Re: 2008 IRI (Indiana Robotics Invitational)

This weekend was incredible. After each IRI event I think it can't get any better, but every year is better than the last.

Congrats to 1625, 1024, 1126, and 1731. Both matches were extremely hard fought.

Thanks to 330 for accepting our invitation, we alway love playing with our friends from the West Coast.

987..thanks for being an awesome team player. Our communication was awesome, and you guys saved us more than a couple times.

68 - Thanks for supporting the alliance.. I wish we would have been able to get you into a match...I know you guys would have done a great job.

Also, thanks to everyone that congratulated us at the event....it seemed like alot of people were happy for us, and that made our team feel really great.

I know we couldn't believe it last night...and I still can't believe we are 2008 IRI Champs! :yikes:

See you next year!

Not our best moment but we thought we'd get a penalty if we kept their trackball, and in the panic the driver just shot it. We got a lot of laughs...and a safety warning, but had our arm been working I think it would have been a better match up.

Thanks to everyone for making IRI awesome.

That match wasn't really planned out on our side to be so defensive. We played with the strategy of all 3 robots hurdling if there was an opportunity. We (171) were having problems removing balls, so 27 was going to take care of that. Their arm mechanism failed, so they went on the defensive with 93, who had already cornered a ball. 171 ended up stuck in the corner as well and got out in time to get a hurdle and a place following 330's ball removals. 93 stayed on defense as their arm wasn't working due to what we later found out was a completely destroyed potentiometer that was barely hanging on by wires.

It was a good way to go out.

Wow! Best IRI EVER! Complete with Andy showing off his pig farmer skills! :ahh:

Thanks everybody that helped to put this event together and make it happen... again, a sweeping success!

Hopefully you all enjoyed the Kil-A-Bites you all purchased at the concession stands, didn't get TOO annoyed with Albert the Road Barrel, and enjoyed the "Super Cool LEDs by 1024".

Also, thanks to Lockheed Martin for allowing us to help them present 5th Gear to all of you at IRI.

It was a fabulous friday and saturday and a great way to end my FIRST career (as a student! don't worry, I'll be back... ;)).

Best wishes,

-q

It was a great event and I'm sad to be home. The matches were so exciting that sometimes all I could do was say "wow".
Although, I must admit it was weird seeing Dave Lavery not in Hawaiian shirts. It felt like something was missing.

IRI exceeded my expectations in every way. The event was organized so well and ran so smoothly. It was less hectic than a regional yet much more competitive than any one regional during the season. Thanks to everyone that helped organize and run the event! Special thanks to 67 for picking us, to 330 for being amazing partners, and to 68--an overqualified backup in my opinion. Congrats to all the award winners. IRI was awesome! I've graduated but I'm definitely gonna make my way out there next year!

IRI was an amazing experience for our team, hopefully we can do it again sometime. Our driver was a freshman this year and this was his first full competition. After this he should be able to handle anything.

IRI was my favorite event this year. I interviewed 30 teams and about 61 people about FIRST robotics and their expierences in it. I met loads of people and I loved how the whole thing was put together. The IRI crew did an amazing job, thank you so much for the wonderful event.

Quick question... are there any IRI shirts left... if so-how could I get one?

So what are you planning on doing with all these interviews?

I haven't seen it anywhere - could someone please post the final IRI Team Rankings?

I took pictures of the list at the end of the day on Friday but would like the final Saturday rankings.

Hopefully someone had the foresight to snap some pics of the rankings screen and can post them up to CD.

If anybody has pictures from the DSK show on Friday to share, could they send them to me via email? webmaster@ this site.

Thanks!

Thanks!

er... I was taking pictures for Andy and Chris this past weekend and I took over 200 pictures of the DSK show alone... I'm going to start editing all of my pictures in a little while (over 2,500 of them) to get rid of the "blurry despite flash" ones, the "someone moved to fast and now I have a picture of an empty stage" ones, and the "blurry because I wanted to experiment without flash" ones, and the artistic, "what the heck is that" ones. With all that, I think there will still be too many to just e-mail *unless e-mailed in small batches* but I'm sure I could get some to you somehow!

This was the first year our team has been to IRI and it was by far the best event we have gone to in all of the three years that we have been in FIRST. Thanks to 1024 for picking us! And also to 1625 and 1126. What a great alliance! It was an honor to be your back-up. :) Congrats to the IRI winners! You all played some tough Overdrive! :)

(Quick Question: Did they ever run the ball randomizer during qualifications?)

They ran the randomizer during Eliminations. During Qualifications we (field reset) were instructed to place the balls up randomly after the red alliance was introduced.
