Drivers What Are Your Opinions On Overdrive?

As the title stated, Drivers what do you think about overdrive?

As the robot driver (not manipulator), I think this game will be a bit easier to drive this year. There is less precision involved compared to previous years. The only things I see that will need precision is going to be the pickup up of trackballs, hurdling shouldn't be too tough, and driving in a circle isn't bad either. It's all going to be based on reaction and quickness of performing tasks this year.

As someone who raced 1/10 scale R/C cars competitively for a few years before getting involved in FIRST, racing is not something new to me (although I've only done an oval track once.. fun time). It depends greatly on how our robot ends up being designed, but I believe the fast pace will be a lot of fun and a new challenge.

Although the trackball is VERY bouncy and difficult to control, at first impressions. It will be interesting, to say the least.

I know what your saying. I've been dabbling in a bit of Auto crossing and Drifting as of late and I'm hoping I can use that to my advantage

In perfect truth, I don't like it right now, though this is with no matches having been played yet. So understand that all of my opinions may change after driving in an actual match of the game. Anyways, my opinion is that there isn't enough robot vs robot interaction to make it interesting. Last year was pretty good. You weren't, and shouldn't be, damaging the other robots but you got to get into some pushing and shoving matches which are just plain fun. It's more fun having robots go against, rather than alongside each other.

As an ex-driver, I think this is an awesome game. I love having a fast paced game, and I believe this will be one of those. This will have a lot of emphasis on driver skill at higher speeds then previous years, I hope. Along with going fast, they need to be able to control/pick up the track ball. It's a good game from the drivers standpoint.

as a driver in previous years i think this years degree of dificullty with driving is whether or not you are lifting the track balls and how you are deciding on making the turn

For me, it's a dream come true. I love racing ( any kind of racing really) and robots. In my opinion, this just saves me time. Only problem is we can't fit a Chevy small block in the bot. :yikes:

I say YAY for the high speed, track type game but I kind of don't like the scoring =/.

Like Kyle, I'm past my days as robot driver. I racked up 16 different competitions, driving/operating four different robots, over the time period 2004-2007. I saw a lot of matches, a lot of strategy.

From this previous experience, it definitely looks like this will be an amazing year for drivers. I guarantee it.

A good game for simple robots with good drivers!

It seems a lot easier than last years game. Last year you had to maneuver to place your tube, and I had some heavy defense being played on me. This year the hardest part will be to place the trackball on the overpass at the end or picking it up. Driving in circles is easy. :D

it looks intresting i dont know what i like better i liked last year having to be presice and the pushing and shoving matches lol also i really liked at the end of last years game getting back and setting up in time to deploy a ramp and lift it.
there isnt much of a end game task this year in my mind yeah we do have to put the balls up but that just dosent seem exciting but hey it will be a compition even if the actual game isnt all that fun the enviroment makes it good!

As someone who has raced RC cars on oval tracks, I can tell you now that for the driver, this will be the most intense year I've seen.

Things will happen much quicker for the drivers, and if they are not prepared you'll end up with needing a lot of repairs.

I believe that 2008 it truely the year of the driver
