Lockheed Martin Teams
Lockheed Martin Teams: Who's out there, and what are you up to?
I just picked up a copy of the Lockheed Martin Today newspaper. In it on the front cover was a Segway!!! Sadly though there was no mention of Dean Kamen, only words "the inventor." But what did catch my eye was the article "Engineering The Future" which talks about the Engineers in the Classroom Initiative. Said contact Dianne Bulter, which I did, but though I would also ask here what people knew. Any way, be sure to check it out. PS: If you haven't already, check out the LM Sharepoint website. Yeah... its a bit old since George Marchant left LM for VEX, but maybe between this site and this new initiative we can get a) organized, b) better known, and c) have a larger voice for FIRST. |
Re: Lockheed Martin Teams
Lockheed used to be our main sponsor back in the day, and several of our mentors were Lockheed engineers.
Why it ended I don't know, but we are happy with our current sponsor. Anyways... If you're a team looking for sponsorship Lockheed looks like a great choice. A whole section of their website is dedicated to their community outreach and support for schools and educational programs. And they seem to have offices in every region of the nation. |

Re: Lockheed Martin Teams
Lockheed is one of the sponsors for Exploding Bacon. They are a great partner.....we set up robot demos for them during Take your kid to work day. It was a blast.

Re: Lockheed Martin Teams
I know there is a definite push to get Lockheed more involved, particularly in Vex, in Virginia, and they have shown interest in expanding. While I'm speaking purely out of hearsay though, via a chain three people long, so don't take my words as the absolute truth. They do sponsor some Virginia teams already, including 1885, 1895, and 2068.

Re: Lockheed Martin Teams
We used to be sponsored by Lockheed about two or so years ago, but they didn't renew their sponsorship after on the basis that too many of their employees had children in FIRST teams anyways or something. At the time, we weren't very happy about it seeing as to how we had fulfilled their requirements for sponsorship. But now, we have other smaller sponsors so we're still okay.

Re: Lockheed Martin Teams
Hmm, I can't really comment on the Lockheed/Northern Va. thing since I don't know cold hard details, but suffice it to say that we do have an interest in extending the education of every school and not just the ones we sponsor for FRC.
Never knew there was a sharepoint site. |
Re: Lockheed Martin Teams
Lockheed has been [b]very[b] fussy about having an employee as part of your team. In our very early years, the parent of one of our members was an employee and did some work with our team, so they sponsored us. After that, no support until another employee, Mr. Jeff, joined us, and again we have their support. (Thanks, Jeff!!!)

Re: Lockheed Martin Teams
Lockheed Martin has been a great sponsor of Team 665 since before I was on the team. I have truly enjoyed demonstrating our robot at the Orlando East side plant the past two years during Take Your Child to Work Day. Our most active mentors are from Lockheed Martin and they have definitely helped us rebuild our team's performance. We look forward to another year of cooperation and robotics in 2008.

Re: Lockheed Martin Teams
Lockheed Martin is our founding sponsor for FRC 499, Toltechs. They continue to provide financial support for the three FRC teams here in San Antonio, Texas. They have stopped providing mentoring support as they couldn't provide enough mentors to share across the three teams.
