Applicants must meet physical standards and educational requirements, which include a bachelor's degree in engineering, math or science and at least three years of experience in one of these fields.

Teaching experience, including experience at the K-12 level, is considered to be qualifying experience; therefore, educators are encouraged to apply.

I think a lot of mentors on this board at least meet the bare minimum to apply. Worst thing they can do is say no.
Forget Survivor. Put Andy Baker... in Space! (I can imagine the headlines now..."Pigs in space now have a farmer")

Here is an article about this on chron.com

And here is the article on Nasa.gov

The best part about the job description simply must be that, "frequent travel may be required."

:)

A buddy of mine who was an aeronautical engineer in college applied for one of those. "Physical Standards" means heart rate & blood pressure under stress. If it goes too high when you're down here, you could inadvertently threaten a mission in space, nor can it drop too low or "murmur" in varying pressure atmospheres (I lose at that point). If you have a healthy heart & lungs, (and don't show any impulsive destructive tendencies) most of the time they'll consider you.

For all of you who think you are in the “I’m not qualified” category-
I met the wonderful Don Thomas when he moved to Baltimore a couple of months ago, and we are having ongoing talks about ways for him to be involved in FIRST here in Maryland.

He was rejected from NASA as an astronaut 3 times over many years. But he kept following his dream, and kept figuring out what he needed to do next. Don just retired from NASA, with 1000+ hours in space.

I kinda found it funny that a degree in Archeology is not counted as a qualification..

I'm sure that will change the day we find some alien artifacts on another planet and we need some experts in that field.

:p

/me thinks I have watched way too many Space/Sci-Fi movies in my day.

Yeah, that is funny. I wouldn't mind to be an astronaut, if I just didn't have to leave the ground.:o (I despise heights)

No you cannot. Strict medical background checks are made. All health issues are reported to NASA through doctors and hospitals and also the private NASA docs. Sorry =)

I saw this on the local news when I was sitting in our Lounge in Houston. So, just for fun I applied later that day. It would be funny if I made it out of the first round.
