The base team cards will be handed out, on thursday. "Limited Edition" cards will be handed out throughout the competition.
There is 49 cards because there is 9 "Limited Edition" cards. |
Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional
what are these limited edition cards?
|
Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional
My guess is really good past robots, like 2005 Division by Zero, or 2006 SparX, or 2007 Lunatecs.
Just a guess... |

makes sense, I would like to thank 2228 for doing this.

Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional
Well I got into Rochester tonight, unloaded my stuff and then the freezing rain started. I couldn't have cut it any closer as they say tomorrow will be worse. I will be at setup tomorrow and ready to go Thursday.
Alex, why do you continually say things that are both wrong and also get you in trouble. Twinkletoes is a good name for you as your head is in the clouds and you are continually dancing trying to get out of trouble. |

Hi all!
I'm going to be getting into Rochester on Friday at 8:00 AM, at the Greyhound Bus Terminal. I just thought I'd put it out there, if anyone would be able to give me a ride to the Regional? Thanks so much! Looking forward to a great weekend, Dandon |
Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional
Update from Rochester:
-Practice matches are running well with few field errors. -Very few teams fully inspected before Lunch, A lot of busy teams in the pits -I believe there are four shooters here, all look sharp - Cammo cammo everywhere with 65,768 and 1511. -Filler line is working good, were averaging four robots per match. FLR looks great again, I can't wait for qual. matches!! |

Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional
Today 1405 had:
3 complete "fall-aparts" during practice rounds 2 fires :ahh: (1 during a practice round that everyone oohed and awwed at.. hahaha) 5 laps/round (when working semi-correctly) 1 tread fall off our IFI traction wheel (it was riveted on great, I think the alum. plates by the lane divider helped rip it off) With regards to the robot, Thursday basically sucked for us. Here's to hoping Friday and Saturday will be better :( |

Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional
All but 3 robots with complete inspection with only minor issues on the last 3. Looks to be a good regional with the teams that are here.
As for those that want to know about the outcome of the Laser Quest challenge I have the report in. We were only able to get one match in before the place closed. The Rochester players would not divulge any of the maze before we started. Even though it was announced a lot of times the Rochester people hid in there homes while only a few brave souls dared to meet the challenge. It was almost a hard fought match with one old guy. Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional
20 & 67's match determined Number one seed for Friday.
Hot put up 118, 20 was incapacitated for 30 secs, and flipped (got back up after a while). Good regional so far, can wait until the seedings. (If they dont get snowed out ) Go High Five! |
Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional
interesting matches today. There arn't many teams that really stand out amung the rest, but there are many good teams.

I had looked at the standings before I left tonight, but had only focused on our own standing (which really kind of surprises me, to be honest). But checking this out again, I see that the team that helped us get started is #1! Wow! - and to think I saw them ingloriously lying on their side earlier today! No wonder everybody on this thread seems so quiet (dazed and confused?). Who would have thought the two Niagara County, NY teams would occupy half of the top four seeds, at this point? I think back on the last month or so, practicing with #378 in an old fire house, on a floor that was barely to size of a field (if that), and not even close to level. Having various problems (that at least we never really solved). Congrats, Circuit Stompers! And Good Luck! Oh, and as far as standouts goes, c'mon - #0020 was #1 practically all day, and was a member of more 80+ point alliances (of which there have been 13) than anybody (4 of them, two of which scored in the 90s). Four teams had three 80+ alliances: #0067, #0191, #0378, #1126. Hey - there's #0378 again! ;) They may hurdle backwards, but it looks like they're for-real, guys! I don't know how they're doing it, but my best guess for our own team is that our drivers are excellent, and work well with other alliance members. (We were only in two.) |
Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional
We have been doing good most of today. At one point we had some power issues, but they were quickly fixed. I hope the snow doesn't throw too much off tomorrow. So, does anyone want to go outside and make Snow Robo Coaches? :p

Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional

Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional
I wanted to send good luck from Florida to MAK Team 211. As my brother, one of their mentors, told me last night "If it weren't for bad luck, we'd have no luck at all." Watch out for penalties, ignore your rank/standings and continue to rack up points hurdling! Even though you only have one scheduled match left today, I hope it's a blast.
I really wish FLR was webcast! Good luck to all teams & hope the weather doesn't cause too much of a problem (of course, as I told my brother...if you attend our "FLR" : the FL Regional, snow & ice are never an issue ;) ). |

