Why the rules have obvious problems

it works like this, no matter how many man hours they put into testing the rules and making them flawless Well, always find fault because
A were not the ones who wrote the rules, we see things they wouldn't
B ive spend 16 straight hours today picking apart these rules if every other first student did half of that.. our man hours who be theres ^9 or so, you just cant compete with the sheer number of man hours avalible to the general population
C We kids, there dumb adults. fill in the blanks (lol JK) <<<<<<<i was kidding Otaku
Thats my opinion. its the same way well always find glitches and cheats in video games, they cant compete with the time we put into it

The rules are usually flawed a day or two after kickoff. They release revisions upon inspecting them and probably reading CD. Also, there's no reason to call the GDC "Dumb adults". They're some of the most brilliant people I've ever heard of (and I've met a few, too).

I think he was using sarcasm.
I must admit there has been more complaining this year than any other year I can remember. Guess it's never to early to try to outdo last year's misery quota.

Welcome to FIRST, my friend. It only gets better...

FYI, no need to duplicate your posts in CD:
http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...1&postcount=27

I'll summarize my response: Fine-tuning the rules after they're released is just part of the process of improving the game before the competitions begin. There isn't an expectation of perfection by FIRST teams (though I'm sure the GDC has that as a goal). We work together in reviewing, dissecting, analyzing and critiquing the rules and scenarios to ultimately make the game experience better for the participants.

I used my statement twice, one as an answer to an question to help someone and a second time to clear it up for everyone else.

Re: Why the rules have obvious problems

What makes you think the rules have problems? Maybe they want you to take an intentional penalty to get your other balll down, or to knock the opponents ball down before the end. The thing that is confusing is that in the animation and the "human played game"(not sure what it's actually called) is that they are obviously showing the robots break the rules. Usually when they have a robot break the rules in one of those, they freeze the game and explain the penalty, however with the 6ft rule they didnt. It is possible that the rules are messed up, or it is possible that the people who ran those games just forgot about that rule, or didnt know about it. Even is it is not what they intended for and they did mess up on it, give them a break, it's not easy to create rules that in 1 day tens of thousands of people will be dissecting the rules, and they need to find the correct way to word it so teams cant "lawyer" the rules. I found a couple of loopholes, however I am not going to bring them up, because I completely agree with this statement
Quote:

When reading these Rules, please use
technical common sense (engineering thinking) rather than “lawyering” the interpretation and splitting
hairs over the precise wording in an attempt to find loopholes. Try to understand the reasoning behind
a rule.
If you can come up with an original solution for the problem that follows the rules go for it, but don't spend time finding ways around the rules. Odds are the GDC will close the loophole after hearing about it.
