Question to finger lakes teams, what are your opinions on a RED Fairport Team.

Had a discussion that came up with a community like fairport that is huge about red raider spirit that it would benefit the fairport high school blue lightning team supportwise by becoming a team with a "red" theme.

I'd say go for whatever helps your own team and school spirit. If you want a Red Thunder to go with your Blue Lightning, take it to town!

But there's already a Red Thunder team.
Rolling Thunder.
I say stick with the Blue Lightning look. A FIRST team is neither the school it represents or the sponsor that it represents but the marriage of the two. Thus forming a new identity which is the robotics team. I recommend incorporating red into the design.

I admit it's been a while since I have posted anything on Chief Delphi, but I have to express my admiration for FLR and thank everyone for welcoming us so warmly to our first FLR. What a wonderful venue, and what a wonderful group of teams! Thank you all very much. It was one of the best regional experiences I have ever had.

There is a lot to be said about the school/team partnership. We have used the school colors with our team since we started. It works out well at school & seems to make more sense with the other students.

I think something both of your teams can share is if you were to sit at a pep rally your team colors would fit in with the schools crowd of orange or red, at fairport hs pep rally the history is that this team loves to sit together to emphasize that FIRST is a team activity, only problem is that the group of 50 wearing black in a sea of red just seems out of place. And it kind of sends the wrong message to the school.

To add on there is some history of brighton hs and fairport hs working together around 01-02' I think that has something to do with the name blue lightning.

Teams undergo identity changes all the time. Maybe have different T-shirts different days. The new red look, and the old "throw back" look.

By the way, for anyone at FLR, the welcome to the Finger Lakes video that was shown at several times throughout the competition was put together by Larry. I was impressed every time I saw it. Well done Larry!

What a competition!
This is my first post and first time to FRC!
Guess what? I'm already hooked. :)

Thanks to all the judges, volunteers, planners, organizers who made it possible. You guys rock, the competition went so smooth.

Congratulations to the finalists: 378, 1126 and 1551, you are very competitive teams. The game could have gone either way.

Congratulations to our alliance partners: 191, 2053 and 174, without you all, we wouldn't win the final match.

Special thanks to 2053 for lending us the very important part of the robot: The Controller.
Also thanks to 191, 1518 for the offers when we needed helps.

Congrats to the winning alliance: 20, 191, 2053 and 174!
As a Binghamton native, I've excited to see 2053 win & only two years out.
Hopefully the publicity will pump up and we can get Vestal or Bingo HS involved now.

Congrats to 1511 on EI!
Kim (and I'm sure the other mentors) are doing an incredable job.

Sadly Chuck headed out early ala fears of the weather. Darkness & Black Ice not a good combo. Turns out we did the smart thing. A bus trailing behind had a tree fall on us and went off the roads. Don't know if anyone was hurt...

Pros: Rochester is always a awsome time, after 7 years its still my fav regional.
Cons: Honestly, this is my least fav game ever. Can be dull and waaay to many penalties.

See all those headed to Philly and have a great 'March Madness' to all else!

You did an excellent job coordinating us volunteers, congrats on the woodie flowers award as well, it's well deserved!!!

I think this years flr opening video was ok, but next year it's going to be better!

Also I'm in the process of uploading flr videos while it's going to take a few hours to upload expect to see FLR 08 feed videos appearing on the following site, these are huge files at the highest quality possible so don't be shocked if the links don't lead you anywhere yet they will as time goes on.

Uploaded 1-23 so far!

Copioli and Karthik BOTH showed up right before Elims started.
:)

Really - I saw Karthik walk by quickly but I missed Paul. I would have tried to track them down to say hello.

Oh well next time.

John,

Your team is always welcome and we (RochesterFirst community) hope to keep things fun and accomodating to our visiting guests. The only thing we can't control is the bad weather unfortunately but I'm glad you guys all made it home safe and sound. If you have any suggestions to improve your experience here at FLR please let us know. The committee will typically send out surveys to teams soon for feedback.

Ellery

Yeah it really is amazing how many people that you can meet at the competitions. Unfortunately I was on the field and didn't get the chance to introduce myself and say hi to either of them. Luckily I was able to meet a lot of other awesome people that I recognized merely from CD. Personally I saw (and I know I'll accidently leave many out) Alex Cormier, Hiteak, Koko Ed, Dylan Gramlich, Jay Trzaskos, Liz Smith, The Lucas, Ashley Christine, jgannon, and of course Steve W. FLR was awesome!

Well it all depends on what the objective is? Do you want to be a unique entity or a combined based on your school and sponsor? Whatever the choice understand that "Blue lightning" has been your team's identity for some time and will be know by it, if you change it you may have to get that branding re-done for everyone to realize it's the same entity.

Back in years prior to 2000 our team had multiple colored Tye-Dye shirts, designs each year that people didn't remember who you were during the competition. Back in the day it didn't matter as much because there weren't too many teams to begin with. But now that there's over 1200 teams branding yourself is critical. Take for example Team 365 MOE - They have done an awesome job picking their team's theme and Branding and everyone will know that it's them.

If the team is willing to start a clean slate and integrate the school colors it's fine, just be awarre that it will take time to get people realize that it's the same team.

Just my 2 cents