congrats to the winners. When the alliance selection happened, me and a friend said that it would be u guys in the finals with 1126's alliance.
Im a little worried about how Ref oriented this game is, In a couple matches i seen the flags go up around 12 times and only show 2 penalties, and then there were matches where they didnt go up at all and there were 5-6. Did anyone find out what the penalty was that won them the match? |
Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional
FLR, what a competition! Please accept our apologies for leaving before the finals and award ceremony. We were fighting the weather and the health of many of the team members.
Lansdale Catholic Cyber-Crusaders team 272 would like to thank all the organizers, volunteers and teams involved in the 2008 Finger Lakes Regional. Team 365 mentioned it was a great regional so we took a chance going north in winter. On the minus side we.. * had snow. ** sick students and mentors dropping left and right *** broken parts, wires, IR devices, We were dancing with Murphy all morning on Friday. On the plus side we... :) met many warm, passionate and humorous people. witnessed and were part of some of the most competitive rounds we have ever seen this early in the season. :D were part of a great alliance with 67 and 420 in the quarters and semis. Thanks to team 67 for giving us a shot. We especially want to thank the judges for picking our design for the Xerox Creativity in Design Award. Additional thanks to teams for their team awards. Congratulations to the winning alliance and all the award winners. Good luck for the rest of the season. You are all what makes FIRST great. Thanks for letting us share in it. |

* Competition - terrific and very competitive teams * Organization - everything ran very well * Venue - thanks RIT * Volunteers - you all make it happen * Friendliness of teams - the event feels like one big family having a reunion Congratulations to GRR Team 340 on the Regional Chairman's Award. Thanks for the goodie bags at the hotel! We were honored to have you guys as our pit neighbors! Also, we want to thank Jason Rees for the nice send off he gave us on our bus as we were braving the snow and ice-covered Rochester roads on the trip home. You guys are a great team! Congrats to Rolling Thunder 1511 on receiving the Engineering Inspiration Award. You guys are doing wonderful things to inspire. Keep it up! Winning alliance - 20, 191, 2053, 174 - you guys rocked! We had tough matches against you in the semis. You all executed a great game strategy. Thanks to the co-emcees, Steve Warren and John V Neun! It was great having you both work this regional (and JVN, I like your new checkered bandana)! MOE 365 would like to thanks 1507 for selecting us as their partner for theelims. Also, a big thanks to our third partner, T-Rx 145! You both made fantastic partners and were great to work with. MOE really loves the FLR regional. dam 191, it sucks that your arm busted, hope you can fix it =O moe, your robot is amazing, I thought we would go 2 and out against it congrats to 340 and 1511! :D even though it took us 5 hours to get home last night, I'd do it all over again ^.^ |
Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional
I'm working on getting some of the matches on the internet as soon as possible...
Just so you know - While the cable cast quality was a little on the poor side to begin with I have set my recorder to capture it at the highest quality possible as a result the file size will be fairly big. -Fridays Opening Ceremony is captured. :) -Fridays Award Ceremony was cut off by mcc broadcasting (yell at mcc not me) - I do have saturdays award ceremony captured. :) - Saturdays opening ceremony is captured - I should have fridays footage matches, ceremonies, and so on, on the internet by this weekend. - I should have saturday's footage on the internet by the weekend after this weekend. |
Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional
I would like to thank the Warlocks and Moe for picking us for their final alliance partner. I would also like to thank Moe once again for letting us barrow your Bimba air cylinder. With out that we wouldn't of been able to compete.

Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional
What a regional this was this year! This is the first regionals we've won in six years, and I'm overly excited for our team. Overall, this year's one of the best.
I'm disappointed for 191 because their arm broke after the first match in finals, I hope you guys get that fixed soon! It'd be a shame to not see you guys at Nationals. Thank you VERY much to team 2043/Tigertronics. They lent us an extra robot controller after ours was ripped and destroyed during a match (which was the reason why we were incapacitated during one of our matches). I'm glad you guys are on our alliance this year. Team 365/MOE, you guys were a tough one to beat. Your robot was great this year, I'm sure you all worked hard on it. & congratulations to teams 340 and 1511! |

Also, i dont know if there is a video up, but when 272 shot their ball over the middle divider and it hit 1126's ball and stopped it from scoring, It had to have been the best play there for me :)

Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional
I won't pretend to speak for the rest of Team 1507, but I'm sure they'll express similar sentiments...
After having most of our team turned back to the school by the snow and a cranky school bus driver, we scrambled to get just a drive team there. I know I was pleasantly surprised that despite that, we did so well. Many, many thanks to all the teams who came up to us and offered help, even if it was just to cheer for us and make up for the lack of our team in the stands. It was hard making alliance decisions. Choosing MOE was a great choice, but there could have been many other equally good choices. T-RX was a great partner too. I wasn't closely involved in the decision making, but I know a lot of close choices were involved. Both teams had a good chemistry with our drivers and we're proud of how we all played, even if we were eliminated. Congratulations to the winning alliance 191, 20, 2053 and 174. Thanks to our neighbor team, 378, the Circuit Stompers. We were rooting for you in the final round, congrats on the silver and thanks for helping us load our trailer. See you at GTR! We had a long, harrowing ride home through the snow, but afaik we all made it back safely. We'll look forward to next year's FLR - hopefully without the snowstorm! |
Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional

there was also the part when MOE was falling and the track ball fell on the top of the middle wall and rolled close to the overpass. If only it landed on the overpass that would have been the most incredible thing ever. FLR got so much fun at the Elims. Good times! |

Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional
I would like to say thanks to all that took part in FLR. That was a great event. Nice, clean, fun venue. Great teams. Great matches. Great old friends. Great new friends.
Then there was the snow. You guys even throw a great snow storm!! The team drove thru the night and arrived home about 5:30 this morning. Some of the mentors (that didn't get to sleep all day like the bus driver) spent the night in Rochester and drove home today. But it was well worth all the trouble. Team 67 had a blast. This was a very competitive regional for being so early in the season. Congratulations to the winning alliance and all the other seven that put up a good fight. Thanks to our partners, Team 272, and Team 424. We had a great alliance. Congratulations to our old friends on Team 340 with the RCA and Team 1511 with their EI win. Good luck to both of you in Atlanta. And to Team 2340. What a start in your rookie year. Keep up the good work. Thanks also to Team 365 and Team 191, fellow Hall Of Famers, for being so friendly. Did you notice that all the HOF teams were in the Quarter Finals? Great job. Thanks, again, FLR for a great time. |

I agree - what an event!!!
Just out of curiosity - how did everyone feel about the bleachers? It did keep everyone a little bit further away from the field, but I thought the trade off of easier, more seating, more professional looking, and safer was well worth it. |

What can I say. Despite the weather FLR rocked again this year. It was great to see some old friends again. On behalf of 340 I would like to thank 1503 & 316 for selecting us. I would also like to thank 67 & 272 for selecting 424, also us.
Congrats to 1511 for the EI. I know our team has the utmost respect for your group. To 1126, 378, & 1551 you guys rocked. To 191, 1507, 20, & 2053 you made a great winning alliance. It is a great story to have 2 original teams work together. MOE, you are an inspiration. A true example of what FIRST is all about. It was nice to share a pit with you. My kids couldn't stop talking about it. Thanks to Ricky for all of your help. We can't wait to see you guys again in Atlanta. I'm glad to hear you made it home. That goes for all teams. Thanks to all of the volunteers for making the event as well run of an event that I have ever been to. You truly make the FLR a home regional. Finally I want to thank my team. You guys make me proud. Kate, congrats on the WFA. To all of my mentors & Justin I couldn't pull this off without you. It was great to spend a few days with some old friends & make some new ones. |
Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional
I would like to say thanks to both 191 and 2053 who when we (team 20) were in desperate need of a new robot controller, which had been ripped apart during our last qualification match, went above and beyond and shared with us there robot controllers. It was an even extra special moment to have shared a regional championship with those two great teams that helped us out in such a big way. Even cooler was to get to team up with another founding team. Also a special thanks to 174 who came up big when they were called in to action in the final matches. Without you three teams none of this would have been possible so THANK YOU! :)
Thank you to all of the teams and volunteers team 20 had a great time at our first FLR and look forward to coming back and joining you all again next year. |
Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional
FLR this year was simply amazing. First off, I would like to say to both of my teams 340 & 424, that I am extremely proud of all of you. You guys faced some tough obstacles and handled them extremely well. Also, all of our mentors and our amazingly dedicated team leader Jason Rees for their work all season so far and we are all so grateful.
MOE, you guys are exactly what a national CA team should be. You guys would jump at the chance to help anyone with anything and I was so honored to see your team in action next to us in the pits. I cannot tell you how much we appreciated having your endorsement for Chairman's, it's very humbling. You guys also brought a great robot again and I'm sure all teams that attend FLR want to have you guys back every year. 65,67,68, thanks for trekking all the way to Rochester. We loved having you guys there and it really gave FLR almost a championship feel. Having you guys there brought another National Chairman's award team as well as two national Woodie Flowers award winners. I hope you guys had a good enough time to consider coming back next year. 1126, You guys know we love you and we were really pulling for you in the finals. I hope we can get together with you guys soon and go bowling or something. Thank you to 1503 and 316 for being awesome alliance partners. Congrats to 1511 for your deserving EI award. 2 EI's and a CA award in three years is amazing. Congrats to 20,191,2053 and 145. You guys were an amazing alliance and I hope you all can make it to championship. A special congrats to Kate Nordland on her WFA. GRR loves you volunteer goddess! A big thank you to the entire planning committee for their tireless efforts to ensure that FLR was a great event and it was executed wonderfully. Last but not least, I'd like to thank all the volunteers for their dedicated and hard work. The judges and the Refs had very difficult jobs and did an amazing job. Everyone was so friendly and helpful it made the whole event awesome. I can't wait for championship! |
Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional
