Yes...what a suspiscious finding we have there. ;)

Note to all the teams in New England, and especially to those teams beyond...you might want to sign the little name on the dotted line.

...Especially considering that from the regional stats here, it looks like the UTC Connecticut Regional is the largest and [possibly] only Super-Regional of the 2008 FRC Season.

I'm not really sure why messages are being deleted in this thread. If the RPC wanted to keep whatever is being discussed a secret, they should have been better secret keepers.

A) It had nothing to do with the RPC or the regional itself. (Regional Planning Commitee I'm assuming btw.)

B) It was rumors about a water game in a thread meant to discuss the regional itself, and the speculation about a 70 team regional.

3) The newly registered person "Aquaman101" was pretending to be someone from Team 25 who well known actual Team 25 members (Bharat & someone else) disregarded as being on their team.

4) It was spam in the wrong place. (Duplicated in 2 threads across CD by the same username)

5) The message was reported, and thus removed.

Moving on...

Last year there were 70 available spots, but only 49 registered teams. Maybe it will be a similar outcome this year.

And by the way- 1124 is going to be at the Connecticut Regional. I'm already counting down the days.

With a 70 team capacity, it seems like it would be considered a "super-regional" (such as GTR has been in the past), thus it may have 2 fields, but that's all just a guess at this point till an official announcement is made, but I wouldn't be surprised.
At this point though, it looks like the newly named CT Regional is going to be pretty busy this year no matter what. :)

I'm guessing it depends on if all 70 spots are filled. With the 49/70 last year there was only one field, but I'm assuming more teams will be at the regional this year, what with the rookie teams and all. It would be a new experience to have two fields at the CT Regional, that's for sure.

If.... there is a super regional.

The good news:
Welcome to many new teams that have never attended a New England event!
Get ready for some good 'ol New England D.

The bad news:
Not getting to compete against ALL of our friends from years past.

When I get back to school from Japan :D :D next week, I will definitely bring it up with our team. We are looking for a week 1 or week 3 regional to go with our VCU choice from week 2. We actually competed against one of the connecticut teams in an electric vehicle competition in New Hampshire last year called Farmington High School, I think.

Alright, as the team list grows things just keep looking better for the 2008 CT Regional.

Notable Teams:
126- 2007 Boston Regional Chairmans Award Winners anf Regional Champions
175- 2007 GSR Champions
176- 2007 GTR Champions and 2007 CT Regional Finalists
177- 2007 Newton Division Champions and 2007 Championship Winners
178- 2006 and 2007 CT Regional and 2007 Championship Engineering Inspiration Winners
181- 2007 Philadelphia Regional Champions
195- 2007 Connecticut Regional Champions and 2006 Championship Finalists
236- 2004,2005,2006,2007 Connecticut Regional Chairmans Award Winners
358- 2007 Long Island Regional Finalists
558- 2007 Connecticut Regional Champions
1124- 2007 Connecticut Regional Champions and 2007 Championship Division Finalists
1155- 2007 NYC Regional Chairmans Award Winner and 2007 NJ Regional Finalist
2067- 2007 Connecticut Regional Rookie All Stars
2104- 2007 CT Regional Finalists
2265- 2007 NY Regional Rookie All Stars
2274- 2007 NY Regional Champions

All of the 2007 Alliance Captains are returning for the 2008 Regional.

Also something I found interesting all of the Rookie All Star winners from 2002-2007 are competing at the '08 Regional, this is pretty clear evidence of home grown talent ate UTC

I know that prior success doesn't mean a whole lot but with the number of returning award winners it sure will be interesting.

2003 Chairman's at the Manchester Regional as well. The one's listed were just the CT Chairman's wins.

P.S. I was there when they won at Manchester beginning their streak. Our pit backed on theirs. They appeared to be really happy.:)

Correct, amazing how they continue that streak at a regional with so many old, competitive teams.

As a note I just heard today that Team 20 is registered for FLR, not the Connecticut regional.

We would love to have you guys stop by. If any one on your team (or any team for that matter) decides to come up to see the school send me a pm, if we can work out a time when I don't have class I would be willing to meet up with you, answer questions, and show you where we work.

My team is only a 20 minute drive away, so we're not staying over.

But last year, on Friday night, my family decided to stay at the hotel because they were afraid they'd get stuck on the mountain in the snow (there are always accidents on Avon Mountain when it snows, and that storm last year was pretty bad). They stayed at The Hartford Marriott Downtown, which is connected to the CT Convention Center. Here's the hotel's website, if you're interested: http://www.marriott.com/hotels/trave...iott-downtown/.

