2008 Finger Lakes Regional

Good Luck to all teams attending, we hope you will help FLR will continue in providing great competition. As usual, Teams 340 & 424 will be looking forward to see our fellow Rochester area teams there as well as new faces.

So who else is coming and who's pumped!?

Team 910 may be coming this year. We'd really like to try a new regional this time around besides WMR and GLR. But it looks like FLR is filling up fast.

MOE 365 has grabbed one of the last slots for FLR! We had a great time last year and expect the same again in 2008. Looking forward to seeing and playing with y'all.

Last year they said there were spots for 40+ teams.
FIRST always seems to expand the capacity of the regionals a little later so don't give up yet if you don't get in.

5 Rochester teams, boo if they dont make it in.
im sure they will be making room for the locals to make it.

I heard form a little birdie, the reason from the MI teams is that they don't want to do back to back regionals and FLR is closest for week 2. it's still a sweet thing, im looking forward to it.

Magic...

Actually
The list is in my head...

Well actually I have kept track of every team that has ever attended the FLR. I looked at that list and guestimated. I can't say for certain if there are any teams on the wait list. If I remember there was a pending number of 6 or 7 and 1 open spot on Sunday. HOT joined us and that leaves a number of wait list teams.

I now see that there are 34 teams registered the, 2 new ones are:
1405 Hoselton/OCM Technical Services, Inc./Crosby-Brownlie, Inc. & The Charles Finney High School
1585 Discount Tent Renter & Red Jacket High School

If FIRST sticks to their norm they hold a number of spots for late registering rookies. I know we were working on getting the Syracuse area to recruit new teams & there have been no rookies to register yet, I don't know if there will be. Of course we know better than to hold FIRST to their "norm".

If there is an area that could use expansion, it's Syracuse.

On November 8th there will be unrestricted registration for additional regionals and I bet you'll see the regionals suddenly expand their capacity. And all those teams that could not get in before should be able to get in then.

I really hope so. We were really looking forward to trying out a new regional and visiting you guys out east. I suppose it's just a matter of waiting and seeing what happens.

This is 174's Atlanta year. We always go to Buckeye and we interchange Atlanta and FLR. Not sure why we rather dive an additional 5 hours...but I think we do better and those at Buckeye remember us more. It's all the way the Teacher Mentors see it...

I, however, will be at FLR and be volunteering again (and holding some things to give out...like cards...hee hee)

Apparently Victor made the same exact move as my team did. I know for certain that it's very expensive for Fairport's team to travel anywhere, because of the massive team size of 60 students.

Fairports aware of the problem, and they are going to try and see what they can do within the next week. Accepting such a large team is going to be very challenging for Finger Lakes so we will see what happens. Hopefully Fairport/Victor can get in, they are 20 minutes away from the RIT Campus.

Finger Lakes Regional at the Blue Cross Arena by 2012?

Looks like most of the teams on Jason's list got in. Looks like 772 and 467 decided to go someplace else.

Odd...174 chose FLR and Boston this year rather than the usuals. They are up to something and I have yet to get a good explanation from them yet. At least they are getting into other regionals.

You leave a team for three years and everything you know changes for the good. Why on earth would they want to do that? haha.

They probably passed on Buckeye because it wasn't as impressive as in previous years. FLR is looking more like Buckeye did last year than Buckeye is now.

Maybe it is the date change?
We used to go to GLR and Midwest, but with the dates changing and problems arising, we havnt been to midwest in 3 years.

I think all teams deep down inside want to come to the Finger Lakes Regional! But only a few are lucky enough to have it fit into their plans! Those of us in the Rochester area are really fortunate that it is close and accessible to us!

I'm looking for one or two people to share a hotel room with for Thursday and/or Friday. I already have one roommate.
PM me if you are interested.
I'll be booking the room this weekend. Currently looking at the Hampton Inn South.

Thank you for the ride. :)

Information regarding team social will come out very soon, some other surprises you'll have to wait for.

There has to be some kind of a cliffhanger, otherwise FLR 08' won't be as much fun.

I'm so excited for the FLR Regional. Rochester's one of my favorite cities, and the regional is always so much fun. It probably helps that we have so many really energetic teams every year. Team 145 is very excited to come!

I think that's a given at FLR every year. I want to see FLR get the high score this year, though. I'm sure there is enough talent at the regional to it!:D

Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional

I just hope we dont have a team not able to compete because of stuff like what we had last year. With that one team who had probs with their gearbox

indeed, it was not a good thing to have to see.

Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional

FLR has an excellent pedigree going with three HOF teams (67,191,and 365) four former national champions{65,67,73,and 365) and two original FIRST teams (20 and 191. I'm not sure if 250 counts) and a set of consistent strong performing teams who have won numerous regionals and awards.
And in my opinion the most spirited regional out there.
It's gonna be a blast!

Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional

I agree with u on all those points Ed!! And for a little regional we got alot of spirit!!! thanks to teams like X-Cats, GRR, and MOE:D

DarkFlame145 23-02-2008 20:57

Re: 2008 Finger Lakes Regional

I would also have to agree, it's a high energy regional.

Ummm, Kevin...there is no team 596 that I can find listed as registered for the Finger Lakes Regional. 596 doesn't seem to be registered for any event for 2008, at all! Are you rockin' this year without a robot?

kevin.li.rit 23-02-2008 22:55

You'll see someone with a 596 shirt.

And will that person be rockin'? :)

I have shirts from lots of teams, but even if I layer them all on at once (45, and 25 and 1529 and 1732 and 1511...) I'd still only say that 1511 will be at FLR! And we will be Rollin'! :yikes:

That's cause you're only on 1511.

That's about enough. Can we keep this topic to discussing the Finger Lakes Regional and the teams that will be there?

It's built for spirit, Dylan. Though it would be nice if they dumped the portable bleachers this year and opened up the stands behind it so it could open up the floor on the other side and have more seats for the patrons.
