Plans for 2008?

So, team 1111 is already into its planning phase, with the Freshmen working feverishly away...
Do you all have any plans yet? We'd love to hear them.
WE will post with what we got when we get em.

We've got a few different ideas floating around, everything from forklifts to mecanum, etc

As usual we'll probably be a little secretive about things (we like making people think) with teasers ;)

I can tell you that we probably won't be defensive this year, due to the limitations.

We plan on figuring out the game and then coming up with strategies and types of ways to succeed at this years game. More on that later.

Yea it will be all offense given hat all you can do defensively is give a little push to let the other robots know your there

Ha, no point in being defensive this year, eh? Game is making us think like mad, like usual.
WE ARE SO EXCITED!

Yeah.

You can't obstruct, you can't push too hard, etc. I think it's a bit lame honestly, but it's making us think so I guess the GDC has won again.

Re: Plans for 2008?

How could you be defensive is the question.
I see no possible way in being a defensive robot,
if someone comes up with a way enlighten me.
I think this year you have to find some way to really propel these trackballs either by pneumatics or other ways.

Re: Plans for 2008?

Well what have we here... A freshman just finished up an idea for the hybrid phase...
-use hybrid commands
-knock ball off rack
-cross as many lines as possible
Hmnf... sounds alright... it seems like a good general idea for us. I'm sure most of you are thinking about the same thing. But what would make the perfect robot for this competition.
Actually, we have a question: Can you push other robots around? And if so, how far and hard?

Re: Plans for 2008?

Most likely, you can be aggresively, though briefly, defensive. No pinning probably (obstructing the flow of the course), but you can likely knock robots partially or entirely out of control as you come around the circle- just don't dwell on anyone for any long period, or act overtly violent.

Re: Plans for 2008?

I have a defense idea:
What if a defensive robot was designed to intercept/steal trackballs from the other alliance's robots and make it difficult for them to score with the balls?

Chipawa 05-01-2008 14:09

Re: Plans for 2008?

can you keep the other teams balls? That would be interesting...

*edit*
Nope, thats a penalty.

Jagdrive 05-01-2008 20:44

Re: Plans for 2008?

No stealing, however, if they are hearding the ball, it would be my guess that a speedy robot could "accidently" bump the ball out of other teams grasp.

Re: Plans for 2008?

You can knock the ball away. They can't score if they don't have it. At the very least you'll delay them from scoring more.

Mike Schreiber 05-01-2008 21:58

Re: Plans for 2008?

You CAN knock the ball away, but don't try it near their finish line, cause if you're touching it while it crosses it counts for them

As for us...you'll have to wait 'till kickoff MUHAHAHAHA

But we came up with the exact same idea for hybrid period, as I'm sure EVERYONE did:
Knock off balls + lap

Oops I gave away our secret game winning tactic...
