Kamen/DARPA's Bionic Arm on Video

Engadget found another cool video of the "much-publicized" robotic arm project headed up by Dean and DARPA. We've seen a couple of these already, but check it out, 8 minutes of interviews and actual lab footage of the arm. The articulation/feedback that the arm already has is just mindblowing; more than ever, this thing really is the way of the future.

watched the video, obviously the video is quite amateur, nothing official, so there were a few tests that didnt seem to show off its true elegance, but it is still very impressive.

Nice job! I am on an undergraduate research team right now that's trying to figure out a mechanism that will further improve upon the control of that prosthetic.

I'm curious as to whether this prosthetic is EEG or EMG controlled and I would like to see some of the sensor array and processing algorithms used in this prosthetic. We're not copying DEKA--we're just trying to see where they are struggling and hopefully find a niche within that. PS: Does DEKA give out grant money to undergraduate teams and how might we be able to apply for it?

Dean dropped by the San Diego Regional event 3-8-08 and showed us all an updated video clip of the arm. There was a man with both his arms to the shoulders gone, the new arm was on his left and the mad was eating what looked like a bowl of cereal. Dean said that his mom said he hadn't feed himself in over 2 years. It darn near brought a tear to my eye. Dean and his group of engineers are amazing! If Dean comes to your regional event I hope he brings with him that video clip we say in San Diego.
