To all teams and volunteers planning to attend the FTC Championship Tournament in Manchester, CT on Saturday:

We are watching the approach of Friday and Saturday's snowstorm. Our concern is for the safety of teams and event volunteers. Any decisions to delay or cancel the event will be made on our homepage: www.ctfirst.org/ftc_events

Team contacts: Please check your e-mail for more information.

It looks like the majority of the snow will happen on Friday with sleet taking over on Saturday morning. I know teams from Maine, New Jersey, and New York are making the trip and that wouldn't be optimal to those teams by cancelling the event.

Kathie, if it helps, we need to know before 4:30 am on Sat. That is when our kids are set to arrive at the meeting place before we drive down. Anything later & we're already on our way!

Re: [FTC]: FTC Champ Tournament - Connecticut

We are hoping not to cancel Saturday's event. We are hoping to have a delayed start as a worst case scenario. We will make that determination as soon as we are able to, given the weather conditions and predictions tomorrow.

Please check the website for updates.

From the website.

Due to the winter storm, we have decided to cancel all setup activities at Manchester High School originally scheduled for this evening.
We will operate under a 90 minute delay Saturday morning, allowing our volunteers and teams extra traveling time. We will make every effort to keep to our original event schedule beginning with Opening Ceremonies at 10:00 a.m.
Please use caution when traveling to Connecticut on Saturday.
Our event schedule for Saturday:
7:00 a.m. Doors will open for the planning committee and others who wish to help set up.
8:30 a.m. Doors will open for volunteers - our volunteer meeting will begin promptly at 8:40 a.m.!
9:00 a.m. Doors will open for teams. Inspections, Practice Rounds, and Judge Interviews will be compressed!
10:00 a.m. Opening Ceremonies

Good to know a delay is in effect.

Travel safe tomorrow morning everyone!

See you all there! :)

The pits are waiting for teams to arrive, the practice field is ready... the competition fields will be ready in the morning... we're psyched about this event! The snow has pretty much ended here with about 5 inches on the ground. Everyone take your time and travel slowly and we'll see you all tomorrow!

Take Kathie's advice to heart people!
I just got off the CT highways about a half hour ago, and there were still some cars who were spun out that I passed. :ahh:

Go slow, and give yourselves plenty of time!
If worse comes to worse, and you're late, we'll be able to accommodate you I'm sure.

See everyone in the morning, and have a safe drive above all!! :)

Would someone please throw a snowball at Kathie? You can tell her that Jane sent it. (Nicely, I nicely threw a snowball but missed at Kick Off, dang it.)

Good luck and take pictures!

Re: [FTC]: FTC Champ Tournament - Connecticut

A HUGE thank you to the 60 or so volunteers and 30 teams who braved the elements to come out to Manchester High School yesterday! And to all the teams who helped us out in the last few weeks preparing for the event! And my hats off to our awesome planning committee - we have met weekly since last August to make yesterday's event happen. Your dedication to the FTC program is outstanding.

We ran a bit late all day due to our delayed opening, so I know some of you didn't get home until the wee hours... but the competition turned out great (at least, from my standpoint)! You are all to be congratulated for your accomplishments over the last several months!

And the winners are:
FIRST Tech Challenge Championship Tournament Volunteer of the Year: Mike Betts
Amaze Award: Team 97 MURT, Mansfield, CT
Motivate Award: Team 40, Peligon, Windsor, CT
Innovate Award: Team 175, Checkmate, Manchester, NH
Think Award: Team 1, Unlimited, Sharon, MA
Connect Award: Team 6, Driven Nuts, Broomall, PA

The Finalist Alliance: Team 655, Rhode Rage, Middletown, RI; Team 6, Driven Nuts, Broomall, PA; Team 381, Rosie's Lil Sis, Agawam, MA

The Winning Alliance: Team 4, Driven Bolts, Brick, NJ; Team 175, Checkmate, Manchester, NH; 662, Brooklyn Mustangs, Brooklyn, NY

The Inspire Award: Team 4, Driven Bolts, Brick, NJ
