Re: 2007 NFL Pick-em: Week 13

Green Bay at Dallas
Shoot-out. Dallas because they can control the clock with J. Jones and M. Barber.
Detroit at Minnesota
Watch out for that Vikings D.
Seattle at Philadelphia
I like what I saw out of the Eagles. Seahawks barely got past the Rams.
San Diego at Kansas City
Let's see how Kolby Smith does against a real run D.
New York Jets at Miami
I have no sympathy for the Dolphins.
Jacksonville at Indianapolis
Despite all the injuries, Colts will still win.
San Francisco at Carolina
Patrick Willis is a beast.
Houston at Tennessee
I've lost my confidence in the Titans.
Atlanta at St. Louis
Rams are on a roll (excluding Bulger and their QB situation)
Buffalo at Washington
Tough one here, Redskins at home + a better running game.
Cleveland at Arizona
A huge shoot-out in the desert. I have to give the edge to Arizona, being the home team and they have a better defense.
Denver at Oakland
Shanahan formula: take any RB, insert into starting line-up, watch him run for 100 yards. It does help that they play the 31st ranked run D twice, though.
New York Giants at Chicago
The Giants injuries and the start of another second half collapse gives the game to the Bears. The only reason the game might be close is because Grossman is at QB...
Tampa Bay at New Orleans
Bucs have a well-rounded team and seal the deal on the NFC South.
Cincinnati at Pittsburgh
This could be a close one, if the Steelers are stupid enough to make this a trap game (New England is coming, week 14)
New England at Baltimore
The old Patriots return and run up the score as usual.

Travis Hoffman 26-11-2007 15:18

Re: 2007 NFL Pick-em: Week 13

Thursday:
Green Bay at Dallas
The Game That No One Watched (Boo to NFL Network)

Sunday:
Detroit at Minnesota
The Lions started well against Green Bay but fell apart. If they can protect the ball, I think they can beat Minnesota, but Kitna is sacked a ton and throws picks.

Seattle at Philadelphia
I officially flip this pick if Donovan McNabb starts.

San Diego at Kansas City
But goooooooooo KC.

New York Jets at Miami
Ricky Williams' Big Day?

Jacksonville at Indianapolis
The Brownies need Jacksonville to fall to improve their playoff chances.

San Francisco at Carolina
San Fran didn't win last week so much as Arizona bumbled the game away.

Houston at Tennessee
But of course I'm a Texan fan this week.

Atlanta at St. Louis
If he plays, Gus Frerrote could lose this game all by himself if he isn't careful.

Buffalo at Washington

Cleveland at Arizona
This is a trap game, but if lowly San Francisco can beat this team, geez. If the Browns' secondary holds up as well as it did in the 2nd half against Houston, they've got a good shot at taking this game. Arizona's clock "management" may gift-wrap a victory for the Brownies regardless.

Denver at Oakland
Which division is worse - AFC West or NFC West? Horrible.

New York Giants at Chicago
DO NOT KICK TO DEVIN HESTER. DO NOT KICK TO DEVIN HESTER. Dummies.

Tampa Bay at New Orleans

Cincinnati at Pittsburgh
It could happen.

Monday:
New England at Baltimore - OK my disgust for Brian Billick and the Ravens trumps my disgust for the Patriots this week.

Forgot about Thursday :(

Week 13
Thursday:
Green Bay at Dallas

Sunday:
Detroit at Minnesota
Detroit sweeps the series
Seattle at Philadelphia
If McNabb is out Eagles win, if not then Seattle takes it.
San Diego at Kansas City
KC was good for a while, but they lose this one.
New York Jets at Miami
Give the 'Fins their first win of the season
Jacksonville at Indianapolis
Indy has too many injuries, and Jax is coming into their own.
San Francisco at Carolina
Last week was a fluke for San Fran
Houston at Tennessee
Tennessee's D has gotten repulsive w/o Haynesworth.
Atlanta at St. Louis
I don't like either of these teams, but St Louie should take it.
Buffalo at Washington
Buffalo has been having problems lately, If the Skin's are there emotionally they'll win.
Cleveland at Arizona
Last week was a fluke for Arizona, they won't score that many again.
Denver at Oakland
Oakland got their first divisional win in about 3 years last week, time to start the streak over.
New York Giants at Chicago
Bleh, could I care less about this? I think not.
Tampa Bay at New Orleans
TB is going to win NFC South, I said it early in the year, and I'm sticking to it.
Cincinnati at Pittsburgh
Do I even have to say it?

Monday:
New England at Baltimore
New England WILL lose, just not to someone who can't score.

Pittsburgh lost games by 7 to Arizona(late return), 3 to Denver(last second field goal) and 3 to the Jets(overtime) I would think they made those interesting games. . .

So essentially the Steelers went down with a whimper in those games as each of your opponents embarrassed you late. Pittsburgh didn't make them interesting - their OPPONENTS did.

