So, when will volunteer assignments be sent out? Last year I got my assignment the Sunday before the event. Maybe this year we can get it a few days sooner?

Doubtful as they usually only show educational IMAX films, but the IMAX on the south side of Indy will absolutely be playing the movie. Pretty sure it's sold out already though, at least for opening night. Look up Kerasotes 16 though.

On Thursday night at 12:02 a.m. there is a showing of 'The Dark Night' at the KeraSotes on 4325 S. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46217

If you go to fandango.com, you should be able to buy tickets in advance.

Hey guys,

I'm working on a media project about FIRST and I was hoping that at IRI I would be able to interview some people about their team, FIRST, the game this year, and how FIRST has inspired you. If you would be interested in being interviewed please PM me and I'll give you some of the questions that would be asked. Oh and...if you see a girl in a yellow cape from 1675 with a video camera taking video of random teams, this is what it's for, she's not crazy and hasn't lost her team.

IRI Volunteers should have been notified via email about the volunteer assignements. I beleive there was a problem with email forwarding this year and I may not have received everyone's request. If there were people interested in volunteering who did not recieve and email from me confirming their assignement, please let me know ASAP and I will add you to the list.

Thanks and can't wait to see you all this week!

The matches will be recorded at the very least, I don't know if someone is going to be uploading them immediately but they should be uploaded eventually.

Also, if you're interviewed during the event on camera, don't worry too much about it. We're trying a gameday style coverage where we'll produce a few videos throughout the day and play them, and also pick the top 5 plays of the day. Stay tuned.

Er, yeah, this is in addition to the stuff that's usually done with an Emcee and Game Announcer, incase that caused any confusion.

I will be attending the IRI event and can provide the SOAP video recordings and upload them to the web. However, I haven't heard anything about a webcast. Is there going to be one? If not, is there a demand for one and should I also provide that as well? You guys let me know. Thanks.

Just wanted to let everyone know that 341, 217 & 122 will be showing matches from IRI at the Farnborough International Air Show in the UK this coming weekend.

Hopefully IRI will inspire a whole new genration of FIRST teams in the UK for 2009.

Don't want to take the thread off topic, so if you want to learn more about Farnborough the link is here

Just thought you might want to know that we will be watching over in England. Good luck to all of the teams at IRI this weekend.

You can add Team 70 to the list of attendees, filling one of those *pending* spots. This was verified by an IRI planner, as well as JackN in the IRI FF thread.

Last I had been told, the IRI guys were still trying to fill that last *pending* spot. No word yet.

Hey folks,

When you're not out on the competition field doing some stupendous scoring with your real robots...

Or if you are one of those talented folks who put the drivers behind the joysticks; but are also looking for a chance prove you too have the right stuff....

Visit the IRI's "IRI Expo - Companies and Colleges" area near the practice field and the pits. There you should find an installation of the 6-player, Overdrive simulation (aka 5thGear ).

Here is a photo The 2008 NASA/VCU FRC Regional 5thGear World Champions:)

This is only 5thGear's second public appearance since it was a big hit on the NASA/VCU FRC Regional's Technology Row. Who knows how long it might be before it makes its next appearance - You had better grab a couple of friends to form a 3-person alliance and strike this weekend while the iron is hot.

And - In a new, IRI-only, wrinkle - The alliance with the highest 5thGear score when the Pig-Kissing contest donations are tallied up, gets to deposit a pair of twenties into the Pig-Kissing bucket of their choice, complements of Dave and Blake! Use those two Andrew Jacksons to put your nominee over the top!

Quote:

Dear Nyrds

We've been on tour and our engines have been pumping to get back to
IRI. Dean's been driving for what seems to be ages. I'm surprised that
we haven't been pulled over for breaking at least a few laws. The other
day the van broke down and was smoke that came from the motor. While we were
waiting for things to cool down, it started raining. We took the hint
and pulled out our umbrellas and had a snack. Can't wait to get back to
good 'ol IRI and play some of our favorite songs to our favorite fans who definitely got it goin' on

Jon,

If your (or anyone else's... ) camera is mobile and you happen to get a quick break in your primary recording job; do you think you might be able to catch one or two matches of the Overdrive simulation/game (aka 5th Gear) going on over by the IRI Expo area?

