of 2008 !
I've been accepted to Purdue with a scholarship... so i'm probably going there
Other schools: Rose Hulman Institute of Technology University of Cincinnati Marquette Grand Valley State Michigan State University Looking for some type of engineering and co-op. |
Re: Class of 2008 !
I'm kinda surprised at all the people applying to Rose-Hulman. On my visit, it didn't really seem like anything too special.. felt like it'd be 4 more years at my high school. Not to mention it's this random high tech facility in the middle of farmlands  what are y'alls reasoning?
|
Re: Class of 2008 !
Quote:
Apparently there have been many FIRSTers that have gone to Rose but none have started a FIRST team there, so if anybody is passing their classes and has some time on their hands, I'm pretty sure Rose is interested, and many alumni who are now in FIRST would be happy. Pavan. |
Re: Class of 2008 !
Actually, our team's previous captain now attends Rose Hulman and he absolutely loves it there. But I also think it's the type of school you could either love or hate.

I am waiting for a response to come.. hopefully it comes soon! (wish me luck ;) ) Since I didn't put any of my other college choices I'll go ahead and do it now, UC Berkeley (The only one that would actually make me doublethink Purdue) UC Davis UC San Diego Cal Poly (cant decide between San Luis Obispo and Pomona to apply) and others that really depend on whether or not i get a response from Purdue soon. |
Re: Class of 2008 !
Got my acceptance letter from Michigan Tech today =D plus a load of merit scholarships
|
Re: Class of 2008 !
Cool, Good for you. Be sure to look into that full-ride leadership scholarship at MTU too.
The application has to be filled out and sent by mid-october. |
Re: Class of 2008 !
I'm applying to:
MIT (early action) Tufts RPI WPI Carnegie Mellon Yale Cornell UCONN Princeton Lafayette Johns Hopkins I'm looking to major in materials engineering or mechanical engineering. |
Re: Class of 2008 !
I have gotten into -
Milwaukee School of Engineering Rose-Hulman St. Thomas Bradely University Ripon College St. Cloud State and I'm still waiting to hear back from - Marquette University University of Minnesota Twin Cities IT I'm going to be doing electrical engineering and computer science |
Re: Class of 2008 !
I got into
Michigan Tech University of Michigan Tri-State Michigan State and University of Toledo. I'm not sure where i'm going yet but I think UT is winning out with the fact it would be free for me to attend (Merit based scholarships). They also have a really good engineering department. |
Re: Class of 2008 !

I heard back from MIT today... I got in! Not yet sure if I'm going there or not, but it was still pretty exciting to hear. |

Re: Class of 2008 !
Don't Know :P
I havn't really thought it through yet.... |
Re: Class of 2008 !
Ok,
So i got to ask everyone. Has anyone considered ITT Technical Institute. They offer a lot of different programs. I was a robotics student and now a volunteer for FIRST FRC Detroit Regional. I am a current ITT Tech student going for a degree in computer network systems. They also offer computer engineering and electronic Technology. I think everyone should check it out. They are nation wide Thanks, James P.S. The website is www.Itt-tech.edu |

Re: Class of 2008 !
I started this thread so I assume I'll go ahead and keep it up and going,
I got into Purdue two months ago! woo! On my birthday actually, so that was pretty sweet. Good luck to everyone with their college choices, I dont hear from the rest of mine til early late February/early March. |
Re: Class of 2008 !
Applied to Cal Poly SLO, Boston College, Purdue Laffayette, and University of Utah. But I'm going to Cal Poly and majoring in some kind of engineering-probably mechanical. Anyone else headed there?
|
Re: Class of 2008 !
Going to either McDaniel or Gettysburg. McDaniel was my second choice and I got accepted, so all my other applications kind of stopped mattering save Gettysburg. More than likely I'm doing McDaniel though.
I'm hoping I get a decent scholarship to help my parents out which shouldn't be tough; I'm doing their honors program and they seem to want english majors which works for me. |

It seems like a lot of us are getting what we want. |
Re: Class of 2008 !
I want to attend a small liberal-arts college, where I can have a close relation with professors, but still get access to computer science. My first choice is Hampshire College. My other choices are Knox, Beloit, Lewis & Clark, and Earlham.
Our team captain is applying to WPI. If he goes there, that means three successive generations of 1540 captains will have attended WPI. |
Re: Class of 2008 !
I applyed to VT, VCU, and UVA. My first choice is Tech, and I should hear from VCU within the next week or two.

For all of you considering Purdue I just want to reiterate that it is an awesome school! I'm a freshman engineering student here and my experience has been amazing, the FIRST programs here are well established and you will have a blast. You will find support wherever you need it and the friends you will make are amazing. Go boilers!

Re: Class of 2008 !
I decided to go to Purdue, since I got a trustee's scholarship =D. I know I'm doing engineering but I can't decide on a more specific topic, debating between chemical and nuclear engineering right now.
|
Re: Class of 2008 !
So... Who's going to Purdue or Rose Hulman? I'm picking between the two..

Re: Class of 2008 !
Well, I hate to revive a thread this old, but seeing as how most people know where their going and their starting orientation, I figured we could post our class schedules here.
I'm taking for my 1st semester I've got Chem 101, Chem lab 101, Intro to engineering, Math 200 (Calculus), and Focused Inquiry (VCUs version of Freshmen Comp). Also, when do you guys prefer to have your classes? Lined up in a row, spread out over a couple of days? I personally like things spread out, I only have two days with back to back classes. |
Re: Class of 2008 !
Congrats Grads!
If you are going to Purdue in the fall, consider joining PurdueFIRST. We mentor 3 FRC teams in the local area, and can always use more students in the program! Plus, you get class credit for it, it's a win-win. Boiler Up! |
Re: Class of 2008 !
I'm going to USC next year. I got into the Viterbi School of Engineering for Mechanical Engineering.
|
Re: Class of 2008 !
Congrats everyone!
I am sure you are all excited. :) And I am kind of sad that I don't see anyone with Clarkson University as a choice. |
