Does anybody know if we're suposed to buy the new kits or the old vex kits?
|
Re: FTC
please specify....
are you asking about the new "Vexplorer"? If you are... Just know that the Vexplorer controller is not programmable, so it wouldn't suit FTC play at all. Game release is slated for tomorrow. Find out the details then. |
Re: FTC
Don't buy the VEXplorer, unless you are going to use it for fun. Most of the parts will probably not be FTC legal. Also FIRST should be offering the VEX starter kits at a reduced price to FTC teams.

Re: FTC
When are these kits going to be available?

Re: FTC
I got this from Darlene Pantaleo from Virginia FIRST
"Once you have paid, the option to purchase up to 2 kits per team at $209.95 will appear. The system will consider you paid immediately whether you put in a credit card # or a PO #. You cannot purchase the kits until your registration is paid." So from what i've been told you get the option from TIMS. And i think you get the "Starter Kit" linked below. http://www.vexlabs.com/vex-robotics-...it-parts.shtml Now if someone could tell me WHEN the game is coming out on Wednesday. |
Re: FTC
I think I heard it was at 12:00 pm but I don't know for sure. I just hope its before 3:40 cause we are planning a release at our school.

Re: FTC
Another great job on the animation - thank you FRC Team 342 and also thanks to the game design committee for Quad Quandary!

Re: FTC
I like how none of the field elements are stationary this year, looks like it will make a fun game!

Re: FTC
The thing i dont understand is why there aren't any points for hanging on the bar. That would be cool to see a bot hanging while its partner is pushing them into their scoring quadrant....

Re: FTC
that would ensure a good strategy too..if you put the paired ones across court in your 2 zones ..and then hung on the bar..it would be harder for your opponent to move it into their zone.

Re: FTC
I viable stradegy for defense would be to trap a bot in the conner by moving the double goal in front of them and keeping the bar low. Even when the bar is high it's only 15in from the ground so any 18inch high robots won't be able to go under it.

Re: FTC
Nothing says you cant hang on the bar either. That would make it harder to move so maybe when you get the ends in you base you hang on it to and it might stay in place easier.

Re: FTC
Wow - there are so many different aspects to this game that it is hard to figure out how the game will play out.
|
Re: FTC
This is a great game, can't wait to see how it will play out. I would just like to point out the great job the FTC Game Design Committee did with the rule book, keeping the number of rules to a minimum and making it really easy for teams to get into and fully understand the game. Lets just hope in January we can see a rule book in the same style and length.

Re: FTC
We were looking at the rule book and i noticed that one of the "specific" rules was that you can't remove ringer from the post. What about from the base?
If anybody knows can you reply? |
Re: FTC
It doesn't say anything about removing them from the base so I would assume it's legal. Especially since it declares you can't remove them from the posts. Also I would expect that rings would accidentally fall off when moving the platform around. For an official answer ask the FIRST Q&A forum when it opens.
|
Re: FTC
Please use the official Q&A system for official game answers. Your team's main contact can access the Q&A login information through the FTC TIMS registration system. Anyone can read the Q&A, but in order to post questions, you need to have paid your FTC registration fee. Once that fee is paid the login and password information becomes available in TIMS within a week of payment.

Re: FTC
Don't you just love how the game design committees always come up with open-ended challenges? That allow us to think of lots of different strategies, offensive and defensive moves? That allow us to play in the game, regardless of our skillsets, rookies and veteran teams alike? Kudos to the committee for volunteering their time and energy so that we can all have a great time playing Quad Quandary!
|
Re: FTC
Yeah... this looks like one of the most interesting challenges yet. So many options, so many ways for teams to work together... so many ways for it to all go sideways! In fact, right now I am sitting here trying to figure out how to build a robot to play this game... one of the things I love about VEX is that I can afford to build my own robot at home while my students build theirs at school. Then once they have built their robots I can bring mine in and actually get to play some matches with them on the practice field.
In fact Q.Q. is a good enough game that I'd like to play this with the big robots... perhaps using old car tires as the game pieces. Jason |
