2008 Connecticut Regional
237 is in the house
|
Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
I'll be there, I'm sure! :)
|
Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
Over 70 seats? That makes the Connecticut Regional an unusually large event...
|
Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
As soon as I get specifics from Mike Sperber, our committee chair, I'll be posting specifics at this site: http://www.ctfirst.org/frc_events/index.html

funny, aquaman, funny.
I cant wait for this years game... I'm so excited to build the robot! (and get yelled at when it doesn't work) wow 70 teams? thats quite the show. |
Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
This is going to be one big event! I can hardly wait.
|
Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
Aces High, 176, will be there, assuming we don't get snowed in.

The Ticks (236) will be there, even if we need to bring snowshoes!
Hoping to see all of you at the BASH on Oct 13th! |
Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
I'm not really sure why messages are being deleted in this thread. If the RPC wanted to keep whatever is being discussed a secret, they should have been better secret keepers.

Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional

B) It was rumors about a water game in a thread meant to discuss the regional itself, and the speculation about a 70 team regional. 3) The newly registered person "Aquaman101" was pretending to be someone from Team 25 who well known actual Team 25 members (Bharat & someone else) disregarded as being on their team. 4) It was spam in the wrong place. (Duplicated in 2 threads across CD by the same username) 5) The message was reported, and thus removed. Moving on... |

Maybe we're nuts, as we still are desperately searching for mentors (found one new one so far), but #558 is registered. See you all there, and at the Bash in a few weeks, too.:yikes:
|
Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
I heard from an anonymous source that there was going to be two fields this year. Not sure if that was supposed to be a secret of if everyone knew that already but that's what i heard.?

Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
We are definitely looking at attending. Seen many of these teams signed up last year at the NJ regional.:D

Team 228 will be back again. :)
If.... there is a super regional. The good news: Welcome to many new teams that have never attended a New England event! Get ready for some good 'ol New England D. The bad news: Not getting to compete against ALL of our friends from years past. I can't imagine having to split up all this wicked talent into two fields! :ahh: |

When I get back to school from Japan :D :D next week, I will definitely bring it up with our team. We are looking for a week 1 or week 3 regional to go with our VCU choice from week 2. We actually competed against one of the connecticut teams in an electric vehicle competition in New Hampshire last year called Farmington High School, I think. |
Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
Farmington (CT) High School is home to FRC 178 and they are registered to attend!
|
Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
To the best of my knowledge both Team 20 and 1493 will be heading down from New yorks capital region, hopefully with pleanty of college mentors since the regional falls on RPI's spring break.

Syracuse's spring break is that week again this year, so I expect to be there rain or... snow. And UCONN's Spring break is that weekend this year, too. So some other former Buzz team members may join me.

Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional

Also something I found interesting all of the Rookie All Star winners from 2002-2007 are competing at the '08 Regional, this is pretty clear evidence of home grown talent ate UTC I know that prior success doesn't mean a whole lot but with the number of returning award winners it sure will be interesting. |

But last year, on Friday night, my family decided to stay at the hotel because they were afraid they'd get stuck on the mountain in the snow (there are always accidents on Avon Mountain when it snows, and that storm last year was pretty bad). They stayed at The Hartford Marriott Downtown, which is connected to the CT Convention Center. Here's the hotel's website, if you're interested: http://www.marriott.com/hotels/trave...iott-downtown/. |
Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
WAY TO GO BRAZIL!!!
Assuming all the pending teams hold up, only 7 teams and shrinking. C'mon teams, answer the challenge!!! |
Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
Just an FYI, FIRST just sent out an email regarding the "Double Regional" event at Connecticut.

Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
Wow, lots of veterans AND several rookies are coming to Hartford. The venue is great, the volunteer staff is awesome ;) ... what more can you ask for?
|
Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
We need more of a midwest presence in Hartford this year. How about it, teams of the Big 10 and Big 12? Care to prove your worth against the mighty Big East (and Brazil :D)

Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
C'mon, that didn't stop anyone from coming to the event last year, I don't know what you're talking about!
Besides, it's not like we had to stand outside for three hours when the fire alarm went off or anything. |
Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
After reading this thread, everyone has had excellent reasons for coming to Hartford for the competition. The one reason that I feel you all should come is the wonderful pit admin crew that is there to greet you and make your pit experience the best ever! :D This group of people have many years of experience in the FIRST world and can help you with your pit needs. Oh ya and the best reason to come is ME :ahh: just kidding! Come to Hartford and see us. Don't forget to stop bye and say Hi.

last year was amazing fun
best thing ever thing was at the hotel (snowed in) 'i got shoes for hands" you had to be there... |
Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
As of 19:53 EST
Pending Teams: 18 Open Capacity: 18 Assuming everyone pays, it will be full, and surely FIRST will add the second field. |
Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
Its a wonderful thing...
From the looks of it, if the pending teams hold up, we're goin double baby! Way to answer the call teams! Don't forget, its not only important to have teams at an event like this, its also important to have volunteers. Sign right on up in VIMS! Get yourself involved and see history in the making! Now lets hope the snow/hail holds off this year. :p |
Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
whats unfortunate is that, as I understand it, the hartford mariott downtown is fully booked already largely due to other conferences in the area. We're trying to make alternate arrangements within the vicinity.
|
Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
Based on past years does anyone know if we can expect a suitable internet connection at the event? The RPI decision notification comes out march 14th and I dont want to have to wait to get back to the hotel to find out if im in.

Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
At this point I'm sure the Regional Planning Commitee realizes these facts as well.
67 is too many teams for one regional with space issues.. But 33 would pose 2 very small regionals... I believe we have the RPC stuck between what is called "a rock & a hard place" at this moment. BUT with that said, I have confidence the RPC will come up with a very good solution, and even though it may be something different than previous years, no matter what that difference may be, I also have confidence that all the great teams I see on the list who are signed up will pull together and make this a fantastic regional however it unfolds! :) As for me, I'm going to worry about building a robot, building a team, and more relevant things for the next 6 weeks in my eyes and wait until we get an official word from the CT RPC & until then wish them the best of luck in whatever they decide to do! :) |
Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
i cant wait for this regional even just as a spectator... there will never be a dull minute and there never is at the CTR... oh and i will be watching you... all of you and your little robots too for nationals =X

The Connecticut College Fair (tentative) list has been posted at: http://www.ctfirst.org/frc_events/2008_collegefair.html
Please tell your parents, students, mentors, guidance counselors to attend the fair! We've brought these colleges in just for YOU to make it easy for you to ask questions, etc. They are interested in learning about FIRST and about YOU - so please make every effort to stop by the fair! |
Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
Hi All,
358 from Hauppauge NY is looking forward to attending again! We're in much better shape this year as the robot was actually mechanically/electrically complete prior to shipment!! I know with all the teams this is asking a bit much, but... Does anyone know if there will be a practice field (or at least 1/4 practice field) that allows for hybrid mode - overpass work? Thanks in advance. |
Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
I've just seen some 'secret' videos of the teams coming to this regional.
177 is absolutely. positively. ridiculous. Be afraid. Be very afraid. That is all for now. |

Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional

The high score will be 130ish. The finals will be decided by 10 points or less each match. Shooters will dominate. |
Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
Quote:
After watching the BAE (Granite State Regional) semifinals and finals, I'm guessing most elimination scores at CTR will range between 50 and 120 points before penalties. And when it comes to shooters vs arms vs herders, effective and consistent robots will dominate. That depends as much on their method of trackball acquisition and driver skill, as the mechanism used to make the trackball score. |

Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
I remember the first year was a surprise to everyone, but we talked facility management into letting us take a coach bus up and around.
This year we may have to do without a cart, bring in one screwdriver at a time. :) Friday we'll have some personal cars as people come after work. Can we get a loading pass for Friday? And is it one time through the gate only, or are multiple trips allowed? |
Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional

I was recruited to help set up the field Wednesday evening, and I also plan on seeing what the seating layout is going to be. If I get approval from the powers that be from the Regional Planning Committee, (which I'm sure won't be a problem) I'll upload and post a picture or a few pics of the venue and the seating arrangements on Wednesday night when I get back home so everyone knows what to expect when they get there on Thursday morning. In any case, remember your GP when dealing with seating this year folks as I'm sure it'll be a little crowded whatever the arrangement may be! Until Wednesday night... Stay tuned! :) |