Dave, David and I would love decent recordings of a couple of the matches played there.

2194, 93, and 1675 have all arrived safely at the Suburban, near IRI. It's fun having lots of teams on the bus, as well as having enough tools to fix the pneumatics on the bus... :P See everyone tomorrrow!!!

The venue is set up and ready to go. Many robots are already in the building and appear to be in great condition. Competition will be amazing!

The South Carolina contingent (a friend and me) have arrived safely to the Super 8. This ought to be intense.

If anyone needs an extra set of hands or two for anything, just holler. I work for buttons (or shirts. Or money in other kiss the pig contestants' buckets. ;))

The webcast looks good.

The timer bar at the bottom is translucent up till the last 15 seconds of each match. The value of the chromakey might need to be adjusted to correct this. :D

If the company I work for (and I at home) have removed RealPlayer from our computers because of security concerns, does anyone kow of a way to view the webcast without using RealPlayer?

When I followed the URL for the Wildstang webcast, and received a prompt about how to download the RealPlayer if I don't have it already; I figured that the video stream will be encoded in a Realplayer format and that I am out of luck if I want to use a non-Realplayer viewer. :( I'm hoping someone can suggest an alternative approach.

Are the referees doing laps for a specific reason?

Andy Baker was the head ref in Oklahoma City this year and he had all of us referees do laps whenever there was a penalty free match. We tried to run them a different way each time! Since it was mostly rookie teams at that regional, they all thought it was very funny and worked really hard to have penalty free matches!

Seems to be the same thing here. Remember who the head ref is...

Seems to be an error in Match 52 on TBA - lists 368 as playing both Match 52 and Match 53 (we were in 53 only).

Mannie,

Thanks - But color me confused/noobish.

The video stream from the only URL I know about (http://live.wildstang.org/iri.php) is in RealPlayer format.

Why would I care to download a QuickTime alternative installation's Windows Media Player Classic component(s)? I could understand downloading a RealPlayer-enabled alternative version of QuickTime, if one exists; but why WMP???

Blake
FYI - I have versions of both WMP and QT on both my work conputer and my home computer.

Yep.
217 treats IRI as a transition point between years. The student leaders for next year take over, and graduating seniors aren't supposed to drive. Unless I'm mistaken, Mike Copioli is coaching while Paul MC's.

From what I saw, the new drivers were doing all right (Their only loss at the hands of 1114), but there will be a difference.

I would be cautious looking at TBA. There appears to be a few errors the team numbers and scores. I don't think 1732 played in match 45...

Matches 8+9 have the same teams. Team 368 has back-to-back matches with a different set of teams, not sure why (suspect one is really 968, but not sure; didn't note match numbers). A couple of scores are odd (literally--as examples, the highest scores for teams 931 and 876). I think some teams are mis-numbered; e.g. 72 isn't there, but shows up in a match (I think that's the number).

Edit: Found some more... Match 70, who are 968107 and 12? They also have a zero score. Match 71 hopefully did not end in a 0-0 tie, but TBA has that happening. 82 and 83 have the same blue alliance and one team the same on red.

I can calculate the ranking if someone can provide me with the match scores in the following format: _(match, blue1, blue2, blue3, red1, red2, red3, bluescore, bluepen, redscore, redpen)

There are alot, ALOT of mistakes on TBA, don't judge by it!

-2149 did not attend event
-qual 18, blue didn't have 0, nor did they lose.

This is kind of WEIRD...

We got a message through our website from

Mark Leon

His message was:

I need to talk to your technical POC regarding the Saturday Uplink onto NASA TV. I will be arriving late Friday Evening.

He posted his phone number. Sounds like he is trying to contact some at IRI maybe for a video feed? If anyone in this thread knows about this, send me a PM. or and e-mail. I got his nasa e-mail and his phone.

It's going to be ugly, though...

Last I heard, the top 4 are:

16 (6-0)
330 (5-1) (leads in toughest schedule)
67 (5-1)
71 (5-1)

1114 is 9th with 68 in 10th.

Then again, 330 and 71 take on 16 and 67 tomorrow. Source is at the event...
