Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
As I read this thread I cannot help but think about those "Black Friday" commercials where the lady is standing in front of the store saying "OPEN! OPEN! OPEN! OPEN!" The only difference here is that you people are saying "UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE!" or "REFRESH! REFRESH! REFRESH! REFRESH! REFRESH!" LOL Although most of you are in high school you remind me of my 6 year old daughter waiting for Santa on Christmas eve.

Hmm, remind me again...balls have to be removed from the overpass to be considered in play, therefore if a ball never left the overpass it doesn't count for the endgame correct?

Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
1511 looks fairly quick. Not too much action right now.
|
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
Note: 1811 (1611? 1511?), by plowing thru traffic, was able to do 4 laps in 60 seconds...not too shabby
|
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
seems to me like teams are having some hard time removing the trackballs.
The winner has for now been always decided by balls left on the overpass in the end of the game... |
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
There were some fast robots in that last match, and the fastest one (sorry, can't see team #s) also appeared to clothesline itself in the overpass.

Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
The webcast is up and running. We had a couple issues earlier, but now is all well. It is difficult to orchestrate this stuff when I'm 1300+ miles away. :p So far, so good.
You can use http://nj.webcast.soap108.com/ which redirects to the proper stream url. Enjoy! |
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
WOW! a shooters almost had it, but lost the ball last sec...:(
|
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
was that the same same bot that helped the red team robot get unstuck from the overpass?
|
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
I HEAR DISTURBED.. FOR THE WIN! lol never heard disturbed at a region be4 yay :) im so happy right now haha
|
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
There's a very fast robot with bright blue bumpers who I foresee racking up a lot of points in rough-handling penalties tomorrow if their drivers don't start being a bit more courteous. They plowed into several robots at full speed trying to complete laps.
Edit: 2016, looks like. Very fast robot (5 laps in the match I watched), but my impression was they were a bit lax in avoiding slower traffic. Edit2: ooo, low-number match coming up. |
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
HURDLE SIGHTING!!!! Who was that?
|
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
woohoo! 2 hurdles!
i think it's 1980 also one of the bots tried to shoot, but hasn't got high enough... |

|
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
I can't connect to the webcast... :(
|
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
Hurdle by the scissor-lift team with red bumpers!
Edit: Haha, there's a short member of the field-reset team having trouble getting the balls back up. Although I guess you don't have to be that short to have trouble reaching the overpass with a 40" ball. |
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
Yay another hurdle!
I wonder when we'll see the 4x or 5x hurdles/match |
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
That scissor lift was FAST!
|
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
That was a fast lift, wonder if something went wrong since it took a while to lower it and go again.
|
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
the scissor lift bot has a fast lift, but looks like it got stuck coming back down
|

Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
Not seeing a whole lot of "bumping to pass" going down...
A lot of high speed collisions though. Intentional or no, it's impossible to tell. Still on the fence on whether or not those are going to be called as penalties... These practice sessions are getting rough. No rougher than past years, but a lot rougher than I'd thought, since there was a lot of effort in the rules to tone down the contact this year. |

two hurdles by the scissor lift bot
|
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
Really loving the music here!
That siscorlift robot is very good at hurdling and 11 had 5 laps =D This is very exciting |
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
11 + 25 ... gonna be a good match against 104 + 1279

|
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
$@#$@#$@#$@# 25 is a good tosser, though i do see them getting a ball as a problem later on in the game. ditto with their whole auton strategy...

Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
Interesting to see 25 fail the one hurdle, looks like they either need a pretty good velocity or to be really close to the overpass to hurdle, may be interesting when pilups occur around their finish line.
|
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
25 was good.
turns out their strategy for picking up balls works great.... they had 1 bad shot though. |
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
wow 1547 is fast... 7 laps
go waldo |
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
Haha, 1547 looks like it is barely bigger than its battery.
Wow, 25 is amazing. Though it was interesting to see them stopped by a slower robot in their runup. |
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
Someone needs to give 25 a few pool noodles...
|
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
Are they not running the practice match schedule outlined in the FIRST manual? They might be behind and wanting to speed it up, I have just started watching.
From The Tournament: The first five minutes of each practice match will start with a 15-second hybrid period, followed by a “free-form” session, in which the ROBOTS may be exercised to evaluate operational characteristics, gain driver experience, determine system robustness, etc. During this five-minute period robots avoid robot-to-robot interaction. (15 sec Hybrid, 4:45 Teleop) The second five minutes of each practice match will be conducted as a “competition match” with approximately two minutes for set up, two minutes and fifteen seconds of regular game play (including operations), and one minute to clear the field. (Normal Match) |
Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
Sweet 1547 =P
Waldo's speed and size will be good for 7+ laps a match, even in traffic! |

Re: 2008 New Jersey Regional
4 hurdles by 25, last one almost got placed on overpass.
awesome robot, awesome drivers, awesome Hybrid. |