And even though they weren't losses, I'd add the 3-0 embarrassment that was the Miami game and the "please beat us cincy, we want you to win this, really" game from last night as examples of sloppy, uninspired, winning by the skin of your teeth gameplay. ZZZZZZZ.

Browns on the other hand, despite the mistakes they've made (mainly Anderson's fault in 3 of the losses - dude needs to stop the Jekyll and Hyde routine) have lost to Arizona on a last second TD throw to Winslow negated by the refs (he WAS pushed out and would have landed straight down in bounds had he not been contacted), drove for a last second game winning field goal they MADE and then lost due to the Shanahan timeout tomfoolery Oakland used against them, and made a thrilling last second push down the field against the Steelers (including an absolutely stupid decision on the Stealers' part to kick to Cribbs) only to have a long field goal just miss. That, and unlike most teams in the league except for Indy and Philly, they managed to give the Pats some heart palpitations and aggravate their fans during that game.

The Stealers are winning very ugly despite their mistakes. The Browns are losing "well" despite their mistakes (mostly attributed to a single player they have someone waiting in the wings to replace), if there is such a concept. The difference? A measly 2 wins. Considering the teams' recent histories and reputations, I like the way the Brownies have played, even in most defeats. I also like the way the Browns' defense has been improving in recent weeks, even with the mounting injuries on the D-line and secondary. And I'm ECSTATIC with their absolutely AWESOME offensive line play. So yeah, I'll take it. But if Anderson keeps up his good cop/bad cop routine, I'd like to see Brady Quinn before the year is out.

So yes, Browns fans have many great reasons to be happy and encouraged despite their losses. Steelers fans should be concerned and aggravated at their team's play despite their winning.

We'll see what happens when Pittsburgh plays New England next week. They match up like Philly did against them, so they'll have a chance to make it interesting. But if they turn the ball over and let New England's D turn Roethlisberger into a pinata as Pittsburgh's offensive line is wont to do, it'll be a long day.

Hey man I'm a Steelers fan! I was just explaining to Travis that our combined losses were by 13 while the Browns are somewhere in the 50s.

Not to long ago Browns fans (including you!) were calling this guy your savior. Not only did he blow the game yesterday for the Brownies (He had help from many others as well), he went flat in the second half against Pittsburgh, made mistakes against New England and many other games. This guy is what ever other Browns Qb has been since they came back - Garbage.

As for my team the Steelers. Last night against the Bengals I regained my confidence in the offense. Now i know Willie Parker fumbled a few times but it was wet and he made some poor handling decisions. Roethlisberger marched them up and down the field when he had to and made good throws in and out of the pocket. The defense held the number 3 passing offense to 183 yards and stuffed the run game. I throw the Miami game out because of the field (http://youtube.com/watch?v=x7DTNEa2E7w), but I feel like this team - especially offensively is on its way back to what it should be. Plus Roethlisberger wasn't sacked once for a change.

So....the Steelers are 2 games above garbage level? Good to know.

Anderson's not garbage - he's inconsistent, but he's shown he has the arm and the ability to lead the team if his head's in the game. He's certainly done enough to generate enough interest from other teams (Miami would kill for a halfway decent QB) to net the Browns a 1st and 3rd round pick if he's signed away as a restricted free agent. Plus he's been money in my fantasy leagues.

He's also worth keeping around awhile to push Brady Quinn until he actually proves he's worth something - he certainly did extremely well in the preseason.

So uh since the Browns beat Baltimore twice, does that mean they're better than New England if the Pats lose to the Ravens tonight? I say absolutely yes.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that they should forfeit the season, but I'll definitely agree with the calling. The penalty yards on the Ravens compared to the Patriots are just obscene, and that last drive was stomach churning.

Granted it made for some good excitement (IMO the Bills/Cowboys game was a better game), but seriously...the Ravens had that game, and the refs took it from them.

Man, someone get me what you guys are smoking. It must be pretty good.

Im totally neutral. I gravitate towards disliking the Pats just because I can (don't like Brady, don't like Moss, think Bellichick is an arrogant you know what)

Every penalty in the last 3 minutes was legit. Watson was CLEARLY being held on that 4th down play. Totally the right call. Billick blew the game for Baltimore when he called that TO.

The TD was questionable. I thought it wasn't a catch. HOWEVER, once a call is made on the field, indisputable evidence must exist that the call was not correct. There was no way, imo, that what was shown on the replays was indisputable. It looked like at the exact moment that his back foot hit the ground, the ball shifted to his other hand. No way you can say outright it was a bad call. At any rate, that wasn't on the refs. That was the replay official in the booth.

Scott (number 57) was a total idiot, though. I thought he should have been tossed. You can't commit a foul, get pissed for committing a foul, pickup the flag, throw it in the stands, and then try to get into a punching match with the referee. Complete and utter stupidity on Baltimore's part to get 35 yards worth of penalties prior to the kickoff.