There are plenty of good hotels within a twenty minute drive. You'll just need tranportation. Check the Manchester area to the East of Hartford, North towards the Windsor/ Windor Locks area, West the Farmington/West Hartford area, and South the Cromwell area.

The great thing about living in New England.... everything is a twenty minute drive!

The Event website sounds sure that we will have "Double the Regional…Double the Fun". There are 61 confirmed teams and 6 more pending, that's too many for the kind of bleachers available inside the convention center.

Elgin Clock 07-01-2008 23:43

Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional

At this point I'm sure the Regional Planning Commitee realizes these facts as well.

67 is too many teams for one regional with space issues..

But 33 would pose 2 very small regionals...

I believe we have the RPC stuck between what is called "a rock & a hard place" at this moment.

BUT with that said, I have confidence the RPC will come up with a very good solution, and even though it may be something different than previous years, no matter what that difference may be, I also have confidence that all the great teams I see on the list who are signed up will pull together and make this a fantastic regional however it unfolds! :)

As for me, I'm going to worry about building a robot, building a team, and more relevant things for the next 6 weeks in my eyes and wait until we get an official word from the CT RPC & until then wish them the best of luck in whatever they decide to do! :)

During the Regional my team, the Dragons, is hosting a social on the Friday after the Qualifying rounds. Attached is the "Save the Date" flyer that we're putting out, and in the near future we'll put out the official flyer with more detailed information.

You need to get friends, neighbors and relatives to volunteer so that maybe two regionals will be a reality!!!

Team 1665 will be there, and I will show up to help them. My team decided to go to Boston rather than Hartford.

Thinking about attending college or vocational training after high school? Make sure you visit the College Fair being sponsored by the FRC CT Regional on Friday, March 14.

The list of colleges, universities and vocational schools participating in the College Fair will be posted on the FRC CT regional website as the date draws closer - www.ctfirst.org/frc_events

The Connecticut College Fair (tentative) list has been posted at: http://www.ctfirst.org/frc_events/2008_collegefair.html

Please tell your parents, students, mentors, guidance counselors to attend the fair! We've brought these colleges in just for YOU to make it easy for you to ask questions, etc. They are interested in learning about FIRST and about YOU - so please make every effort to stop by the fair!

Hi All,

358 from Hauppauge NY is looking forward to attending again! We're in much better shape this year as the robot was actually mechanically/electrically complete prior to shipment!!

I know with all the teams this is asking a bit much, but...
Does anyone know if there will be a practice field (or at least 1/4 practice field) that allows for hybrid mode - overpass work?

Thanks in advance.

I have a few predictions:

The high score will be 130ish.
The finals will be decided by 10 points or less each match.
Shooters will dominate.

I agree with the first prediction, but disagree with the second two.

After watching the BAE (Granite State Regional) semifinals and finals, I'm guessing most elimination scores at CTR will range between 50 and 120 points before penalties.

And when it comes to shooters vs arms vs herders, effective and consistent robots will dominate. That depends as much on their method of trackball acquisition and driver skill, as the mechanism used to make the trackball score.

It sounds like our heavy stuff, such as the robot cart and tools, need to come in the loading dock.

We have a problem being from out of town and without personal vehicles to drive around the complex and up that long ramp to the loading dock area.

Any local teams with a pickup truck able to help us get our stuff around back?

The venue has always had this policy. All heavy things come through the loading dock area. NOT through the escalators, please! Note ONE pass and ONE vehicle per team - and lots of teams all arriving at the same time. Gracious Professionalism will certainly come into play this week! :)

I remember the first year was a surprise to everyone, but we talked facility management into letting us take a coach bus up and around.
This year we may have to do without a cart, bring in one screwdriver at a time. :)

Friday we'll have some personal cars as people come after work. Can we get a loading pass for Friday?
And is it one time through the gate only, or are multiple trips allowed?

This seems to be a real valid concern this year.

I was recruited to help set up the field Wednesday evening, and I also plan on seeing what the seating layout is going to be.

If I get approval from the powers that be from the Regional Planning Committee, (which I'm sure won't be a problem) I'll upload and post a picture or a few pics of the venue and the seating arrangements on Wednesday night when I get back home so everyone knows what to expect when they get there on Thursday morning.

In any case, remember your GP when dealing with seating this year folks as I'm sure it'll be a little crowded whatever the arrangement may be!

Until Wednesday night... Stay tuned! :)

Mark, does your cart or tool box weigh more than 200lbs? There is an elevator for handicapped access. Moderate sized tool boxes and carts should be able to load that way.
