Using ProE
Hello All,
I am posting here to offer advice to anyone using ProE. It is a very capable tool, especially at the assembly level, and I highly recommend that you try it. I have a lot of experience with it and would gladly offer advice to anyone having difficulty learning it. If anyone has any questions about learning ProE, post them here and I will address them as my time allows. -Erik |
Re: Using ProE
are you using wildfire 3.0
and if so have you used the original one before(plz compare ease of use) |
Re: Using ProE
I have been using ProE since version 2000i2 (prior to the Wildfire interface) and am currently using Wildfire 3 both at work and for school projects.
To answer your question about ease of use, the Wildfire interface, which centers around a feature called the dashboard, is very icon driven similar to Solidworks and Inventor and is much easier and more intuitive than the pre-wildfire versions. Just beware that PTC is still in the process of moving features to this new interface, so there are still some commands that still use the old cascading menu manager. I hope this answers your question. -Erik |
Re: Using ProE
I think pro/Engineer is better than Inventor and SolidWorks. I have tried all three. What do you think? Try the new Pro/E wildfire 4.0

Re: Using ProE
I have tried all three also. Inventor was a horrible experience. I like Solidworks because of the ease of use and it has my style of interface. ProE, from what i heard from the pink team, is the ultimate Cad program. I want to learn, but are there any tutorials for the newest version

Re: Using ProE
Pro-E also has the "best" licensing for school use. Once a teacher takes their course they have essentially unlimited (300 seats) access for use in their lab and for students to take home.
Although Solidworks and Inventor are pretty generous about letting students take the software home, and allowing TEAMS to use copies FOR THE ROBOT, those licenses specifically disallow using the software in a lab environment to teach a CAD class. This week we are hosting a workshop at our school and 20 BC teachers will become Pro-E certified! In preparation for the workshop I have been busy installing Pro-E Wildfire 3 on a couple dozen machines ranging from my own Core2Duo to old AMD 1200's running Vista, XP and Win2K. Pro-E seems to not only run on all those machines, but boots about five times faster than Inventor. I have only a couple hours of "play time" with Pro-E so far and I am liking the interface so far. One question, however... I am having difficulty with the "third button" on a scroll mouse... Pro-E doesn't seem to want to recognize the click of the scroll wheel as equivalent to pressing the middle button on a three button mouse. Since the pan and rotate functions are tied to the middle button, that is going to be a real pain in the butt. Any way to get around that? Can you configure it so f4+left click works like it does in Inventor? Thanks, Jason |

I'm getting a college email address soon. Anyone know where to get a free student copy? (like the ones AutoDesk and SolidWorks gives out) I've only ever used SolidWorks and Inventor. I honestly cant seem to find a major difference between them... The only reason why I'd say SolidWorks is better is because there are such great content libraries and free parts online. Inventor is not as well known, and its harder to find part files... |
Re: Using ProE
Yes. There is tutorial for the newest version wildfire 4:0. Your coach can get a free copy on CD from www.schroff.com. You may also purchase the CD for $39.00 from same website. Additionally, the free version will be available in PTC university website by next week (last of June 2008). Free 30 days trial of wildfire 4.0 is now available from PTC website.

Re: Using ProE
Jason,
The problem you have with the middle mouse button is usually fixed by downloading the latest drivers from the mouse manufacturer. Regards - Tim Brotherhood- PTC Education Programme Manager |
Re: Using ProE
Hello Erik,
Can you tell me how to assemble the chain assembly onto the wheel sprokets and toughbox sprocket? Hope to hear from you soon! |
Re: Using ProE
Hello Eric,
I would like to help me to conduct dynamic analysis in the robot model built in pro-e such as (1) to check the velocity at which if the robot hits an object it can tip off (2) to check the displacement when certain amount of force is applied to the robot Waiting for your support, Thanks and regards, Murthy |