Finally, on the final play of the game, BALTIMORE committed blatant pass interference when the receiver downright tackled a NE DB while the ball was coming in. That play went uncalled.

Contending that the referees decided the outcome of this game is TOTALLY out of line with reality. Baltimore totally collapsed, and made incredibly stupid mental errors down the stretch when it counted the most, and the Patriots capitalized.

Re: 2007 NFL Pick-em: Week 13

NFL cheating to help the Patriots? You're kidding me right? Honestly people. And I suppose that the second shooter was watching the game with his Roswell alien buddies and laughing about how George Bush planned 9/11. Because this conspiracy theory belongs right up there with those.
Maybe we should let the refs do their job, and call the game as they see it, from the field mind you. I'm sure we have a spectacular vantage here from our couches and know the rulebook better than the professionals. Good thing too, considering how the NFL is paying the refs to make the wrong calls.
Come on....

well refs make bad calls all the time... I usually chalk it up to incompetence, or bad angles to view plays from :-p

Technically it wasn't Billick that called for the TO, it was the defensive coordinator, and according to the rules only a player on the field or the Head Coach can call for a Time Out, so the refs screwed that one, but that's neither here or there...it's over and done with, so it's up to someone else to beat the Pats.

If it's going to be anyone, I'm rooting for Giants Week 17.

WAIT WAIT WAIT!!!

Are you serious? Have you not heard numerous coaches (and yes hall of fame coaches) come out in the defense of the Patriots and state that video viewing has been going on for a long time in the NFL (and yes during halftime), along with other forms of cheating that they even used?

If you are going to bring up the video scandle, why not bring up the Colts Sound System "Issues" which seem to only happen when there opponents have the ball at home? (or did you forget that)

And refs can't be perfect. Let say that 3 rookies are going against Beatty, Simbots, and Thunderchickens. Lets say its tight right down to the wire, but the refs give the "Big" alliance a penalty (which shouldn't have been called) and the rookies go on to win (The "big" alliance would have won had the penalty not been called). Should these rookies forfiet there season because of the refs?

No. Refing is not always perfect and will never be perfect because humans can not be.

The patriots find a way to win, and they do that (why penalize them for that?) Its not rational at all...

I don't remember any coaches coming out in the Patriots defense. I don't think any hall of fame coach would do that anyway.

CBS apologized for a sound system issue after the colts game and here it is:

"In reference to questions regarding the audio transmission of yesterday’s game, please refer to the following statement from the NFL:

CBS has informed us that the unusual audio moment heard by fans during the Patriots-Colts game was the result of tape feedback in the CBS production truck and was isolated to the CBS broadcast. It was in no way related to any sound within the stadium and could not be heard in the stadium.

We trust this will put an end to the ridiculous and unfounded accusations that the Colts artificially enhanced crowd noise at the RCA Dome in any way."

Really, you guys don't think anyone has ever cheated in a professional sporting event? I do think it was wrong for the Pats to videotape the opponents signals, but they were punished already (lost first round pick). The Colts-Pats game was one of the worst officiated game I have ever seen. Ellis Hobbs got called for the obvious pass interference of Reggie Wayne by get tackled by him. Also, I don't know if you guys know the Omaha audible of the Pats, if I remember correctly they send a man in motion. I bet you guys are wondering how I know that, CBS made sure I did by zooming in and turning up the volume on Tom Brady's mike. Thanks CBS now I know what that means, I am sure all of the other coaches in the league are glad to have heard that as well. The NFL does not want the most unlikable team in football history to be the only 19-0 team. It is about the same as the MLB and Barry Bonds.

It's also not uncommon for coordinators and other coaches to call timeouts during NFL games. Keep in mind the ref is focused on a game, and when he hears "TIME-OUT! TIME-OUT! TIME-OUT!" being shouted into his ear he might not always be able to realize that it isn't the head coach that is calling the time-out. Thus why it is rather frequent for assistant coaches to call TOs.

I'll I know is it was the oddest football game I've ever seen. Being a fan of the PATS it was hard to watch
I can only imagine being a Baltimore fan.

Oh no we lost.....
Wait we have a chance....
Oh no we lost.....
Wait we have a chance....
Oh no we lost.....
Wait we have a chance....
We win!
Uh oh maybe we didn't win.....
Few we still won!
Huge lob to the 3 yard line
Oh no we are going to goto OT
0:00 seconds left ... We win!
I can't believe what I just saw (totally confused)

In most games you can hear the Qb's reads. Its nothing big- It's just a word that Brady would use that play to tell his receivers or line one of many possible things. He could have been signaling single coverage or a blitz or letting the receiver in motion know to get set because he's about to start the play. No one can really get anything out of it.

It's not like it matters... they lost the (likely) 32nd pick of the draft. They already have the Niners first rounder, which will be a top 10 pick. Pats come out with a net gain...
