Let me know if it's working good...practice matches haven't quite started yet :]

Re: 2008 Boilermaker Regional

Friday night in Lafayette. We're having a blast at the Boilermaker regional! (Just got back from the laundromat with fresh team shirts for tomorrow. Our hotel has no laundry facility, but it does have an advantageous location, just a few steps from Krispy Kreme.)

The Armory at Purdue University is a special kind of venue. Space is tight -- but strangely that is a good thing. The walk from the stands to the pits, or to concessions, is very short. And the views of the field are all excellent. Not too many empty seats today, and by tomorrow afternoon there won't be any at all. Props to the planning committee for another great event, and to all of the outstanding volunteers who make it happen.

There are several strong teams in this field. Wildstang has only one loss, and 45/829/876 put up 100 points early in the afternoon, which was nearly topped by 292/1024/1501 in the day's last match. My team combined with 2040 and 2081 (solid hurdlers both) to lose that match 92-76, with each alliance taking 10 point in penalties. I believe that was the highest combined score here so far. Things will intensify on Saturday -- stay tuned.

Boilermaker Regional has been very exciting so far. Many matches have been close and penalties are still a big factor. 111, 292, 1024, 45, and 931 have the hurdling game down pretty well, there are others that I'm forgetting though. Everyone should keep their eyes glued to who ends up in the top spots, it's going to be a major factor on making the shutout alliance for this regional.

As far as 1646, we've been plagued with some bad luck. Mostly some very random bad battery issues and throwing a drive chain. Otherwise, our drive has been flying since we upgraded it Thursday and we've knocked down most of the balls we've attempted.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the feed is useless...
Not sure if its the REAL player (which is garbage) or something from the sites end. Would be nice to see at least a full ten seconds of the match without the screen freezing, re buffering, or distorting.

Why did they have to use Real Player format

The Kokomo Tribune has some wonderful coverage of the Howard County teams competing at the Boilermaker Regional.

There is a nice article and a really neat audio / slide show.

Good luck to all teams today.

The webcast was plenty hurting during alliance selection, but I got the alliance list:

(111,1024, 876)
(481,45,1397),
(292, 829,1397),
(234,2081,1501),
(1741,2081,1501),
(2197,1985,135),
(1000,447,201),
(2386,2040,231)

Okay all you webcasters... could someone PLEASE explain what the problem is/was with the Boiler Maker webcast... i.e was it a lack of bandwith, a server problem, or something with the Real Player...

And maybe someone would explain why they chose to use the Real Player format.

Mine was just horrible quality... like it was maybe 4 pixels lmao (exagrettion)

Great big high fives to teams 111, & 876 for winning the regional...
and double to 1024 for winning their second regional they have been to this year.
Guess that magic smoke does have some magic in it cause it sure seems to work for them!

Will Buckeye be the next to come under the spell of 1024's magic smoke?

Great job to all the folks that made the BMR so exciting... maybe next year someone will figure out a better webcast system.
(hint... ditch the real player format!)

I noticed one mistake in your listing of alliances:

(111,1024, 876)
(481,45,1397),
(292, 829,1397),
(234,2081,1501),

(2197,1985,135),
(1000,447,201),
(2386,2040,231)

Also congratulations to 111, 1024, and 876 for winning the regional and to 234 for winning the Chairman's Award

Hol-ee crap, FIRST fans. Boilermaker was intense! Once elimination matches started picking up, everyone got fired up. Congrats to 111, 1024, and 876. You guys gave us one of our greatest matches this year, even if I was just watching/cheering from the stands. Very, very good job guys. Again, my congratulations.

Also, you guys got our alliance wrong. It was 461, 45, and 1327.

Big shoutout to our alliance partners. You were great alliance partners both on and off the field, our combined sections gave 1024's army of support a run for their money. I can only think of hearing 'RED ALLIANCE' from 1024's section and screaming 'BLUE ALLIANCE!' at the top of my lungs to get our sections started. Of course, I'm hoarse now but it was totally worth it.

Also, I have to give props to the 931 for their hurdle/place. It was by far one of the most impressive things I've ever seen. Just incredible guys.

Congratulations to the winning alliance of 111, 1024, and 876! It was well deserved. :)

This was, once again, a fantastic competition. There were a variety of robots with an assortment of features and unique strategies. I look forward to seeing some of you in the future.

Holy Cow, that was CLOOOOSE!!!!!! :yikes: (wait, 45 said that already.)

Great job 1327,45,461.

45: Gripper go round? Still awesome. Wish you guys were going to another event... Awesome robot. (EDIT: They are going to more events. Nevermind!)

1327: I really wanted to see your guys robot go nuts and spin really fast in circles sometime this weekend (like it did at MWR) but apparently you guys fixed the problem. Ahh, well... :]

461: Nice conveyor foldy-thingy. Cool.

Awesome 876 and 111!

I was glad we could finally be allies rather than opponents, Wild Stang. It was a pleasure competing with you all and 876. We sure put out some exciting matches!

I'm sorry I couldn't get our autonomous fixed all the way... that fire at MWR must have been worse than I thought it was... :ahh:

Should have it ready for Cleveland.

1018: Thanks for your awesome Gracious Professionalism! Without your robot controller, our robot would have been in a box long before the finals. It was a pleasure to wear your hard hat! :D

Thanks everyone that made this a great BMR!

p.s. If anyone has any information about my laptop (I left it in the auditorium) please let me know! Thanks! :ahh:
